So yeah I caught that beetle v2, mantis edition

No, not a clickbeetle.

This is what I caught on my window. Pretty goddamn sure it's a rose chafer (Cetonia aurata).

It's in a small bottle, with fruit, water, and air. It wants to go away but I'm not letting it go - I intend to find other adults and breed them. I hear it's not a very difficult species. I'll get a larger case as soon as I get more of them.

Besides, it's pretty nice and fun to have. No, it's harmless and i'm not going to train them to overwhelm my enemies.

Interesting- always found things like insects to be quite fascinating. Would its name happen to be Deathbringer the Shiny, by any chance?   :P

wow guys good job derailing the thread 10/10

Anyway, looks cool dude. Maybe I can find a beetle and breed it and we can raise beetle armies and fight them.

while we stand on top of dead bodies of our foes, fist fighting to the death with our shirts off. On fire.

Another insect keeper? Welcome to the club!

However, if you indeed are as manly as you say, you shouldn't breed a beetle that eats flowers and fruits! You should keep manly insects! In other words, dangerous and/or voracious predators, such as:

You should keep a centipede instead.

Those things are just awesome.

Bah. I caught one, put it in a terrarium and now I can't see it. Did it dig under the surface ? Does it lack direct sunlight?

This morning I went to catch another one or more, didn't found anything. It's either not hot enough or this year isn't kind on beetles.

Maybe I should find a few Cincindela campestris, the green tiger beetle, and start keeping them. I hear the adults are incredibly bloodthirsty, and even the larvae are ambush predators.

I would need to breed flies or/and mealworms for it, though.

Beetles tend to dig a lot so it's quite normal

I thought on the tiger beetle too actually. But due to their very small size, it makes them far less interesting to keep, imo. Also, if it escapes, you'll have a very hard time catching it. They are the fastest land animal in the world in proportion to its size.

Tiger beetles are just plain fast. Always wanted one. Too bad they don't exist here in Malaysia  :(

The centipedes here are pretty small and I never find a live one.

I did keep a Caucasus beetle for quite some time though.

I'll tell you what a manly pet ... A snapping turtle.

I used to have two of them. I had one if them long enough that I could handle him and he wouldn't even snap at me, but would anyone else.

If you live in Malaysia, you are so wrong. You have almost everything an exotic pet keeper would want and I envy you just because of that. Tiger beetles do in fact live in Malaysia and it's not just one species. You also have Giant centipedes there. Not to mention countless spectacular insect species, countless praying-mantis species that I would die to have, Chameleons, snakes, tarantulas, giant stick/leaf insects and god knows what else.

You do not know what you have there but you have a lot. Check this site out and see for yourself

I've always found "walking sticks" interesting, but I never see them anymore...

Would they be a specie of mantis?
