Woah, lots of rapid feedback tonight! Thanks everyone! :)

Looking fairly decent, though how good are the wedges on those flipper bots? I'm skeptical.

. They do the trick IMO!

The angle of the bot thanks to the large wheels means that it only has four points of contact, two of which are the tips of the wedges. Seems to get under everything I throw at it!

I'm still skeptical, but hey, as long as you're confident in your building, maybe you might be a winner of BOTM sometime ;)

I have my suspicions that you'll all be getting bored of my flippers by now, but I do love OOTA-style finishers so very much.

This is the latest pure flipper I have come up with - a full-body flipper I called "Wheely Cheesy Idea". Inspiration should be obvious!

Twin medium burst pistons mounted aft of the battery box spread two 240mm-long flipping arms apart to a total distance of just under 4 meters. Whichever arm happens to be pointing downwards levers against the arena floor, augmenting the lifting action of the top-mounted flipper - this leads to some pretty spectacular throws for a bot that is only drawing 200 amps to power it's arms!

Twin TWMR2s also provide excellent drive and maneuverability, meaning that unless in a boxed-in arena, this bot is extremely dangerous.

This is also one of the lightest heavyweights I've entered into competition, purely because a large part of one of the flipping arms also has to lift the robot's own weight. This means I've kept the weight down to around 550 units, hence wide use of aluminium in the extender work!

Fun fact: This entire robot is built off a single extender at the rear of the chassis.

I was having a tough time getting them to upload - imgur is quite unstable tonight (possibly hasn't served you the images due to this). They are definitely up so maybe try refreshing without cache? :)

Have you tried using the GTM image host?

GTM image host is really nice, but it doesn't like the standard picture formatting. I would recommend using it.

Hi folks!

I put together this bot a little while ago but I thought I'd show it off today. Hazard Ahead is (in my opinion) a somewhat innovative concept for flipper bots - it is what I call a ground-reaction flipper.

Rather than driving at the enemy with a wedge and scooping them up on to the bot's body, this robot inverts itself at the start of the fight via aggressive acceleration, followed by a swift ram underneath the opponent to establish an overlap. The titanium flipper arms themselves are powered by THREE large R/P burst pistons, producing what I consider to be the most powerful flipping action possible in a heavyweight bot in DSL3. To give you some perspective, this robot is capable of an out-of-the-arena finish from any position in the Robot Wars arena. It is utterly devastating.

Usually in a multi-piston flipper bot the arms lack synchronisation, which means only one piston ever delivers its total "true" power - additionally, if the opponent is not over every lifting/flipping arm, it will not receive the full force of the robot's lifters combined. By lifting the entire robot body, this design circumvents that limitation.

I do play this game in multiplayer with friends quite often, and now nobody will fight this robot due to its insane ability to control the fight. An overlap of only one or two centimeters is enough to send a heavyweight robot into multiple rolls thanks to the unbelievable leverage behind the flipping action of this robot.

It's a cool idea, especially with the turning itself over, however I see a few things that could cause problems.
1) Super exposed chassis - flipper arms usually also provide a small amount of extra protection to the chassis.
2) Lack of wedginess. Anything with a wedge (eg snapper wedge, skirt hinge wedge or metal hinge wedge) will likely go straight in under this.
3) You're lifting your chassis. Sounds dumb but because you're lifting the mass of your chassis the bursts are wasting energy lifting it as well as your opponent.
