Drgnslyr's DSL Showcase
« on: September 07, 2010, 05:46:05 AM »
Hey, Im new here, and to RA2 and DSL, so I hope some of these arent too stupid, just please bear in mind that im just trying out building things other than rammer/pokers, or hammer bots, so these will probably look quite generic/boring untill I get a bit better.

Ive forgotten to take screenies, so ill add them in my next post.

'Tis fine, most newcomers do build generic bots for a while and then develop their own style when skilled enough (or do not and end up as clone builders)

Looking forward to what you can build !

Welcome to the forums, dude. ;)

Looking forward to what you come up with. =] You'll probably want to take some of the more experienced members' advice on board, the people with coloured usernames tend to get it right most often, and your bots should start getting better. =D

Welcome to GTM, man. Don't piss anyone off with a coloured name and listen to the advice we give you and you should be fine. How old are you, just so we know what we're dealing with?

I'm not terribly sure age is as important as how he acts. Stagfish is younger than Sparkey, IIRC, which I probably don't.

There's no need to reveal your age. Act as mature as you feel you should.

This is currently my only purely mine bot, a lot of the rest are based off of bots in AI packs, with things modified.

apparently the upload wont let me upload the standard screenshot format, and i dont have any decent editing software that doesnt take half an hour to load, other than paint (although I did say decent)

And for the record, im 21 in december.

If you upload it into Paint, you can just crop the image around the bot (we all know what the bot lab looks like ;) and save it as a .PNG format. Then you should be able to upload it.

Screenshot looks to dark to see anything and no one here likes bmp files. (I don't know why though) Everyone here likes png pictures.

.bmp files take up much more memory than .PNG files, as they save each pixel's attributes individually. I think .PNG files try and find clumps of pixels with the same colour, and then save them together, though I'm not entirely sure. But .PNGs give you .bmp quality for much less memory space, normally.

Right, heres a better image of KaotiKa

Thats the geared version of the beta, btw, hence the disc, didnt think to save weight by mounting the rod via is perpendicular mounting point....

just fyi, i tend to use that paint scheme on all my bots, its a base black, with blood red edges, and HnV crud&scratches, with a "Kill" Decal near the front/around the weapon.

I like it, its simple, yet not just plain solid-coloured...

Yeah, ill post the insides in a little bit, its nowt special, probably over-bat'd, but its got some ballast in the front to keep it down when the weapon swings...
