ironforge AGOD
« on: January 10, 2016, 01:16:54 PM »
anybody noticed how AGOD is much less prevalent in ironforge? Like in stock almost every bot i made that had a spinning component had AGOD like crazy but in IF I barely have any. The motors in IF also seem to stop much faster in the botlab when you spin them. Are these two things related? I'm curious.

not sure, but i think the lack of agod is because no one snapper loads(or a number of glitches that induce agod) in IF.

no i mean i do have SOME bots in IF that AGOD, but they always are balanced anyway or very rare. its usually wedges and VS like in stock so i have no idea.

right, but the more glitches you use, the more likely agod is. IF doesn't use many glitches, making agod rarer.

i really don't think thats it. DSL had tons of AGOD compared to IF but basically identical building styles

hm.... maybe it's the component weight.

hm.... maybe it's the component weight.

This reminds me of the dual diagonal VS that I built in DSL, which can be found in my showcase. It featured absolutely no glitch exploitation whatsoever, yet the hammers on the spinners suffered from horrible AGOD. A similar thing happened to my angled HS, Gray Ring of Death, except the AGOD is on a wedge instead of on the weapon motor. Both of these bots use Tornado Mer or 6-Mag motors, which have very high speed and low torque.

I too have yet to encounter AGOD in Ironforge, and that may be due to the low weapon weight, since heavier components seem more prone to AGOD than lighter ones.

I swear less chance of AGOD has been mentioned before as a benefit of the lighter weight components in IF when 123 was working on it.
Either way, i've noticed less AGOD too, IF in general seems to be a lot more stable for me all round though to be honest.

the axle glitch of death is so aptly named because no one knows how to prevent it or fix it and it kills your robot.

that being said, my bet is on unstable axles. in ra2, the snapperII axle. in dsl, the skirt hinge
You got my vote for RA2 Wizard. Always and forever.

2 reasons

I did not include the biggest AGOD contributors (metal hinge, and skirt hinge with a collision box).

All parts are done in text, so everything is mathematically symmetrical.  Most of the motor weight is in the axle itself to reduce havok (heavy axle + light parts = more stable rotation).

While I don't have definitive prove, AGOD happens probably due to chaos theory and the game rounding to 6 digits.  With the amount of "double pendulums" in this game, even the smallest impurity will be blown out of proportion.
