I used to play it. Once I bought one of the god cards, and found out it was fake. Another time, I ripped a kid's fake Yugioh card.

I used to play, but then they released far too many cards, effects....

and most importantly banned half of the cards in the original starter deck, reducing my total legal cards to 35.

My friends and I would play this game at lunch until we were banned for no reason whatsoever.

*Sigh* And here we go again with another one of these "I HATE YOU BECAUSE YOU LIKE [X]" moments :/

I used to play, but then they released far too many cards, effects....
Everyone pretty much "moves on" and uses newer cards from the more recent series.
...Not really that hard to keep up with it.
Or just build a deck using [archetype X], and then include all the support cards for said archetype.

and most importantly banned half of the cards in the original starter deck, reducing my total legal cards to 35.
Because competitively, a lot of those cards just promote a coin-flip metagame. By that, I mean whoever wins the coin flip to go first will pretty much win on turn 1, without the other player getting a turn. Ergo, they are bad for the game.
J has to hold back his semi-competitive attitude towards this game, and remember that Tradiational(all B& cards are limited to 1) and casual(dueling with friends/there is no list) formats still exist. The game can still be "fun" with the previously mentioned formats, provided, its mostly for Gits and Shiggles.

Oh, I suppose my issue mostly would effect someone that doesn't have a lot of money to shove into card games.

Back when YuGiOh first started, I bought The Kaiba starter deck, and 10 booster packs.

That is all I ever had, unless I could trade up for better cards. My problem began and started with cards that to this day felt irrational to ban.

I understood some cards, like Mirror Force and swords of impenetrable force [not to be mistook for SORL].

...but Monster Reborn?
...Labyrinth Wall?
...The Dark Witch?

Its when they started banning very situational cards that I stopped playing, especially when they released Monster Reincarnation, and it does the same thing as the now banned Monster Reborn. I don't have the money to replace my cards just because they decided certain cards we too effective with newer cards they released.

With that being said, I still got All 5 pieces of Exodia, and a real Slypher the Sky Dragon...those will be worth a lot in the future. I heard Dark Magician Girls limited edition holographic card is gonna be worth a lot too. I suppose YuGiOh wasn't all bad.

Kujii, you know the banlists are never set in stone, and are only subject to change every now and then. And if you notice, not every card on said list is situational. All of them either win you the game without any effort, or just net you too much advantage from a single card and/or lack enough restrictions to have them be deemed "fair". The current metagame is all about card advantage, and not just LPs anymore. (Aside from casual format)
Labrynth Wall and Dark Witch were never banned to begin with.

.....What the heck kind of card is Swords of Impregnible Force anyway?

hang on, lemme find it, I'm prolly calling it the wrong name on accident.

I'm not talking of the Swords of Revealing light though.

EDIT: I recall its effect is something like -900 attack, but can attack twice per battle phase. I'd just have to find it.

EDIT: Yeah, my naming abilities were way off, I found the card in my old deck.

http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Twin_Swords_of_Flashing_Light_-_Tryce

Also, when you mentioned that labyrinth wall wasn't a banned card, that sorta got me curiouse about what else might not have been banned I was using. I never went to the official site info on this, I just read the printout everyone was following.

_______
_______

On another note...reading this cards effect, does anyone feel its a little redundant? it doesn't make sense to me, since reducing lifepoints to 0 is a win under almost all circumstances anyway.

If your relying on your friends to print out a custom made Ban-list, then your just asking for it.
Chances are, the don't understand "balance".

Victory Dragon lets you win the match.
In official tournaments they use matches(like best 2 out of 3)
So if you win via Victory Dragon/[generic match winner], you basically insta-win that whole match.

Traded a couple of Gladiator beast fusions for Plaguespreader Zombie and Thunder King Rai-Oh. Easily my profit there, especially as the person I traded them to doesn't know a thing about Gladiator beast decks. Never mind the effects, spam double tag team and get Gyzarus or Heraklinos then laugh as they have no way to actually do anything.

@Kujii: You know, there have been quite a few reprints of existing "good" cards every now-and-then.
Like if you get a few copies of that Merik structure deck(which has a common Mirror Force, by the way) and like 1-3 copies of Gravekeeper's Recruiter, you could build yourself a pretty decent Gravekeeper.dek for a low budget.

GBs are hilarious.

People I've met never understand that GBs are in effect super heavy fusion decks that are super easy to re-use and spam. If you have lost a fusion material monster you can get it back with Darius or something, and cards like Gyzarus can be combo'd with double tag team to destroy four cards on the opponents side of the field as you summon it twice. I use to run a GB deck, and it was my second most effective deck, and THE most effective back when Syncros didn't exist.

Despite the fact nobody will really care....
For some reason I felt like posting my IRL here:
Its a casual/semi-competitive Scraps.dek
....And includes a bit of field control just for laughs.

Billy was a Character from Yu-Gi-Oh Season 1, he only used zombies.

IIRC, I might be wrong.

You mean Bones, the kid who could only say "Zug zug" during his duel with Yugi in Y:TAS?

As for myself, I do a few cards from yesteryear, about 20-30 in total. Pokemon, on the other hand...
