You might be able to do this with a geared Beta.

Now the problem is that it's 180 degrees, maybe a little too much.

yeah, that`s the point. And the Beta goes down again if you stop press the "fire" button. The motor I had in mind then should work a bit like a servo.

I agree a motor like the beta burst only a smaller arc would be cool, prevent those times when a robot is underneath and your flipper retracts pushing down on the other robot flipping you over

That's not an issue if you use either a single analog control for AI-ing, either two switches for human driving.
