Making a web forum on proboards is like making yourself a business card with paper from a notebook and a half-writing pen.

If you want to create a semi-successful forum, just buy some hosting. It's dirt cheap these days. And if you can't spend a couple of bucks, well then, you shouldn't be making forums anyway.

not everything needs to cost money, serge. my forum is a Forumotion thing, tho it does have a domain name.

It has to if you don't want it to look like sh** and have ads plastered all over.

look at my forum. only one ad at the top and that's it. and that is with a domain name. and i don't remember those being free. and ad was there before the domain name tho. so it doesn't make any difference.
you just shouldn't be so pushy with all the higher up stuff. anything can be successful if you put some good effort in it.

Wouldn't it be better if there were no ads at all, or at least ads that gave YOU revenue? Also, a domain name is like 5€ per year. For another 15€ you could get really good hosting.

of course no ads is better, but if the just one ad isn't in the way, and you know how to ignore it, what is the problem. and i can understand why the free forum hosting stuff has ads, it still costs them money to host a sh**load of stuff. for the one creating something on proboards or forumotion or whatever, it's completely free anyway.
and see i was right, domain name is not free.

On the contrary, I think posting anything operation crossroads related makes it a winthread.

I rather doubt we can prevent that. This argument has gone on too long to avoid it. (Dammit! Too late!)
