GF93's arena plan
« on: May 17, 2011, 02:48:08 PM »
Just as a thought. Not too long ago, I designed an arena for RA2, which I thought would be good to implement into the game itself, perhaps even use it for a tournament in the future. As a result, I put pen to paper, and came up with a design below-

[PICS COMING ASAP, WILL NOTIFY ONCE FINISHED AND UPLOADED]

Here is a list of planned hazards-

* The Pit- functions much like the original RW Hazard, opened by a switch on the far side of the arena. Instantly eliminates any robot that falls, is pushed, or drives into, and is just above the depth of the arena itself to the floor.

* Killsaws- Rust in Pieces! These powerful cutting blades should function much like their IRL Counterparts, but I aim to give them the strength of standard attachable sawblades mounted on 180 Perms. If possible, could they lift robots up as opposed to retracting into the floor when robots drive onto them?

* Flame Grilles- About the size of the standard Spike/Sawblade pads in the Combat Arena, these hazards consist of three Flame Jets mounted in rows for maximum burnination should robots drive onto them.

* Floor Spikes- these will be rigged in one end of the arena floor, in a configuration of five. I hope to give them the strength to bounce robots into the air should they hit them.

* Arena Walls- Low enough to be flipped over, but high enough to keep robots in- slightly higher than the RA2 Tournament Arena, but slightly lower than the BBEANS arena.

However, as I'm better at designing things than actually making them, I was wondering if it'd be possible to get some help in physically creating it, whilst I make the textures. Is this alright, and if this does go ahead, could I recieve the necessary assistance in doing so? Thanks.

So make the RW arena with floor spikes and killsaws?

Love the word 'burnination' by the way (':

Should be quite different once (and if) it's finished- and yes, I love that word, too. One of the great things Trogdor taught me   :approve:

Maybe have some inclines that rise up on a different switch to give Pushers a good chance.

Might be worth a thought. Although, hopefully I should have the design scanned and ready by Friday.

You should make a flipper. All arenas need a flipper.

Not all of them, matey- I don't want it to be too much like the RW Arena. Still, it's an idea though, might be good for another arena.

That's alright. Still, the Floor Plan is being inked, and now I'm coming up with the design for the walls and outside parts.

It's easy to come up with a concept, it's harder to actually integrate it into the game. Reskinning's the best I can manage at the moment.

Yes, that's the thing. I've got loads of ideas for arenas, but no way to actually implement them- neither the knowledge nor the hardware. Hence, I'm going to submit the design here and see what people think.

OK folks, my arena is now ready. Behold-

The GF93 Arena
"Designed and built under the watchful eye of GF93, this arena, perfectly designed for maximum safety on the outside, but sheer torture on the inside, has it all. With lethal hazards including a smoking pit, razor-sharp circular saws hidden in the floor and walls, flamethrowers, pneumatic spikes and low arena walls, yet still plenty of space to fight in, it's not considered a venue for the faint of heart"

lol @ the Start markers.

It looks quite good, but I'm just a little bit worried it might be a lot for the computer to cope with. Mind you, it manages The Octagon and RW Arena fairly well.

Better than GK since 2009.

I can forgive you for thinking that, but I was more envisioning a cross between the RW Series 3 Arena, the Robots Live arena, and the DSL Tourney arena. So close, but not quite.

They're not platforms, actually- they're borders around the edge of the arena, much like those chevron hazard stripes you see against the arena walls in the Robot Wars Arena.

Thanks mate! So yes, I'm counting on that, really. It's not as big or has as many hazards as say, the RW Arena though, so I think it'll run OK once it's actually implemented.

No- you're thinking of the "Arena Ideas- Post 'em here" thread. I didn't make that. And yes, I do remember our little debate over pits- those were the days  :P
