Cool Whip is pure nasty. It's whipped hydrogenated coconut oil with other nasty. Do yourselves a favor and just buy a small carton of whipping cream. It'll cost you about $1. Pour it into a bowl. Add about two table spoons of sugar. Then, using a hand mixer, whip until nice and frothy. It'll taste great, and it won't clog your heart as much.

As for what I put on my pancakes, just plain old real maple syrup. I don't use anything but the real stuff. Sure it costs a lot more, but real maple syrup is so much better than that "maple flavored" high fructose corn syrup. For one, it tastes better. For two, your body can digest it easier.
