12wd... wat

Also do frequency rammers work with ant blades ? Ant blades are absolutely terrible statwise.

The whole shape of the bot was inspired by the sort of appearence of F1 cars, so naturally I wanted to make it fast. That said, 10 of the drive motors are slimbodies so it isn't really that quick. :P

The rams work surprisingly well, although still quite badly. That and I've only really been testing it against my AI'd LWs from 4 years ago :P

2 YEAR BUMP YAY

I'm getting more into IRL building these days. Here's something I made today.

(Image removed from quote.)

Tuning Fork was designed for the looks, but has ended up being quite a competent frequency rammer as well. 12-wheel drive.
Careful about bumping your own thread Kappa
All kidding aside it looks fantastic, it looks like a shark with those 2 Ripping teeth at the back and the wheels poking out the front wedge, I do worry about the ant discs effectiveness though. However since it is IRL it should not really matter, what does matter is that it is terribly underweight for a Heavyweight.
Let me tell you something I learned through life... The weakest link in the chain isn't always the failure point.

You think you could use some of that extra weight you have left and maybe give it at least a skin of something that would look like an F1 car as you stated before? I feel like that's more so nitpicking that offering advice. Still, I like what I am seeing.

Literally can't use the weight anywhere on the insides, unless I gave it like Steel 10 or something.

I'll work on the skin.

20 of the drive motors are slimbodies ? is it a typo or did you actually use chained drive ?

So I tried building something DSL-s that wasn't a flipper today for the first time in maybe 2 years. Heavily inspired by Ripper of Guts, the sawblade VS Somebody won BTTB 2 with. However, the design is quite glass-cannon-y, as the discs are easily knocked off. I've decided to experiment on the other end of the spectrum with durable weapons, and so created this:

Mini wheels because a) they're small, and b) they're not too grippy.

Initial testing had me take ages to hurt bots, though the weapons' durability did mean they tend to outlast quite a few other bots'. This makes me think the bot isn't damaging enough, but I'm not sure if this means change weapons or look for a better way to make sure I hit vulnerable parts of opponents... thoughts?

What's up with the random beater bar on the extender?
But yeah potter's wheels are poop for damage, I would just drop it to 2wd with NPCF + techno and use 3 Perm 80s for more weapons but Perm 80s have terrible HP which wouldn't help the durability at all.

The extenders got knocked off a couple of times during testing, so they're there for protection. Prolly a waste of weight though, I admit.

I'll investigate 2wd for sure, that would also make it less of a total knockoff of Somebody's bot.

Or you can just change the extender to a beater bar...

Can it actually lift and throw with Potter wheels? That was one of Ripper of Guts' best assets was that the opponent never spent too much time on the ground through the match.
I built that big robot on that TV show that time

It throws a bit, but I probably should look into ways of making it do it more.

I had a really productive RA2 day today, I've built like 10 bots. But as I've spammed the forums enough with all the BTTB stuff I'll just post my DSL things.

Firstly, I redid the back and skin of my IRL SHW, and did a funny with the name. Up to the w/l.

Made what was meant to be an IRL MW but ended up being a HW, a bot I call Steel Shark:

And then there's this bot. I was inspired by my very first BOTM entry, back in January 2010, that I found today, and also Tentomushi. It's coincedental that Somnium posted something that isn't totally dissimilar today in his Stock Showcase.

The idea is that I drive over the top of other bots like a Flying Guillotine, then use the servo pistons to bring the weapons down on the opponent. Other than the fact that it simply isn't very efficient, there are 3 major problems with it.

1 - The legs are not tall enough.
2 - The servo pistons cannot physically lift the bot back up once it comes down. I've tried actuators and burst pistons but both are worse - the actuators' axles just glitch out so I can't use it, and the burst pistons are too powerful - the bot just flies away like that thing Stagfish entered into Clash of the Titans
3 - And even if the other things weren't problems, this is. :(

Still, it's always nice to build something new.

False Blackjack is pretty cool, I like the front grill design a lot, as well as the use of the lightning spikes. Skin is maybe a little dull, but otherwise I like it.

Steel Shark is kinda ridiculous, in a good way. I think the maces on the wheels are unnecessary, but that's really all I don't like about it.

On the flying guillotine bot, would making the pistons point downwards, rather than use the extenders coming from the top and down, make any difference to its ability to lift itself?

-Thanks. Skinning is something I really struggle with, have you got any pointers?

-The maces make it actually be able to drive :P

-My choice of photo is not the best - that is the bot after it has fired. If the pistons were pointed the other way they would be lifting the chassis up and it would have to start low down. I hope I've explained that alright.

Uh, how? If it's a weight thing, to drag the wheel down, you could use a large beater bar or something so it looks sleeker. Looks cool though, however the random spam of teeth on the flipper(?) looks weird imo.

I was in the process of writing a tutorial before I went on holiday for a bit, so I'll try and scrape that together into something readable and PM it to you, if that works for you.
