I don't think people like Jeffery and RFS (and maybe even Barbie) even LOOK at the stock showcase. I want you to look at Inf's showcase, and look at how many bots he has that are of a high quality build. All of them. Now look, for instance, at ACAMS showcase. He doesn't really have one, so look at his BBEANS 5 entry. Cool? yes. Good? Seems to be. Better built than Absolute Chaos, Silver Bullet 2, ReaXioN 2, or Vertical Horizon? Opinion, but I think not.

If you don't like nominations, that's your fault. You didn't vote.
You got my vote for RA2 Wizard. Always and forever.

It doesn't matter if I voted or not. Lame-ass user created polls don't impress me. I'm objecting more to the fact that the current community has no respect for those who made what they're doing now possible.

I think the problem is that a lot of us don't know about the past, not that we don't respect it. I've just kind of heard of the name "Dummy" before. Admittedly, I don't even know who he was or what he did for the community. It would be nice if someone could fill me in.

Yep!

Dummy... i think, made the first components, and a .cfz compiler/decompiler among other works.

Dummy is the guy who opened up modding. He made the first custom components, and custom arenas. After doing so, he gave us the tools to do it ourselves.

When moding files, I run into Dummy's work all of the time... he and Dark Rat.

As far as the progress of this game, I think we forget that order doesn't happen by itself. Some individual(s) thought out idea(s), and then did the work to implement the progress of the game.
...It's the same with societies, people born into an somewhat orderly society do not realize the thought and work it took to create the present social order. They're just born into it and they think it's always been, and will always be, that way. So they cease to contribute to the maintenance and start to exploit it. (These are the people who won't even bother to read this section of this post...)
...Same with a teen-ager using his parent's car, they don't know the amount of effort (payments, insurance, repairs, GAS, TIRES, etc) it took to acheive this.... and thus will probably take it for granted.
...War veteran's say this all of the time...
...So, Jeffrey has a good point, and I don't think he's complaining (at least at first because we're not getting it), but rather suggesting that we also remember the vets, that gave so much, but are no longer with us.

Sage is very able to figure out how to accomodate the large contributors of the past... Few relevant factors:
(This poll could specify to include only current members..?)
(The wiki already notes some current and past contributors...?)
(This poll could include ALL, but then cannot really rely on the vote of the current members who don't know some of the pillars of the past....?)

----
#Note to the nerds: I don't want to hear any "There goes Mad into his philisophical (larger picture) jargon again..." because it's by only thinking in a little comfortable box, that the above dynamics can even happen in the first place...*:baby_smily:*

Indeed.

Time passes, and memories fade out.

AU is gone. The official forums are gone. The only significant archives are in the veteran's/oldtimer's memories, and this forum that was far from being the center of the community in the past.

With all the relatively new members we have here, most of the RA2 community focuses on the present and the future, not on the past.

Dummy might have brought a lot of things to the community, but as you guys put it he wasn't very active and isn't since long... and that is why he's forgotten by most.

Another bone to pick: Putting Lu-Tze in a "Gone Missing" category? Do you know how horrible that is? She didn't go missing; she ****ing died! We were informed of this when it happened. So she never went missing. There was no period of time where people were wondering, "Hey, where did Lu-Tze go?" She was active up until her death. Poor choice of words, Sage.

I'm going to catch crap for this, I know, but what would you suggest? I get a feeling "Best worm food" or "Best corpses" or "Best casket stuffers" would be worse.

Yes, actually, I agree with "Frezal/Jeffery". But there really isnt much you can call it otherwise...and "Member's No Longer With Us" sounds just as bad.

And my bone to pick, is that no one knows who SpawnGeek is/was, and should be up there on that list...

Also, I just realized, how in the effin' world was I voted 6th best DSL builder? Click is 1000000% better than I am, and I would say a top 3 builder DSL, and the top builder between both games. Thats just wrong.

Those would be worse, but it's not as if those are the only other options. How about "Best Former Members"? That would include all those who passed away, all who were banned, and all who left on their own without insulting anyone.

I am beginning to think ranks are for noobs.......and maybe we should keep it that way!

goose never even got mentioned, and even tho (hehehe....oooops, sorry) he never was known as a master bot builder....He WAS one of the first few to make a motor and arena and has helped the community in several ways...including the bot exchange that was lost (altho he should have backed it up) He made the first armor pack and if it was not for goose helping me get DSL here on gametechmods,com......it would have went down with AU!!!
Rejected, Spawngeek, Foolishevil, clutch1, and Destroyer 101 were master builders and inovated all the techniques you guy's take for granted. Foolishevil and clutch were the first to mount weapon motors on servo's to place them in body panels that they would not fit otherwise and I was using bursts to do it and didn't even know what I was doing. D101 made the first 1 wheel bot....Omega made the first popup, Mad Scientist discovered the "Trinity" glitch.......YOU GUY'S WERE NO WHERE AROUND BACK THEN.....so it should be noob rankings in my opinion.
I can't say that.....the effee glitch and bot editing (apanx) came later, but on average most of the real masters were skipped in the ranking list.

EDIT:  Don't forget .....Cherry Flavored made the antiballast you now take for granted....and more I will think of as soon as I save this!

I KNEW I was needing to add something...like the masive amount of work and achievement by Starcore and Madiaba.........EVEN THO BOTH were mentioned...they deserve second and third mention! And apanx and Serge (I knew him as mEgAbYtE) because BOTH have added lots of info......especially Serge lately with his decompiler/compiler......And he was NOT even mentioned!

ACAMS makes a good point, but I think we all have to understand that you simply cannot compare builders past and present. Rejected, Spawkgeek, and Foolishevil might have been great builders, and the best-of-the-best, but honestly many of us build bots that shred theirs on a daily basis. Does that make us better builders? Not necesarily. It would be like (I'm going to use a hockey analogy because I can't think of anything else at the moment) saying Bobby Orr wass better than Wayne Gretzky was (I apologize for those who don't get it, but I'm not exactly up to date in Rugby, Soccer, Etc).

Anyways, both were thet absolute best, but if Orr (he played in the 60's-70's) played in Gretzky's era (80's-90's), he'd be useless. So to say that Infiniteinertia is better than Rejected is kind of unfair to both. In my opinion, Inf is the top stock builder on the forums today, and he, like many others, shreds Rejected's bots (NWB, etc) regularily. But is he a better builder in his time than Rejected was in his? I'd say absolutely not.
