Title: Anyone play Yugioh?
Post by: J on March 27, 2011, 11:55:23 AM
^Subject^
Whether it be on a handheld game(computer games also count) or IRL, I'm addicted to this game.
IRL, I run Scraps.
In anything else, I run what-ever I find "fun".

So yea... Anyone else play Yugimonz?

Stairway to the destined duel is a awesome game.
I also play KCVDS with my friend sometimes.

Aaaah, Yugioh makes me nostalgia almost as hard as pokemon.
I got the 360 arcade game actually, and played a couple of times on that with a few of my mates, but haven't even played that for ages.
I did have the championship ds game downloaded though, and that was ace.

I quit around the time they introduced the Pharonic Guardian set.  I realized that I was just not very good at deck building, and all my friends had better cards than me.  Aside from the occasional Yata Garasu lock, I never won.

I don't play Yugioh, I play www.elementsthegame.com (http://www.elementsthegame.com) . It's like Yugioh, except it's based on elements, doesn't have ridiculously overpowered cards, and is actually considered cool.

I currently run Zombies and an Anti-Special summon deck. A-SS (lol) has won me third place and 3 victories against a top 1000 in country person, who beat the No. 17 in the country twice.

You could always ask me for help and stuff, as I'm pretty good at deckbuilding.
Provided... your willing to spend a bit on this game. (Budget decks are also acceptable)

I currently run Zombies
Zombies were better when we still had Card of Safe Return D:
Though they are still fun with stuff like Mezuki and what-not.

and an Anti-Special summon deck.

Well, it's really an anti syncro deck. It has stuff like Kaiser Colosseum, King Tiger Wanghu and a few others. It also works as a pure staller and Beatdown, with loads of undestroyable by battle monesters and some heavy attackers like Ancient Gear Golem (kinda obvious choice). It is very, very good as my decks go.
I also own Remove from Play deck, only it's actually intelligent and uses loads of deck destruction too. Have a Batterman deck too. C is very good combined with DNA surgery as if you use Micro Cell and Inferno Reckless summon you can have 3 4500 atk point monsters.

I have a custom Yugioh thread around here somewhere...

Also, Yes, I play the game (rofl at whoever posts a raegtoon). My deck is all old-school like, no 5DS monsters here. Duel my friends all the time.

ALSO I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY ADDED A NEW MONSTER TYPE THEY WERE FINE WITHOUT PSYCHIC

Funny that a lot of Tuners get insta-death from Wanghu

My Scrap-town Keepers.dek is loaded with monster removal :D

I hate to ruin your fun, but C doesn't work that way anymore (http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Card_Rulings:Batteryman_C).
That was BEFORE they issued a ruling on it.
No really, I used to main Cs in my Batteryman.dek, but I removed them shortly after I "learned more" about it. :/

J isnt one of those 'haters' who hates on people if they prefer to run their decks in a weird way.
...Though I do prefer it if the deck is more consist and can help you achieve what-ever crazy shenanigans you are working towards.

Aqua, Fish, and Seaserpent werent redundant enough for you?
Also, Mind Master is a very lulz card with at least 2 F/OTKs with it.

I used to play, but then they released far too many cards, effects....

and most importantly banned half of the cards in the original starter deck, reducing my total legal cards to 35.

*Sigh* And here we go again with another one of these "I HATE YOU BECAUSE YOU LIKE [X]" moments :/

I used to play, but then they released far too many cards, effects....
Everyone pretty much "moves on" and uses newer cards from the more recent series.
...Not really that hard to keep up with it.
Or just build a deck using [archetype X], and then include all the support cards for said archetype.

and most importantly banned half of the cards in the original starter deck, reducing my total legal cards to 35.
Because competitively, a lot of those cards just promote a coin-flip metagame. By that, I mean whoever wins the coin flip to go first will pretty much win on turn 1, without the other player getting a turn. Ergo, they are bad for the game.
J has to hold back his semi-competitive attitude towards this game, and remember that Tradiational(all B& cards are limited to 1) and casual(dueling with friends/there is no list) formats still exist. The game can still be "fun" with the previously mentioned formats, provided, its mostly for Gits and Shiggles.

Oh, I suppose my issue mostly would effect someone that doesn't have a lot of money to shove into card games.

Back when YuGiOh first started, I bought The Kaiba starter deck, and 10 booster packs.

That is all I ever had, unless I could trade up for better cards. My problem began and started with cards that to this day felt irrational to ban.

I understood some cards, like Mirror Force and swords of impenetrable force [not to be mistook for SORL].

...but Monster Reborn?
...Labyrinth Wall?
...The Dark Witch?

Its when they started banning very situational cards that I stopped playing, especially when they released Monster Reincarnation, and it does the same thing as the now banned Monster Reborn. I don't have the money to replace my cards just because they decided certain cards we too effective with newer cards they released.

With that being said, I still got All 5 pieces of Exodia, and a real Slypher the Sky Dragon...those will be worth a lot in the future. I heard Dark Magician Girls limited edition holographic card is gonna be worth a lot too. I suppose YuGiOh wasn't all bad.

Kujii, you know the banlists are never set in stone (http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Banlist), and are only subject to change every now and then. And if you notice, not every card on said list is situational. All of them either win you the game without any effort, or just net you too much advantage from a single card and/or lack enough restrictions to have them be deemed "fair". The current metagame is all about card advantage, and not just LPs anymore. (Aside from casual format)
Labrynth Wall and Dark Witch were never banned to begin with.

.....What the heck kind of card is Swords of Impregnible Force (http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/index.php?search=swords+of+impregnible+force&fulltext=0) anyway?
Title: Re: Anyone play Yugioh?
Post by: Kujii on March 27, 2011, 10:23:24 PM
hang on, lemme find it, I'm prolly calling it the wrong name on accident.

I'm not talking of the Swords of Revealing light though.

EDIT: I recall its effect is something like -900 attack, but can attack twice per battle phase. I'd just have to find it.

EDIT: Yeah, my naming abilities were way off, I found the card in my old deck.

http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Twin_Swords_of_Flashing_Light_-_Tryce (http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Twin_Swords_of_Flashing_Light_-_Tryce)

Also, when you mentioned that labyrinth wall wasn't a banned card, that sorta got me curiouse about what else might not have been banned I was using. I never went to the official site info on this, I just read the printout everyone was following.

_______
_______

On another note...reading this cards effect, does anyone feel its a little redundant? it doesn't make sense to me, since reducing lifepoints to 0 is a win under almost all circumstances anyway.

If your relying on your friends to print out a custom made Ban-list, then your just asking for it.
Chances are, the don't understand "balance".

Victory Dragon lets you win the match.
In official tournaments they use matches(like best 2 out of 3)
So if you win via Victory Dragon/[generic match winner], you basically insta-win that whole match.

Traded a couple of Gladiator beast fusions for Plaguespreader Zombie and Thunder King Rai-Oh. Easily my profit there, especially as the person I traded them to doesn't know a thing about Gladiator beast decks. Never mind the effects, spam double tag team and get Gyzarus or Heraklinos then laugh as they have no way to actually do anything.
Title: Re: Anyone play Yugioh?
Post by: J on March 28, 2011, 01:22:56 PM
@Kujii: You know, there have been quite a few reprints of existing "good" cards every now-and-then.
Like if you get a few copies of that Merik structure deck(which has a common Mirror Force, by the way) and like 1-3 copies of Gravekeeper's Recruiter, you could build yourself a pretty decent Gravekeeper.dek for a low budget.

People I've met never understand that GBs are in effect super heavy fusion decks that are super easy to re-use and spam. If you have lost a fusion material monster you can get it back with Darius or something, and cards like Gyzarus can be combo'd with double tag team to destroy four cards on the opponents side of the field as you summon it twice. I use to run a GB deck, and it was my second most effective deck, and THE most effective back when Syncros didn't exist.

Guys... A Billy Deck (http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Billy_Deck) is a deck that uses a "fun" theme.
"Cards that look evil and/or are just evil in general", as Preytor said, would be classified as a Billy.dek
