A question of the morality of people here regarding gameplay.
« on: October 16, 2008, 04:24:39 PM »
Why is it that Cheating is regarded as worse than sin, wheras Glitch exploiting (Something that can and WILL get you banned in other games.) is regarded as part of the game.

My opinion:

Cheatbot 2 is just some extra parts, and isn't such a big deal.

Sure, the parts are just crap. But so are some parts in DSL. (Yes, I'm looking at you, 500 CM disk extender.) And the Parts CAN be used rationally, so why the hatred for them?
Put this onto your signature if you were part of this crappy fad in '03.

When DSL was created, creating realistic bots in stock was rendered obselete. And people just hate cannons. Or something.

I voted Realistic bots but I could have voted Glitch Exploiting.

Cheat parts = gay.

What do you call Modification packs?

glitch exploiting is just part of the game now. people don't realize this game would have been dead years ago without the many glitches that progressed the game farther.
You got my vote for RA2 Wizard. Always and forever.

Modification packs: Variations from the main game in terms of game play or difficulty.

(i.e. DSL, RA2GE, Pys AI, Starcore)

I personally like mods because of the "safety" they bring to the game. It is also a little harder to suspect than glitches if its like a aiming bot mod in FPS games.

The cheatbot2 parts may be big and heavy, but combine a hover engine, a servo, and a few cannons and it's unstoppable.  Anyone remember Firebeetle's Ceiling Crow?

It's actually hard to define where "glitch exploiting" begins and ends.  For example, is EMERGENCY a "glitch bot" because its flippers go through the ram plates, even though such a design could be done in real life?  Or do you call the typical rammer with a wall of axe heads "glitch exploiting" because it makes no realistic sense (in real life, 1 axe on a rammer would do at least as much damage as 100), even though no glitches are required to build it?

I think that's why "glitch exploiting" has become common practice in RA2.  It's actually hard to make a good bot that is inarguably glitch-free.

That said, this thread has given me an idea for possible future BBEANS.  Realistic-ruled stock anyone?  Would be interesting and challenging to say the least...

Realistic stock sounds good to me, cause in bbeans 5 I can imagine lots of giga caster-armored heavies. Sounds cool. <3

Glitch exploiting because it adds a dimension of originality and as Click said, it's hard to build a bot without using some form of glitch.

BBEANS5 should be realistic to see how well we can do without glitching.

I see no problem with using cheatbot2 parts.  after all, those are parts that came with the original game, as did the AI parts.  A good dual VS can be made with a hover engine, one that won't tip over.  The magnet ... no real value.  The flamethrower can be used to damage, but not kill - a physical blow is needed for the kill - but it can rack up points amazingly fast.  The cannon, of course, can be wired anywhere there is an air-powered weapon (like replacing the Boxer's arms with cannons - try it sometime!).  All the cheatbot2 and AI parts do is give more options for building.

Glitch exploiting, such as stacking components inside each other to make more densely compact bots, has become the rule rather than the exception.  Who can forget such famous glitches as the Nasty Pickle or the Trinity glitch?  The DSA (double-strength aluminum) glitch, perhaps one of the easiest glitches for  building, is in widespread use - does anyone even know what the original armor selections were?  (Plastic, aluminum, titanium, and steel.)

Glitches are part of the game ....... they're not going to go away.

Using a cannon, you can defeat an opposing robot before the intro is over.

I've never participated in a bbeans match. I'd LOVE to build a bot for realistic tourney pwnage.. it will give us non-glitchers (when I say that I mean the ones who cant glitch like Click and Sage) a snowballs chance in heck.

I picked realistic bots because they are hard to make effectively or efficiently when being pitted against over glitched bots so it produces a challenge.

When is the next bbeans match anyway? (dont answer.. I'll check site.)

I\'m so happy I\'ll stab your ass and lay down next to you dead in the grass.
