I think slipster should get his own wikipage...
Put this onto your signature if you were part of this crappy fad in '03.

Nice work.  The ruler skin looks better with the increased contrast, but it could still be more accurate.  Now that I think about it, a completely new skin would probably be best.  It could also benefit from higher resolution.

Idea: make a ruler alongside the chassis height slider with 5-click increments.  (The minimum Z-tek height is 5 clicks above the bottom.)  That would help with other precise height adjustments too... like sometimes, I have to make a chassis with 12 click height or something, and it's inconvenient to count that high every time I make a shape adjustment.

The ruler Component should be easy to malupulate and improve. I will work on a complete new skin when i get time.

Great idea about the chassis height slider.
However, im not sure how to go about adding a static graphic to the Slider area.( only show when in phase 2 of chassis build) The backdrop is used over a few screens therefor it would show the ruler in unwanted screens (hope that makes sense).

Another addition to accuracy. (if using stock)

Ive added a line pointed out by the red arrow. moving the slider gives you the minimum height for a z-tek motor :)

Measure line for chassis  fitting a Z-tek

Just move the slider to that line and you have the perfect height!

This is just beta. More time i could add more precise lines with Text!

I made one of those for Starcore V4 (after alpha2 was sent out) that had all the component heights (even the heights below zero) labeled in the Help menu and all the heights from 0 to 105 (counted up by fives) next to the slider.

Edit: I forgot to mention that it only appeared next to the height slider (not in any other screens because I added a graphic to the .gib). I could probably upload it if any of you want it, tomorrow.

I also tried making the ruler more accurate but gave up because I couldn't get it to match the lengths of extenders (a 20cm extender should equal 20cm). Your ruler looks better than my attempts anyways.

I also made a new disk skin for determining the speed of a motor but I'm still not satisfied with it.

I had a version with the same markings for heights,.. though not as intricate. Saves mucho time.
Just a thought: I also made a couple preset patterns on the 'blueprint' so that I could easily tweak out a chassis that would barely fit a Black or pink battery (or 2), or a black and 2 HP z-teks,...  De-select the "Align to grid" option. I had about 5 chassis designs outlined on the blueprint behind, each in a different color.

..
Input is appreciated. :)

Another great idea!  This thread is like a fountain of ingenuity!

Better yet: Have several common components outlined on the grid (Z-tek, battery, baseplate anchor) so you know exactly how big they are in relation to the grid and can easily shape an  efficient chassis.  I can never remember exactly how wide Supervolts are.  Something like that would be immensely helpful.

It doesn't quite line up with the grid.  It doesn't have to; I only say this because it looks like it's supposed to line up with the grid.

But the colorful skin is a lot clearer and a lot easier to measure.  I thought of making it high-resolution with smaller numbers, but I think the colors work even better.
