Why all the complicated crap?
« on: September 15, 2008, 09:28:18 PM »
I've been playing RA2 on and off since it came out.  I'm wondering why every bot has to be so damn complicated nowadays, with all the stacking and crap.  Why can't they be simple, and realistic looking?

dsl is for you. stock ra2 is now, what, 5-7 years old? you should be happy its still going on. stacking is part of the game now. the glitches are awesome.

if you want realism, go for DSL.
You got my vote for RA2 Wizard. Always and forever.

get the CD version of DSL. It will work with the torrent thingy.

stacking is innovation. If everyone thought like you we would all be outside playing with sticks.

I agree with Sage, DSL users have been able to make bots that could be made in real life, and a lot of them work very well.

I've downloaded DSL, and it crashes on me quite a few time, when selecting certain components.

Getting DSL was a PitA, but it's really worth it. Especially if you like realistic bots.

If you got a torrented version of RA2 like me, get the download version of DSL, I think.

It crashes occasionally, or lags, but otherwise works fine.

EDIT: Did you remove the "read only" of all of your RA2 files/folders? It helped for me.

Go to your DSL folder and delete the Components.cfz (be sure to save it incase you need to put it back)

Alright, I removed the cfz, and it didn't give me any control boards, so I had to re-instate it.

Oh, and excuse my ignorance, but what are the Read-Only files?

Ahem.

Read-Only is an option that you can generally tag/untag in the Properties window (in the right click menu)

Read only files are files that can just be read/used by your computer, but not modified.

A lot of RA2 files are read only, including the Components and AI folders.

UH-OH.........I sense an incorrect installation, just like the one guy who argued with us that extracting directly to the folder is the same thing.....it is not!

I extracted to the folder with the game stuff at first.  Then I re-extracted to an empty folder on the desktop, and dragged every folder to the new one, overwriting the old stuff, would that be the problem?
