I remember when...
« on: September 25, 2012, 04:52:53 PM »
People could comment on robots like this --> "Wow! cool bot Click :D" instead of needing to post some feedback on how to improve the robot. I think this is why the comments are few and far between, people should know that we don't just want to know how to make it better but we also just want to know if you like it or not :)

More replies really helps us builders feel good about what we do and it will make us want to build even better bots, so please comment on bots more... it makes the forum a better place!

well constructive criticism helps too, which is what most people commenting do, and it doesn't demotivate me into not building..

im assuming this is because you posted like 4 bots and got like no feedback rite
How you make Alarm Clock Pizza is:
Step 1: You buy an alarm clock from the store, and then you have to break it and put it in the sauce.
Step 2: Fold the sauce in 5 slices and put it in the dough.
Step 3: Paint the eggs with a pitcher of a clock showing what time you want to wake up and eat pizza for breakfast.
Step 4: Put the eggs in the dough.
Step 5: Make it flat into a round shape and draw the time you want on it.
Step 6: Put some old steel to prevent other peple from stealing it.
Step 7: Make it flat and cut into 60 slices 1 for each minute in 1 our.
Step 8: Put in the oven set the timer to 30048813.2884 seconds and put the temperature on 'Volcano' setting.
Step 9: If you think it is take to long, then get yor alarm clock and set it to now so that it will ring and you can take it out.
Step 10: Take it out uv the uvin wen it is redy and go to bed. In the morning eat pizza and also eat yor hands bi mistake.

Indeed, it does suck. But then again, you don't know it until you've had the GTM Skype talking about how sh*tty your building apparently is behind your back     =P

I usually do post like "Nice Job." or "Wow! Great bot", and I'll give feedback about improving robot when it's REALLY needed.

I remember there being a rule or something about this, which is why I try to post just to give advice. It might have been because of one of the posts below in Forum Rules, but I remember it being a lot more specific, like "Posting comments without giving advice is considered spam" or something.

By the way, a single post of praise isn't constructive, it's just your opinion, so please ADD to your post or don't post.
I am tempted to consider praise without criticism or analysis as spam as well, especially in Click's showcase. It bothers me to no end when someone seems more preoccupied by groveling sycophancy when they comment in a particularly good builder's showcase, rather than giving their opinion or advice. No matter how good the builder is. NO BOT IS PERFECT, REMEMBER THAT. And good builders are generally open-minded enough to accept criticism.

So Nary is to blame! :O I can see where he is coming from though, without constructive feedback we would all be asking "so how do I make it better?" it's still a shame though and it would mean that I would need to know ways for click to improve his bots to post reply to anything in his showcase O.o

Yeah, I hate it when everybody thinks they are supposed to tell somebody how to make their bot better instead of enjoying what they see.

well constructive criticism helps too, which is what most people commenting do, and it doesn't demotivate me into not building..

Most of you have no business giving "constructive criticism" ..... you should simply say "nice bot" or nothing at all!

Is this a rule?  I've been looking at the showcase rules, and it isn't listed as an offence.

There are not enough inefficient builders around here who simply judge bots based on the coolness factor.  (like me  :gawe: )

Also, the internet is a playground for people who feel like they can get an ego boost out of giving advice.  Not going to use any names here... but some "advice givers" really should just be muted from the showcases altogether because they depend on the experience to make them feel more knowledgeable.  They are not truly giving feedback because they care about about the advancement of the builders skill.
