downgrade to 2WD. It's way too fast right now.

I hate what Sheck Spinners have been reduced to in IRL building. At least give it some decent no-normals weapons.
One problem, mate. This is IRL, not efficiency building. These components look most like what you'd find on real life shell spinners, and so, that's what's best, right? I know the normals are a massive pain in the behind, but this isn't standard DSL building. R0b0 said it best, it's not for the purpose of battle.

Then what's the point? Most IRL Sheck Spinners looks ugly and boring, and when you try to build them using DSL components they become even more ugly and boring aesthetically. And then when you put on crappy weapons to further emulate IRL Sheck Spinners, you are left with an ugly, boring, and useless bot. How is that enjoyable to build or showcase? I know IRL building isn't about combat effectiveness, but Sheck Spinners- in real life or in game- are supposed to maximize destruction. When you rob Sheck Spinners of their ferocity, you have killed them...
Any comments would be appreciated. :D

>smashysmashy demands the opinion of people, whatever it is
>i and urjak give our opinions
>smashysmashy then proceeds to complain about something he asked for

Though it is true i could have been more constructive... well it's generic as far as IRL SS go, the design has been done many times, it has bad, too few and overused (in IRL) weapons, and it has a very unefficient drive.

A NEWB ! GIVING ME ADVICE ! GET BACK IN YOUR PEN, WEAKLING !

[/Naryar Mode]

That's bullsh**. As I remember, I NEVER have blamed a newbie for giving advice on the only fact that he is a newbie. I only judge and criticize newbie advice on the quality of their advice. If I have ever done the former, then I judged unfairly and I am ready to make excuses.

By the way, i'm going to judge the advice Unreal posted right now.

if theres room to make the chassis a bit smaller and lower maybe you could do that

Yes he can, good advice right here.

and maybe add more spinner segments to protect it.

Nonsense, nobody wastes weight on adding several layers of spinner panels on SS. Only side armor a shell spinner is more weapons on just one layer of spinner panels.

From what I've been told maybe it needs more battery power

It is correctly powered, and has one more ant battery than strictly necessary. But yet again, it shouldn't use 4WD.

also perhaps you could put the control unit somewhere along the central axis to keep the weight balance perfect.

I have no clear idea if control boards really affect the weight balance but that's what I would do as well.

So...

How about I just don't bother? All I build seems to be sh** anyway.

You'll be far more respected and useful if you build interesting bots/give good advice or ideas or feedback/make things for the community.

And giving up won't improve things.

Build bots, fight bots, and evolve by both means. That's what playing RA2 means to me, at last.

For an IRL design, I don't think it looks too bad, actually. Reminds me of Spin Doctor from RW Series 2.

Yeah, great. But not easy when you have hardly any skills and behavioural problems.

Build Interesting Bots: That what I've been trying to do, not working.
Give Good Advice: With what lacking information I know, nope.
Ideas: I have the creativity of a retarded monkey.
Make Things For Community: No paint skills and can't code or AI worth crap.

I am the best GTM member ever.

Welcome to my world smashy, but its not really about what other people think, you should build what YOU like. Believe me it makes it allot easier if you don't really give a rats ass what other people think. If someone gives you advice that you think is good, then great, but an opinion is only worth something if you agree with the argument behind it. Else its worth squat.

If something is stopping you enjoying RA2 then you need to deal with/avoid whatever it is, because despite its many many many faults RA2 is one of the best games ever made, and its a great gift to be able to use a game like this whatever you want to do with it.

...Or to put it more simply, don't let the b*ggers grind ya down :D

I'MMA BACK AND NOT DOING IRL

You heard me right. I thought I'd do some 'normal' building. After a random convo with Craaig on skype, I thought I'd also make a VS. (It wasn't mentioned by him that I should make one, but his sheer awesomeness compelled me to.)

Titanium 1, 4 ants, and yes, the chassis needs trimming (I might do that tomorrow after school) and it may or may not be a ripoff of another weapon system, my knowledge isn't extensive enough to know. NPC normals, I may use the extra weight saved after trimming the chassis to use fasts, or an armour upgrade. Maybe both.

I like it. Depends on how damaging it is, really. I'd personally stick with Normals, if you go too quickly, you'll kick yourself over on a big hit. I'd also swap the DSL bars for 80cm or 120cm skirts if that was possible, then perhaps upgrade the armour with the weight saved.

It is quite damaging. I don't have NarAI just yet but it defeated Tempest (although I admit, only just).

So, skirts are better? That's news to me, thanks. Which are probably the best skirts in this case (or which have the best hp/weight, titanium?)

It depends on the length. For some reason, all the skirts of the same material have the same HP. So a 40cm Titanium skirt has a much better HP/weight ratio than a 120cm Angled Titanium skirt. An 80cm Titanium skirt is what I'd go for, it's the best compromise between stability, weight and strength.

But yes, what NFX said. I'd use the skirts, and not upgrade drive.. gets a little too much having fasts on a mw vs, I find.

That's very helpful and informative. Thanks NFX.

And so using these skirts and trimming up the chassis, I'll probably have weight for tite 3? I'm not sure. But it sure looks like that will get much better tomorrow, and then yay NarAI time! ;D

Haha =3 and thanks for backing the info up.

Oh and its a bit late but thanks unreal for that, you helped me realise that I was building bots and losing the fun. RA2 nows seems much less of a chore, thanks :)

Not bad, as NFX said, skirts are the best for stabilizers on spinners (more stable and less weight).
If I were you, I'd try a different weapon set up, with a VS, it helps to have a larger weapon surface area to add to the "puntability" of the weaponry.
Give hex plates and razorz a go.

On an E TEK? There won't be enough reach. Or am I missing something?

I would put more weapons on there and use a less powerful motor really
