Anyway...

Red Balloons:

Normal-A Missile that fires straight.

1st Upgrade-A Homing Missile that acts like a red shell.

2nd Upgrade-10 Missiles

Blue Balloons:

Normal-Small Boost

1st Upgrade-Medium Boost

2nd Upgrade-Large Boost

Green Balloons:

Normal-Oil Slick

1st Upgrade-Land Mine

2nd Upgrade-A Bubble that traps an opponent for a few seconds.

Yellow Balloons:

Normal-5-Second Shield

1st Upgrade-10-Second Shield

2nd Upgrade-15-Second Shield

Rainbow Balloons:

Normal-Weak Magnet

1st Upgrade-Strong Magnet

2nd Upgrade-Even Stronger Magnet that pulls the closest opponent to you.

Other Things:

Bananas-Increase your max speed, your max speed will stop increasing when you reach 10, however.

Adventure Mode Levels:

Dino Domain
Snowflake Mountain
Sherbet Island
Dragon Forest

And 1 more level that is unlockable, you'll have to find it yourself!

I've never had a chance to play it but according to everyone I know who's played it this is a great game, save for the race with Wizpig.

at the time this game was made the game conkers was in was also in development, but it was originally supposed to be a light hearted kid-friendly game, but apparently they felt the need to make it more adult so it'd get more money

The original Diddy Kong Racing was my first game for N64. It introduced us to Banjo, Conker, Krunch (later used in some non-Rareware developed Nintendo titles like the Mario soccer games) and Tip Tup (minor character in the original Banjo-Kazooie). I absolutely loved this game! While most people brag about Mario Kart 64, I've always felt as though this was the superior game. The characters were all 3D models, the upgradable items system was ingenious, and the adventure mode made single player more satisfying.

The DS remake was a huge letdown. The added touch screen/microphone features were poorly implemented, Conker and Banjo were removed, the items upgrades worked in a worse way (Ex. Red Balloon--1 missile->5 missiles->Homing missile), the boss battles were changed in such a way that racing was no longer the focus, and the new voices for all the characters sucked.

I think that's because they were made by Rare, they lost the rights to them.
