Remember Robotica?
« on: June 10, 2009, 04:27:41 AM »
Does anyone else remember the show "Robotica" that was on TLC for a while? I believe it was on the air about the same time that BattleBots was so popular. Seems like it came on right after "Junkyard Wars" on Wednesday nights on TLC.

I actually never heard of Robotica until the end of last year, never saw any videos of it either. Robot Wars was the only thing shown here in aus up till about the 5th season then it went (wasn't it the same time BBC sold it ?) and the last few seasons of battlebots on pay TV that I sometimes caught.

Robotiaca was alright. Was cool how the same bot had to do a bunch of challenges, and fight.  The bots were not all that great, though.

The only thing I remember is Panic Attack getting stuck because it was so wide.

Ahmet Zappa was one of the hosts. Quite a good show, though the combat portion was usually a bit lame.

I saw one episode of Robotica, can't remember the robots involved though.

@Joeblo: BBC sold RW after series six. Here in the UK series seven was shown on Channel Five.
Good evening.

Then wasn't it sold again? It was on TNN here in the states for a while. Mick Foley was the host at that point.

And actually toward the end, it was on Nickelodeon (a cartoon channel) for some reason. I remember because they call Sir Killalot, Sir K.

The Nickelodeon version of RW was a kind of spinoff made for the Nickelodeon channel with american presenters and competitiors and everything, but it was shot in London.

I also believe that another american version of RW was shot in London for America, and thats probably the one hosted by Mick Foley. The British version was always hosted by Craig Charles, except for series one when it was hosted by Jeremy Clarkson.
Good evening.

Yeah, he's Frank Zappa's third kid. He's currently working on a new Fraggle Rock movie (writing and producing, I believe).

I forgot about the rats. Those were pretty lame.

I thought the RW franchise was sold after series 5 anyway my local broadcaster cut RW part way though series 5

Robot Wars Extreme Warriors was a small series which was a US version with mick foley it featured the UK house robots

Robot Wars: Nickelodeon I believe was still uk but it was censored for younger viewers (killalot had to be k)

I remember Robotica, I do not have season one on VHS, but I have a complete season 2 and most of season 3. Robotica had really low TV ratings, so what TLC did with season 3 was just AIR THE ENTIRE SEASON IN ONE DAY. Unannounced. It pissed me off, I caught what I could but they never re-aired any episodes. I heard about a year ago that Robotica was airing in re-runs on Science Channel, but I haven't seen it pop back up yet.

On a side note Science Channel airs Junkyard Wars every day at noon. <3

RW:Nickelodeon was in fact american. I saw a vid of it on youtube a while back and remember it having american presenters and american competitors and everything. But it was shot in the London studio and they did use the origonal house bots. Also, I've never seen it in the UK.

RW Extreme Warriors was what I was on about an american RW series, I just couldn't remember the name. It was also shot in London.
Good evening.

I think I saw the one with Mick Foley, and a lot of the bots in there were terrible. I also saw one that I think was Season 4 of Robot Wars with Craig replaced with some wrestler chick.

I recall a bot called Armorgeddon, or something like that. Had a vaccum pump and a seal so it could stick itself to the ground and become nearly immovable. Very cool design.
