You might want to separate the inductees into sections...for example "Tournament Winners" would contain bots like Hazardous Contraption and Flaming Whizzer, "Robot Milestones" ones like EMERGENCY and E-Rupt, etc.
That's there the validation comes in, you have to explain why you think certain bots should be entered into the RA2 Hall of Fame.

Which makes me wonder...does anyone have a file for the Drumblebee shown in the Hall of Fame? I'd like to study it and how to improve my own Stock Drums.

I think 10 sounds like a better number. I can think of plenty more than that which deserve recognition.

We should have a bigger bot-allowance on the first ballot, since we're sifting through all of RA2 history.  Each subsequent vote can be reduced to a limit of 5 or so after we get all the historical bots out of the way.

Just a suggestion:

I know that in pro sports (for example, the National Hockey League) there are seperate categories for people who have had differing contributions to the game other than just playing it. In the NHL Hall of Fame, there are three categories: players (who made their greatest contributions playing the sport), management (people who are famous for greatness in coaching and player management), and builders (those who made significant impacts on the growth of the game, like exceptional broadcasters and ownership).

Similarily, I think we could have two categories in the RA2 Hall of Fame: Tournament and Landmark. The tournament section would be for robots that have achieved exceptional notariety through participation in tournaments (ie: SFTW or Mako), whereas "Landmark" robots represent the history of RA2, be it through innovation (Absolute Chaos, Neglected Waterbug) or just aggravation (EMERGENCY).

Another suggestion would to be to do away with the "honourable mentions." Having them doesn't make any sense whatsoever, since merely having them is placing more bots in the Hall. Either they're famous enough to be there, or they're not. There's no real in-between.

By the way, just so you guys can get a feel for a two-category ballot like I've just suggested, here would be my inaugural ballot:

TOURNAMENT:
1) Spinner from the West
2) Childsplay IV
3) Mako
4) Flaming Whizzer
5) Hazardous Contraption

LANDMARK:
1) EMERGENCY
2) Neglected Waterbug
3) Absolute Chaos
4) Drumblebee
5) Tha Thumperizer

Let me just stop everyone now before this trend becomes 5 pages of votes..

Its not the place right now.. lets suss out a ruleset first..

Another suggestion would to be to do away with the "honourable mentions." Having them doesn't make any sense whatsoever, since merely having them is placing more bots in the Hall. Either they're famous enough to be there, or they're not. There's no real in-between.

Second this..

Its really like "I dont want you in the hall of fame but dont wish to hurt your feelings"

Alright, so I have read over suggestions and come up with this plan of action.

First off, I will reset the Hall of Fame, and do away with honorable mentions. Following R0B0's proposition, I will break the Hall into two categories. One for landmark or innovation robots and the other for notable tournament participants. I would prefer if everyone gave their reasoning ( a short sentence or two) for why they voted for a particular bot.

As Sonyn_Resetti proposed, I will start off with 10 nominees per voter, and should there be subsequent updates, only 5 nominees per voter from then on.

How does this plan sound to you guys?
Any comments would be appreciated. :D

I am sorry if you feel like I am throwing away the work you did, for that was not my intent. The truly Hall of Fame worthy robots will be voted back in anyway. As for the surge in popularity, your guess is as good as mine.

Voting is now open and will cease July 1st. Opinions on deadline are welcome. Members are to send me a PM with their 10 nominees ( this includes both notable tournament bots and innovative or otherwise impressive robots) along with a short explanation for the nomination of each bot. You can send less than 10 if you want. Bots present in 50% or more of the votes will be inducted into the RA2 Bot Hall of Fame.

Soooooo... can we campaign certain bots? or would that be considered tacky?  Maybe start a thread for people to make HOF suggestions?  Might be kinda fun for lively debate and I don't really see why people need to write up why they are nominating a bot when majority vote is going to rule over reason anyways.

I guess I got confused... I thought the nominations were going to put the bots into a master list for voting or something.  My Bad.

Joeblo did propose that, but I decided against it. I figured pure ballot voting would work just as well and be simpler.

I see no reason why you wouldn't be able to campaign for certain bots. I certainly wouldn't mind...

Well.. now all you have is what we already had..

Your basically restarting the list now because you don't agree with the placement of some..

I mean no offense but your really not improving the system much.. you just going to get the same results split into 2..

Okay... First off I had no problem with current Hall of Fame. I did however agree that it could be more compact, and that the original 25 nominees was to blame. The honorable mentions list was rather large and didn't add much (both my opinion and that of other members), so I decided to do away with it. R0B0 recommend I split up the Hall into notable tournament bots and innovative bots, and so I did. Heck, honestly the only thing I didn't do was what you proposed. Really the only thing people seemed to not like about the current Hall of Fame was that it was too large, and the honorable mentions category was kind of a waste.
Any comments would be appreciated. :D
