Why I am losing interest again:
*0 help on the new AW AI pack.
*1 team for the GTM AI pack.
*No feedback on the new RA2RPG boss set-up, barely any on the general topic.
*12 views on the Robo Zone 2 final video.
*My completed Robo Zone 2 tournament topic has almost 1000 less views then nary's 1 round so far tournament (roughly 2 hours vs 33 mins total video time).
I fear that if Trov releases any mods these days he wouldn't get the thanks he deserves, instead people would just download and play the mod without saying anything or ignore it completely. People put in time to provide the community with new and exciting things so I can see why the community is lacking new AI packs and Arenas.
Some questions:
1. What do you want to see more of?
2. Why don't you comment much? (ignore if you do).
3. Where do you spend most of your time on the forum?
4. Do you watch tournament videos that don't feature your own bot?
5. Why don't you enter BOTM?
6. How many AI packs do you have?
7. Do you play stock, DSL or both?
8. What have you given to the community?

8. What have you given to the community?
1. Tournaments.
2. I do, just not much on the showcases or things.
3. Playground.
4. Sometimes, depending on the tournament and bots.
5. I do.
6. None anymore.
7. Both, but DSL more.
8. Nothing really, a few mediocre artbots.
-
I've said it a million times, the artistic side of building is way too underappreciated on this forum. I have proof that my replicas attract new members. Some people can be real twats when they give critique to new members, I know I had to think for quite awhile about whether or not I wanted to say here, after the reception I got.
We've got exactly what we want; everyone who plays Robot Arena 2, and has the interest and the know-how to build bots that can go to to toe with the veterans. Maybe that's what needs to be changed.
Ian, how many views do your videos have? I'd kill to get mine into a measure of thousands.
-
I completely agree with you Ian.
1. Comments in showcases, more people helping in AI packs, Tournaments actually happening
2. I do I just want to see more comments that do with RA2 in general.
3. Showcases and Tournaments.
4. Depends on how creative the other bots are and the gimmick of the tourney.
5. Not good at image manipulation and cropping.
6. 1: the ultimate AI pack.
7. Purely Stock. I would only build in DSL if it was BBEANS.
8. A few VS's, popups and a few other bots.
-
1. DSL3 and people sending teams for LDAI
2. (ignoring because I do)
3. somewhat split between the showcases, real robotics and the chatterbox (I do need to showcase more though)
4. Sometimes, depends on if I'm bored or not
5. I know I can't make a candy splash so most times I just won't bother
6. As in working on/released, 2. As in ones I have downloaded/installed, it depends on the computer. (my old desktop had somewhere around 25, this one has only 3 or 4)
7. More DSL than Stock, but I dabble in both from time to time
8. MMAI, LDAI, the uber tournaments, BW Bash and the other tourneys I've hosted (RW, TTT, BoF)
-
1. Bots and comments from the community. Less playground trash.
2. Time, I have little these days due to my schoolwork. I used to comment on like, every thread.
3. Showcases and Tournaments.
4. I try to but time and bandwidth are constraints.
5. Because I can't make splashes to save my life.
6. Countless.
7. Almost exclusively stock.
8. I don't like to blow my own trumpet, but quite a lot.
Some people can be real twats when they give critique to new members
Completely agree.

.
Some questions:
1. What do you want to see more of? DSL 3
2. Why don't you comment much? (ignore if you do). I prefer observing from afar.
3. Where do you spend most of your time on the forum? Tournament and DSL Showcase sections
4. Do you watch tournament videos that don't feature your own bot? Generally
5. Why don't you enter BOTM? Have no interest in splash making.
6. How many AI packs do you have? Three or so.
7. Do you play stock, DSL or both? DSL
8. What have you given to the community? I suppose the only thing I have really done is furthered the fall of DSL through the pursuit of game-breaking designs.
-
1. What do you want to see more of? Robots that don't always have double wedges/flippers, big flywheels with small wheels. Basically, I want to see less robots like the ones you see in the usual robot showcases.
2. Why don't you comment much? (ignore if you do). N/A
3. Where do you spend most of your time on the forum? Anywhere, depends what the recent posts are.
4. Do you watch tournament videos that don't feature your own bot? Sometimes, I watched a couple of the Olympic videos despite Mr. System's comments, I've also watched 2 or 3 videos of Nar's recent tour'.
5. Why don't you enter BOTM? N/A
6. How many AI packs do you have? 1 - Firebeetle Component Pack.
7. Do you play stock, DSL or both? DSL.
8. What have you given to the community? The second pic and first two links of my signature.

Your replica videos are actually how I found out about RA2/this forum.
Everything I caused is your fault

And me.

ITT inf syndrome "im not appreciated enough for what ive done"
and to answer your questions
1- more stock tournies and stock things and obligatory dsl 3
2- n/a
3- well my user profile says i spend most of my time in stock/dsl showcase
4- if it seems like an interesting match
5- cba
6- hummm lets see: sc4, bbeans ai (with some dl'd bots that i ai'd to test my bots against such as dark void 2, quasar 4, and copy/pasted bots from other ai packs like seism 16 from doomed bots, nuclear fallout from bttb etc, and some bots i ai'd from cb/fb/you and challenge bots), the ai'd bots from that old annihilator tourney i did, pys ai, inf ai, restocked 0.1 and the asai wip all on one copy of ra2
7- stock (i was addicted to dsl for some time but then i got bored and went back to good ole stock) and now i rarely touch my dsl copies
8- 1 (soon to be 2) tournaments, 1 team in ldai (meh), tournament entries, developing asai slowly but surely, some other shizz, a few challenge things hosted, and my stock showcase is on its 20th page now
-
1. Tournaments, which is why I hope to finish BB5 so I can move on to some more exotic ones, instead of it turning into the Survivor of GTM tournaments (lol).
2. n/a
3. Playground, because AS.
4. I watch all tournament vids if I'm in that tourney, and some others occasionally if I'm bored.
5. Because I suck at making splashes.
6. ...let's not talk about that...
7. I play both, although DSL pretty much dominates Stock because I personally think it's open to more creativity.
8. Battlebots. I think that's about it.
-
I realize I didn't actually answer your questions, I'll go ahead and do so, leaving out the parts where I'm just repeating myself
1. What do you want to see more of? Recognition for artistic or just-for-fun building
2. Why don't you comment much? (ignore if you do). Because other people are better at it, and I'm worried I'll get a mute or ban if I don't give good advice.
3. Where do you spend most of your time on the forum? Playground, I was trying to keep Survivor and Ask Sonny going.
4. Do you watch tournament videos that don't feature your own bot? Occasionally
5. Why don't you enter BOTM? Because I'm not good at graphic design
6. How many AI packs do you have? None, it's not a priority
7. Do you play stock, DSL or both? DSL, heavily modded
8. What have you given to the community? See Above
-

5. Why don't you enter BOTM?
6. How many AI packs do you have?
7. Do you play stock, DSL or both?
8. What have you given to the community?
1. Stock tournaments
3. Split time between the 2.
4. Sometimes
5. I entered this month
6. 3, Nar AI for DSL, Ultimate AI for Stock, and another copy that I use for tournaments and my own bots.
7. Both.
8. RA2 Robots for 3+ years.

...I have that feeling you're trying to do too much stuff at the same time.
and don't be surprised if the community does not give your work enough feedback for your own tastes. I feel the same way sometimes. But it's what happens. We're here to have fun, not validate the feelings of others.
Now for your questions...
1-More glorious battles, more awesome robots (See Domanating's showcase for examples), more efficient stuff, more balance, more use of different components.
2-Mostly because I don't feel there is something to add at the point.
3-I tend to spend less time in the showcases and tournaments and more in off topic. Well, that shows a shift of interest...
4-Not any more - most of the time.
5-Realize deadline too late, rationalize it's too late for me to get something good done.
6-Only one I use is nar ai, really. I have others that I haven't touched for a while.
7-DSL
8-Well, I am one of the launchers of DSL standard building. also, nar ai. also, trained many newbies, also moderating stuff, also, MNGM, also, being legendary. That's pretty much all.
-
Some questions:
1. What do you want to see more of? Replica Tournaments and IRL tourneys with a strict adherence to the spirit of IRL building.
2. Why don't you comment much? I comment enough.
3. Where do you spend most of your time on the forum? Showcases and Tournament stuff.
4. Do you watch tournament videos that don't feature your own bot? Sometimes. But too many hosts don't take the time to really outline who made which bot and just record vids. I honestly hate it when I watch a vid to a tournament and it doesn't show a (well made) splash showing both bots and who made them. Strengths and weaknesses are a nice touch too. Click's tournament vids are a good example of what I like to see. I don't like having to go back to the splash or brackets to figure out who made which bot.
5. Why don't you enter BOTM? A decent BOTM entry for me takes sometimes a whole day or weekend to focus on. I just never seem to have the time lately. Winter usually slows my life down, I am more BOTM active then.
6. How many AI packs do you have? Starcore and DSL baby.
7. Do you play stock, DSL or both? Mostly DSL now.
8. What have you given to the community? Positive vibes and support for Artbots/IRL building. I can appreciate there are builders who favor efficiency and builders that favor appearance. Both building styles should be embraced and encouraged depending on the direction of the builder. (but you can save yourself a world of hurt by avoiding the grey area in between)
A note to ian: The appreciation for antweights is fairly low. The matches are unfortunately boring and hardly destructive. While, I do love the challenge of building something small. The excitement of watching it battle is non-existent. I do appreciate that you like them so much, but I just don't see a lot of support from the community in that direction. AI packs are a different monster really. A lot of members here are interested in tournaments... and we use AI packs that test our bots in preparation for tournaments. "Benchmark" AI packs are going to get a lot of support. Inf AI, Starcore, NarAI, etc etc. are very helpful in a sense for testing. "Entertainment" AI packs aren't going to get much support or excitement because usually the player will try it out and then forget about it mostly. To a degree DSL actually falls in this category. It is the foundation, but a dated proving ground. (some might argue that it wasn't a very good proving ground initially)
In closure, I am surprised the community is still active for a (almost) 10 year old game. Given the age of the game, I am happy it has the support that it does have. <3

I think the reason the forum seems to be "dying" is because it's aging. We get a huge influx of younger members (I mean, we have 1063 members, there's a bunch joining every month), but only a handful stay, and the ones that have been around a long time are starting to leave, so it looks as if it's lost the original feel.
-
Basically people the building known as GTM is starting to collapse.
I'd give it another 3 to 5 years before it crumbles to dust.

what i find funny is all the people who claim that the forum is dying are members who a new compared to how long ra2 has been around, lol.

Yes

Nonsense. This forum has lasted for a while, and it will last quite a bit more.
-
GTM and RA2 will be around for years to come, i wouldn't fret over it.
-
I mainly play RA2 because: A = It's fun. B = I like making bots. C = I friggin love Robot Combat.

1. What do you want to see more of?

4. Do you watch tournament videos that don't feature your own bot?
Never have unless it was a championship round for a good tournament
5. Why don't you enter BOTM?
Because I suck at this game
6. How many AI packs do you have?
Couldn't tell you. Thinking about deleting them.
7. Do you play stock, DSL or both?
Neither
8. What have you given to the community?
A sh**ty glitch that doesn't work, Guidelines for online play that doesn't happen anymore, A pretty face, Free labor, Years of my life

so enigma is a MtF, or did you actually broke his heart ? Cuz i'm pretty sure I won't be able to discuss with enigma anymore if he is a reverse trap.

enigma is mah waifu, thats different

Why I am losing interest again:
*0 help on the new AW AI pack.
*1 team for the GTM AI pack.
*No feedback on the new RA2RPG boss set-up, barely any on the general topic. Because it'll never work, thus it is only fantasy therefore is pointless
*12 views on the Robo Zone 2 final video.
*My completed Robo Zone 2 tournament topic has almost 1000 less views then nary's 1 round so far tournament (roughly 2 hours vs 33 mins total video time).
^ People aren't interested in the stuff I am waaaa
1. What do you want to see more of? Stock SNSs
2. Why don't you comment much? (ignore if you do). Out of playground? Because I'm not an RA2 expert and I hardly ever play the game
3. Where do you spend most of your time on the forum? Playground
4. Do you watch tournament videos that don't feature your own bot? Nope
5. Why don't you enter BOTM? Because I would fail
6. How many AI packs do you have? 3 or 4
7. Do you play stock, DSL or both? Stock, a little DSL
8. What have you given to the community? Nothing at all.
-
1. I'd like to perhaps see some more tournaments like Steel Warzone, or Robot Wars Series 8. Ones that give each mod a new set of rules to play with, so we see new designs and components being used in different ways.
2. Either because I don't have enough knowledge of the subject being discussed, or my girlfriend is being particularly aggressive.
3. Predominantly Showcases and Off Topic. Plus Tournaments because, y'know. I'm a moderator. :gawe:
4. For the most part, yes. I'll admit that I tend not to watch tournaments that I haven't entered, though.
5. Either lack of ideas or my aggressive girlfriend.
6. I have five AI packs. Stock, DSL, Starcore V4a, NAR AI 2.3 and 2.7. Used to have both BBEANS AI packs, but deleted them due to space constraints, and the lack of a challenge from earlier bots, such as Seasons 1 and 2.
7. Both. Depends on which ideas I happen to get, or what tournaments are running.
8. I like to think some good times and a friendly atmosphere, first and foremost, plus a good selection of challenging robots, and maybe pushing the building envelope a little bit. Not as much as other members, but I've played a part, I reckon.

2.
3.Tourney's
4.yup
5.No skills in paint or photoshop
6.40-50 somewhere in that range.
7.both and other mods as well.
8.Tournaments and entries for tournaments I think are interesting.
-
I get involved when tourneys happen. There have been too many tourneys with a minimal range of potential participants. A large stock MW (like 090901's) or HW, or just a good HW tourney helps to keep this game's momentum going. AW isn't used much, so while you may claim it as a point of originality it's just as much a deterrent from joining tournaments. The advantage of tourneys like Steel Warzone, BTTB and Nary's is that they're honestly not that hard to build for.

6. How many AI packs do you have?
7. Do you play stock, DSL or both?
8. What have you given to the community?
1. More tournaments without a stupid gimmick. Simple tournaments to build for generally get more people building for them. IRL, Standard or Unrealistic, usable weightclasses, or tag team. Don't tack too much on.
2. Because not much is happening in the building world. Make a tournament that will attract people easily and people will build moar.
3. Music and movies, showcases, tournaments.
4. Not often.
5. Because this isn't the Paint.NET competition centre
6. 5: Starcore, Nar AI, 123STW AI, Psy AI, BBEANS AI (stock version)
7. DSL mainly. Stock is a little too time consuming and aggravating.
8. A bot type, a few new building ideas, not much else. I'd try a tournament but I'd have to run an ultra ghetto setup and I'd rather run a tournament well.

5. I enter to some, those which interest me. (AW-MW)
6. Atleast 7 (DSL & Stock BBEANS AI's, Stock Mini AI, StarCore AI, Pys AI DSL & Stock Vanilla AI)
7. Both for sure.
8. Great Tournaments and Forum games.
-
1. People entering tournaments
2. -
3. Tournaments and Games
4. Sometimes
5. Don't have much time or real intrest, I would rather see what others have built
6. About 6 or 7
7. Both
8. Robotic International Wars tournament series, KORWS4 and an upcoming AI Pack.

6. How many AI packs do you have?

8. What have you given to the community?
1. Mods. Something for me to actually do that's different.
2. Because I only really comment in the showcase section and tournaments, and the showcases haven't been that active lately.
3. Showcases and Tournaments.
4. If I like one or more of the bots involved, yes. Otherwise, no.
5. I've entered it once, and I think my splash skills showed I shouldn't.
6. Lets see.. 123 AI, NAR AI, SC4, Inf AI, Pys AI, Stock BBEANS AI, the AI for my tournament and my own little AI pack going on. Might dl a IRL pack and have a IRL DSL game instead of lumping all my IRL bots on one team of my standard..
7. Both, but primarily DSL.
8. Couple teams in Nar AI, a really awful bot type that nobody builds, a tournament that will be finished, a more interesting tourney idea afterwards (if I feel like it), and I want to think general good advice giving in showcases and a few interesting bots.

2. I do.
3. DSL Showcase
4. Most the time, if I enjoy the tournament.
5. Poor splash skills
6. 23 to 24
7. DSL very little stock
8. RA2Olympics, constent showcasing, plenty of teams made on time for AI packs, and an upcoming RA2Olympics AI pack after Lillihammer.
-
1. What do you want to see more of?
Productive general discussion of RA2. Bots don't really interest me as much as they used to but I'm always looking for cool ideas, discoveries, etc. That said, I also like seeing stock tournaments and new mods (the latter is of the most interest to me).
2. Why don't you comment much? (ignore if you do).
Though I usually check the forum once a day, there hasn't been enough RA2 discussion that interests me. I've been involved with RA2 for many years but I've never commented much.
3. Where do you spend most of your time on the forum?
I tend to skim through the Stock showcases and read the commentary in the sections that I moderate.
4. Do you watch tournament videos that don't feature your own bot?
If it is in stock, I usually watch it but thats only when I have time and remember that it is there.
5. Why don't you enter BOTM?
I don't enter unless I have enough time and interest.
6. How many AI packs do you have?
I don't remember off hand but there are too many IMO.
7. Do you play stock, DSL or both?
Stock. DSL is cool but I've never been much for it.
8. What have you given to the community?
Not much.
-
8. What have you given to the community?

MMMEGA POST
...big flywheels with small wheels. Basically, I want to see less robots like the ones you see in the usual robot showcases.
Where are you seeing this nowadays? HS and VS are totally outdated and outclassed in DSL at least.
ITT inf syndrome "im not appreciated enough for what ive done"
Myes. Tournament videos never get huge amounts of views. It's only people that are in it or have been following it. Personally I have not seen it because I am not interested in stock or AWs

JD I love you.
Oh and PokAImon has been downloaded 3 times at maximum. I put hours into that.
I'm far too cynical about everything here.

Stock was fun until we finally had to put a limitation on in-game glitches (hax mode).
DSL was fun until i built a sh**ty popup and won BBEANS6.

I'm terrible at bot building.
-
1. What do you want to see more of?
DSL Tournaments that are "just for fun". In other words, the standard of building isn't like 123stw or The Ounce. IRL tournament host are way too picky about what is "realistic" and what isn't. Standard DSL tournaments are full of bots that are either built to be generic as possible or so efficient that Barack Obama would masturbate to them, or full of bots that exploit every loophole the builder can find. Getting past round 1 of a tournament is fun every once in a while.
2. Why don't you comment much?
My input is deemed unimportant when I do, so screw you assholes.
3. Where do you spend most of your time on the forum?
The former Off-topic and Junkyard. Showcases and Tournaments on occasion.
4. Do you watch tournament videos that don't feature your own bot?
Yes. I even downloaded most of the BB5 until the pace got to one video a month.
5. Why don't you enter BOTM?
I have no decent ideas for anything that would be worth splashing and that I feel anyone would give a sh** about. Thus the reason everything I build goes into the showcase after being entered in a tournament. Seldom before.
6. How many AI packs do you have?
Two. Stock and DSL, both with original AI.
7. Do you play stock, DSL or both?
I once played stock regularly, but I haven't even opened stock for over a year. I stick to DSL now.
8. What have you given to the community?
Jack sh**, in my opinion... Other than a running joke that got old two years ago.
Edit: Fixed some spelling errors.

I'm terrible at bot building.
You are only terrible because you gave up on building because you thought that you were terrible

Getting philosophical, I see.
Yes, that is part of my problem.

1. What do you want to see more of? DSL 3
2. Why don't you comment much? (ignore if you do).
3. Where do you spend most of your time on the forum? The Showcases
4. Do you watch tournament videos that don't feature your own bot? Sometimes
5. Why don't you enter BOTM? I can't make splashes
6. How many AI packs do you have? 3 (1 123 AI, 1 Ultimate Stock AI, 1 for IRL building)
7. Do you play stock, DSL or both? Both
8. What have you given to the community? None
-
1. What do you want to see more of? More fun building.. before people jump on my and say IRL.. no, thats debated over too.. rule of cool doesnt seem accepted anymore if somethinbg cant fight as well as a clone of a clone of a clone... thats why I lost all interest in building..
2. Why don't you comment much? funny enough.. you know how this site goes down at consistant times each day? my time zone means its down before work and after work until later at night.. so a lot of it I have no choice in.. beyond tech support I dont have much else to offer anymore anyway..
3. Where do you spend most of your time on the forum? The server error page :/
4. Do you watch tournament videos that don't feature your own bot? My own tournaments count? :P If people rave about how good something was I tend to want to see it for myself but I no longer even read other tourney threads
5. Why don't you enter BOTM? I dont want to sound up myself.. becasue im not.. but it came to most people not wanting me to win anymore :/
6. How many AI packs do you have? installed? couldnt tell you but 40+ RA2 copies speak for themselves
7. Do you play stock, DSL or both? Option 4 ;) but I really havent played anything in the last year
8. What have you given to the community? Years of my life, Moderating/ Maintaining, The 1.4 Patch, 10 Tournaments, 1 AI pack, Countless smaller patches and fixes, new components, new arena's, skin/ graphic work and a reason to hate me for not releasing a bunch of said stuff yet..
-
3. Where do you spend most of your time on the forum? The server error page :/
we have a winner
-
Seems like people don't enter BOTM due to splash skills, I have the same problem as seen by my pitfall splash :laughing .
-
That's probably the primary issue with BOTM, the splashes. I've enterred BOTM once ever with my replica of Metal Gear Rex, which was pretty good as a bot but the splash completely let it down. I don't have the time to get practice with Paint and so on, and I know my bots would probably only get votes if the splash was good.

Yes, just like all the builders who bawww about how the community these days don't accept them.

Stock was fun until we finally had to put a limitation on in-game glitches (hax mode).
It is really unfortunate that happened really. From my perspective, since the unveiling of hax mode. The veterans that embraced it have lost interest in the community because it is not allowed in tournaments. Yet, tournament hosts don't want such an unbalanced playing field. So they disallow hax mode to make a tournament more inviting to new/unskilled builders. It makes tournaments more inviting and fun, but alienates the elite builders that take things to the next level.
It's actually kinda fascinating how delicate the balance is (and continues to be).
Honestly, I would love a hax mode centric tournament that got entries from Sage, Scrap, Robo, Psyc, Inf, etc etc. (Plus current awesome stock builders)
-
I checked the statistics, and there are new members joining like normally, only difference I've seen is just that there has been less topics and messages lately, but I wouldn't say that the community is dying. It's just not so active year compared to 2010 & 2011. If you know what I'm trying to say here...
-
So you stock guys are afraid of a lack of balance ? Hey, just make up a rule system for standard Stock building that says what you can and cannot have in your bots. Make it the default rule for stock tournaments, and those who are caught breaking the rule should be punished.
Note that it should not focus on HOW it is done, but on the RESULT, considering that no one but the builder can control how it is done.

yeah this. nothing is stopping anyone from showcasing hax mode bots or running hax mode tourneys.

1. more mature members who build
2. if i have something important to say i say it. otherwise i see no point in saying something like "great bot" or "looks cool"
3. dsl showcase and real robotics
4. not usually because i don't have time. if a bunch of people are talking about how awesome a match was, i will watch it
5. if i have a "good" idea i enter. otherwise i don't.
6. 2 (starcore 3 and DSL 2.1)
7. i dsl most of the time.
8. i'm not really sure what counts as a contribution but i have a fairly active dsl showcase and provide insight about real robotics and moderate the section.

Hax mode exostacking == perfect invulnerable chassis. And perfect invulnerability is just stupid in any game.
Hax mode without exostacking would do nothing but make HS chassis a bit smaller, while taking away most of the design step. I am not seeing where the excitement is. By the end of the day what matters is still the de-weapon game.

8. What have you given to the community?
1. n00bs
2. Because I would sound like a broken record. DSL == MOAR RAZORZ, Stock == MOAR BEARCLAWZ.
3. On the main page
4. I don't even watch videos with my own bot.
5. The rules tend to be too restricting for me, so I only enter those "do whatever the heck you want" ones.
6. While I have others, I only play 123AI on DSL because I am self absorb like that.
7. DSL, maybe a bit of stock now but not really.
8. Nothing.
Also you are building AW stock AI pack and an "I DON"T ACCEPT NEW BOT" pack.... Like just maybe they are not the most interesting things in the universe...

I have to agree... There just aren't many people that are into Stock AW bots. There's a lot of people that don't even like DSL AWs.

I know people don't like them much, I've been trying to encourage more sub-weight building but it turns out that only I can come up with new AW designs :P things that weren't done before me:
*AW wammers, Unicorn is a good example.
*Axle spinners including a 4 razor HS axle spinner :)
I'm not the best builder here, nowhere near it so I know you guys can do something even better.

I think "Lack of fun factor" might be due the fact just about every robot in Stock(and DSL, I guess), can only use like 1-2 weapons, and everything else just gets frowned upon.
Battleaxes look absolutely badass. Do they kill robots? Hardly. Would you want to sacrifice looks over efficiency?
Let me ask you this: If you destroy another robot, would you want to look good doing so? Or just have a real tacky appearance?
-

they make cool armor though.....

HEY.
I LOVE BATTLEAXES.

I LOVE BATTLEAXES.
Would ever use them as your robot's primary weapon?

Would be pretty cool to have them on a flipper. Maybe a popup. Anything else, meh.
