Official Rules:

People are to nominate 10 bots via PM to me.
A voting thread will then be made with a poll that contains all the nominees.
The top 10 bots will then be inducted, with discussion being hopefully plentiful.

There, plain and simple. I currently have 3 votes so far and would like to have more.

Deadline is July 10th.

Good idea looking at how outdated that list is... I like the idea of lowering the nominees per user. One thing that you need to be careful of is making the hall of fame of a given subject too open, placing those that deserve REAL honor on the same level as those who might not be so great. Keeping the numbers of inductees low is a good way to counter that.

For example, let's just say by some miraculous action my bot Stratocaster was to get nominated.... Stratocaster may have been a good bot in its time and all, but putting it at the same level as legendary bots like Childs Play IV and Absolute Chaos is simply absurd.

Real world example: Everybody who has anything to do with music is inducted into the Rock n Roll hall of fame.

pit bull and waterbug should be in for sure, and AC, and trinity. the rest should stay honourable mention (which should be on a seperate page) and there's really not many other bots that deserve hall of fame. Adding more would make it pointless IMO

EDIT: actually, any bot that truly makes an innovation in building should be honored. Why is hazcon honored and neglected waterbug not? honestly.

Look at the date of induction... it was big at the time. In hindsight, not really that big a deal; but then? Whole different story.

Yes, but the description says "the start of all DSL juggler designs"... whereas Waterbug was the start of all juggler designs period. which should be in the hall of fame?

i have no idea how the it happened. i think that my HS (which was AIed) havoked UNDERNEATH HoJ, and attacked his teeny-weeny chassis for the kill.

Capping at 10 alone should be enough of a preventative measure IMO.

Apart from cutting off public votes completely and leaving it in the hands of a nomination committee, there's no way to guarantee that only "quality" robots make it in.

Consider this. If the real-life Combat Robot Hall of Fame was decided solely by its organizer then Panic Attack and Cassisus would not have made the cut whilst Tentomushi and Snake would (honorable mention but still). So would have Run Amok; there's no way that would have gone over well politically

Maybe we could have a thread for camaigning for bots you'd like to see inducted. I know a lot of people respect your guys' opinions I'm sure it would be no trouble for one of you to convince the hordes.

Bad Idea for DSL.

Bots 2 years ago are so outdated they have no chance against modern designs, but they will remain the most remembered. Adding modern designs and we just end up talking about which bot has the most flails/best wedge/smallest chassis/most weapon KG. It's really like beating a dead horse.

It is a little bit outdated, and it could use some cleaning up, but I have a bad feeling that it could end up going the same way as the rep system did. Unless EVERYBODY actually does it properly, and I just can't see that happening, in all honesty...

If justification holds they go on a list.. once we are happy with all the nominees everyone select say 3? off the list and then we work out the most voted for Hall of fame?

So if I am understanding this correctly, only 1 or 2 robots get in? And we restart the list?

And more then 2 robots :P .

Its would have to be based of the amount of people voting on the list (not everyone needs to nominate something and if multiple people nominate the 1 robot it still counts as a single nomination)

Its just giving people options to vote on rather then tallying up what people can think off the top of their head..

I think Joe's idea sounds quite good. Say, we ended up with a shortlist of bots, and came up with around 5 Hall Of Fame entries, and 5 Honorable Mentions, depending on how many people vote.

You might want to separate the inductees into sections...for example "Tournament Winners" would contain bots like Hazardous Contraption and Flaming Whizzer, "Robot Milestones" ones like EMERGENCY and E-Rupt, etc.
