A few questions from a newcomer
« on: June 25, 2009, 05:52:08 AM »
Hi , i found this game a few days ago and it is simply GREAT, i got the basics, except a few questions.

1 ROTATION: I know how to easy rotate pieces with CTRL (or SHIFT don´t remember) but that is horizontal rotation, but how can i rotate vertically the same piece (I did a few times but i don´t know how :( )

2 MULTIPLAYER WITH CUSTOM/ADMIN PARTS: I actually don´t´know how to activate cool parts in mp games (I will love smashing my friends with a hoovercraft bot)

If someone can ask me that questions , i will be SO grateful, i´m new in this game, so any information about playing it in internet will be good too :gunz:

Thanks in advance :)

For the first one: Can you see those green dots in the preview picture? Click on those and the part will attach with that point.

Second one: I suggest you dont even use custom/cheat components for serious bots. There is a way to make them aviable in multiplayer, but I forgot how. And on top of that, your freind would need to have those exact parts too.

Also welcome to the forums. Dont forget to make a shocase and show us your bots and we will help you make them better.

hi again, and thanks for answer me so fast

I knew about that green dots(will be fuses for me ,cause i have DSL 2.0),i know i have various colocation points, but i mean, its posible to rotate a motor vertically (I did it two or three times) but i don´t know to.

(Sorry , my explanations are really bad :S)

I mean, when i put a motor looking verticaly (Like a heli from a helicopter, horizontal rotation means nothing, but with vertical rotation , you can spin motor in the vertical (emulating the angle changer)
Sorry for my bad explication, but my english is really bad, so sorry.

Edit: Vertical rotation in a motor, not the normal one with ctrl. With control you always rotate horizontally.

Second edit: A third question, it´s posible to have DSL parts and normal parts and use all ? I have lots of parts (i downloaded a few component packs) and I don´t know too why I don´t see some of then (only anchor points)

BTW, about the second point, my friend have all parts i have :P

Thanks at new in advance, and sorry again :)

Shift and CTRL raise and or rotate the components.
To use DSL online you need to open C:\Program Files\Infogrames\Robot Arena 2 DSL and find ra2.cfg and open it with notepad, then find..

AllowNonStandardMultiplayer=0

and change to

AllowNonStandardMultiplayer=1

your friend must do the same.

sorry there is no way to rotate a motor vertically, the best way to get a different angle would be using a base plate anchor to get the angle you need

it is possible to mix DSL and Stock but most people prefer to keep them separate from each other anything that doesn't come with DSL or Stock are fun to play with but are not legal in tournaments unless specified.

if there not showing check you added them correctly.. if prompted to overwrite any files click yes

Also welcome to the forums from me too

maybe they was a camera bug i didn´t see again that rotation style :S

Thanks all for your fast posts, really :D

One last question, ¿How to get standart parts and custom parts separate? (i mixed all)

PD:Btw i´m playing the downloaded version (but i though to buy it , i think the game worth the money) maybe that will be the reason to i don´t see well certain parts (cheatbot parts and some custom parts usually)

Editing again:(sorry for boring you all guys :P ) ¿where are instructions to do a showcase to share with this great community my bots? :P

thanks! thanks! thanks! :D

stock bots (so original RA2) make a new topic in Showcase called something like "arkaaa's Showcase" and for DSL robots create a new topic in DSL Showcase called something like "arkaaa's DSL Showcase" then just post up pictures and info and others will help you :-D

I didn´t use axles in that model, so that can´t be.

PD:I saw a few more times ago, i was putting a motor at first component, motor is always the same :S

You can't attach a part inside another part.
And you only need to make one thread.

If you want to rotate a motor vertically while mounting to something else, it's the same button as the horizontal rotations.

Hi,
I saw the way to allow nonstandard components, but there's a problem. My file doesn't include AllowNonStandardMultiplayer=0, so there is currently no way for me to enable DSL play. Is there any way for me to fix this?

I'm pretty sure it's there. You just need to find it.

When you open Notepad and go to Infogrames - Robot Arena 2/ Robot Arena DSL 2, you'll see the folders for the AI, Arenas, and all that stuff. When you're there, start typing in, "ra2.cfg" in the File Name box. When you see it pop up, click on it. You'll see, "AllowNonStandardMultiplayer=0" near the bottom. That's when you can change it to, "AllowNonStandardMultiplayer=1".
