Vertigo's DSL Showcase!
« on: May 16, 2010, 02:56:38 PM »
Hi, I'm new to the forums, but have been playing RA2 fo atleast 2 years now & DSL for a good 6 months, so I deciced to start a showcase.

Titanium 3, about 398kg (I think), 7 ant batts, npc fasts, growler wheels not because of weight issues, but because I feel that it is too fast with hypnos.
No decent name yet, if you have any suggestions, then feel free to post them!

Any comments, advise or critism appriciated!

 :welcome

As Reier pointed out, your username is kinda already taken, but welcome nonetheless!

Despite what you say about the wheels, it would be better with Hypnos, and you can take away one ant battery from this.

Your weapon extender work is also heavy (I would just use two polycarbonate or aluminum extenders), and the wedges would be better if you use metal hinges.  I also find 5mm plastic better than 3mm titanium.

Aren't the growler wheels a cheatbot2 part?

Also, Those flais might be a problem when an opponent gets caught by the wedge (If its good enough)
THey might just bounce off before you manage to hit them :P

and you can take away one ant battery from this.

Personally, I prefer overpowering Popups so they manage to stay at Max Power for alot of hits, Also< You cant do much with 6.5 KGs...
Sometimes you can upgrade from Tit x5 to Plastic x10 or something like that (27kgs for Plastic & 25kgs For Tit armour)

Overpowering popups is always good (Dont go ub3r overkilling it though xP)

Hey vertigo #2! XD anyway, the bot isn't bad but needs hypno wheels and metal hinges instead of axle wedges. And Get NAR AI, you look like a good enough builder for it.

Thank you for the helpful post.

Anyways, on the bot - listen to Pwn and Ounce, they know what they're talking about 99% of the time, and also these extenders are exposed.

And 6 ants is fine for 2 BSGs and 2 drive motors. You can add one, but it's not necessary.

Wow, this has got a lot of replies, thanks!
First of all, can I say sorry about the username thing, honestly, I had no idea.
I'll try hypnos, didn't know that growler wheels were cheatbot 2 parts.
I don't really want to remove an ant, as I've read in alot of places that it is good to overpower popups.
Ounce, I don't understand how my extender work can be lighter but if you'd like to explain that a bit further it would be great. :P
I don't really want to decrease the armour, as I like my robots to take a few hits from lock nut!
The wedges are actually pretty good, gets under all of DSL AI (apart from slashback) & I don't know where I'd find weight for skirt hinges (I know they would be better).
I'll try NAR AI, am I really good enough for it?
FOTEPX - Thanks for the compliment :P
Axle wedges are exposed, I know, but they stand up to damage pretty well, how are any other extenders exposed?
I'll post improved robot soon.

Right, here is the updated version:

Now with hypno's, tried to downgrade the small wedges to 40cm angled titanium skirts but the small wedges seem to protect the axle wedges & without them they fell off easily, & with new wheel guards!
However, now only 6 ant batts & armour is now only plastic 5.  :(

New robot, bigger version of the other:

Inertia, very good wedge, lots of ants, fast, titanium 5 I think & the small jx burst is to aid self righting.
Can out-wedge second sentinel all the time

Both robots would do much better AI-d but I don't know how!
I've read the tutorial but I don't understand the bit about noses (might be nose cones, I dunno)

I've not had any ssuggestions for naming the middle weight, (to show how bad I am at naming it is currently called Scraper v6.0)  ::badidea
So any name suggestions would be really apprieciated!
Thanks once again for all the critism so far, keep it coming.

The side armor on the HW isn't doing much.

Also change the Mag Snappers to BSGs (they're better), and you really should tweak it so you don't need the JX for self-righting. Any popup should just self-right with it's weapons rather than having a separate srimech (wastes a lot of weight)

Pretty good though :D
