Extenders on a HS?
« on: April 16, 2009, 02:00:14 PM »
To mount the weapons on, is it better to use a longer extender as opposed to a shorter one? I was thinking, and a weapon at the end of a longer extender, if the motor is spinning at a constant velocity, would pack more punch, than one at the end of a shorter one. Thing is, I'm not sure if the game understands this concept, and I'm not sure if it applies it... It wouldn't be too much of a jump, I'm trying to decide between 40cm and 60cm extenders. What does everyone think?

Longer extenders will slow down spin up times. But they are faster.

Well its not nearly done, but here it is as it stands now. Its basically my attempt to make a more compact version of my other HS, deadlights.

If you use long extenders, you want to place them in such a way that they can hit some vulnerable place on the opponent in order to take advantage of the increased reach.  Either put the tribars as low to the ground as possible, or put them high up like Vortex CE.  You'll have a better chance of hitting the opponent's motors and wheels before they can hit you.

If I were you i won't put them really high like Vortex CE. This is the easiest way to have a horribly vulnerable lower chassis and get raped by gut-rippers (jugglers, popups, even fast disc VS can have a chance). I favor undercutters (like click said, the ones with lower tribars) mainly because it's probably better against wedged bots also.

Yeah, long extenders improve your reach and your overall weapon tip speed, but lower your spinup time and more importantly makes your weapon heads vulnerable. Vortex CE often loses extenders first, rather than razors.

Will that leave you more vulnerable to hammers? Though there really are not that many hammer bots being built right now.....
Any comments would be appreciated. :D
