I've been playing RA2 on and off since it came out. I'm wondering why every bot has to be so damn complicated nowadays, with all the stacking and crap. Why can't they be simple, and realistic looking?
-
dsl is for you. stock ra2 is now, what, 5-7 years old? you should be happy its still going on. stacking is part of the game now. the glitches are awesome.
if you want realism, go for DSL.
-
exactly what sage said
-
How exactly do I get DSL, it confuses the heck out of me.
-
do you have the CD for your game or a downloaded version? I dont think the download version will work though
-
Torrented version. My CD is scratched to heck.
-
won't work with torrent, maybe fill the cd with toothpaste, that works for DVD's I watch...
-
Aww, poo.
-
get the CD version of DSL. It will work with the torrent thingy.
stacking is innovation. If everyone thought like you we would all be outside playing with sticks.
-
maybe rebuy the game or something
-
I agree with Sage, DSL users have been able to make bots that could be made in real life, and a lot of them work very well.
-
I've downloaded DSL, and it crashes on me quite a few time, when selecting certain components.

READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. word by word by word.
every word.

I read and did everything on that.

Getting DSL was a PitA, but it's really worth it. Especially if you like realistic bots.
If you got a torrented version of RA2 like me, get the download version of DSL, I think.
It crashes occasionally, or lags, but otherwise works fine.
EDIT: Did you remove the "read only" of all of your RA2 files/folders? It helped for me.
-
Go to your DSL folder and delete the Components.cfz (be sure to save it incase you need to put it back)
-
Alright, I removed the cfz, and it didn't give me any control boards, so I had to re-instate it.
Oh, and excuse my ignorance, but what are the Read-Only files?
-
Ahem.
Read-Only is an option that you can generally tag/untag in the Properties window (in the right click menu)
Read only files are files that can just be read/used by your computer, but not modified.
A lot of RA2 files are read only, including the Components and AI folders.
-
UH-OH.........I sense an incorrect installation, just like the one guy who argued with us that extracting directly to the folder is the same thing.....it is not!

I extracted to the folder with the game stuff at first. Then I re-extracted to an empty folder on the desktop, and dragged every folder to the new one, overwriting the old stuff, would that be the problem?
-
That is the proper way......if it doesn't work then you have crapass vista and need to disable UAC so you can overwrite files as normal.......but that damn windoze security alert will make you want to kill Bill Gates and kick your computer, and if you have arrainged your favorites folder to your liking......you will have to rearrainge it again. VISTA SUCKS!!!!
To disable UAC you need to open the control panel and find User accounts and you will find in small print on the bottom the link to uncheck UAC
All in all crapass vista is lots better with UAC disabled and having to exit the piece of crap security alert each time you restart your computer. (we should file a class action suit against the multibillion dollar greedy bastards that force us to put up with that crap.)
You should delete the folder and rename it to something slightly different as VISTA SUCKS!!!
If you don't have vista then YOU messed up, so redo it completely and do it right this time.
-
Nicely said, ACAMS.
-
XP for ever.
I don't know why Microsoft produced some crap like Vista. They should focus on Windows XP corrections/patches, and eventually release a SP3.
-
SP3 came out like 4 months ago buddy :p
-
IT STILL SUCKS
But they did finally fix the security alert popup with SP3
-
SP3 for XP, SP1 came out for Vista and did ab-salsa-nothing
-
I'm an XP-er myself (presently SP2).
MattW, did you get it working yet?
-
Same here, SP2 needed to detect the WiFi connection.
So is it worthwhile to get SP3?
-

You should at least have the blue ax2550 DSL control board and the Ant control board. You DID install DSL 2.0 first, right? You didn't start right away with the 2.1 patch?
-
I just got Vista last March, but I am not upgrading again until I find out how good the next Windows is.

Yes I did.
-
See, this is what happens when one person brings up Vista.
-
XP 4 ever.
How's it going, guys?
