Recommended OS?
« on: May 13, 2011, 12:37:34 PM »
Hey guys, my laptop died and I have to get a new one.  Problem is, I'm not sure if the new laptop will run Robot Arena 2.  I had XP on my old laptop, I'm thinking of getting a new one with Windows 7.  Will Robot Arena 2 with DSL run?  What OS's do you guys use?

Thanks.

EDIT: salvaged the replicas from a backup drive.  I lost some videos I was working on, but the important thing is all my bots are safe and sound.

Windows 7 will run, but glitches will be harder.

I recommend Windows XP SP2 or Windows 95 Plus.

RA2 is fine for me on my Windows 7 laptop.
Better than GK since 2009.

For me, stacking is harder on Windows 7.

DSL and stock both run fine on my Win7 laptop... but I can't stack a single thing. I think Fotepx is right when he says glitches will be harder.

I run on XP and I can't stack anyway, so I have no problems.

When you say glitches, what exactly do you mean besides stacking?

Axle loading and Trinity. Never been able to do either on my Win7, done both on my XP.

I can still axle load, never tried the trinity glitch. Trov Glitch is fine.

I run Windows 7 on my laptop, and both Stock and DSL run perfectly fine. I can stack, eFFe, Axle Load, Trov Glitch, Trinity, Snapper Load, in fact pretty much everything. I don't find glitches any harder on Windows 7 at all, to be honest.

Yea guys, I can't glitch at all on windows 7. I mean seriously all those tutorial videos I made were completely special effects and computer animation, and I make all my bots in photoshop.
You got my vote for RA2 Wizard. Always and forever.

I use Windows 7 and the games work perfectly. Just have problems zooming out in battles and building bots.

The answer is simple... Stick to what you know works well for you. You say that you had been running XP. Then I would stick XP.

On the plus side, it should be cheaper too.

I thought XP was outdated, do they still make computers with it?

To be completely honest, the transition from XP to 7 was extremely natural. A couple minutes of playing around with it, and I found it just as easy to use as XP. It's a lot prettier, too.
