Me and Velocity EVO have been working on a forum for railway junk, and we sort of need people.

Making a web forum on proboards is like making yourself a business card with paper from a notebook and a half-writing pen.
If you want to create a semi-successful forum, just buy some hosting. It's dirt cheap these days. And if you can't spend a couple of bucks, well then, you shouldn't be making forums anyway.

of course no ads is better, but if the just one ad isn't in the way, and you know how to ignore it, what is the problem. and i can understand why the free forum hosting stuff has ads, it still costs them money to host a sh**load of stuff. for the one creating something on proboards or forumotion or whatever, it's completely free anyway.

It happened on mine, and I obliterated all evidence of him and banned his IP forever. I am sorry that I don't spend days on GTM reading everybody's posts, and instead, have some sort of Real Life ©. The forum being shitty is an opinion I can back up with arguments:
- No content (21 topics, 8 are off-topic)
- Too much admins and moderators, not enough users (4 Staff Members, 1 Member)
- Too much sections, all the content that is already there could've been put in two categories: Train Talk and Off Topic
- Eye sore (seeeriously)

Here's the thing, kids. Serge is absolutely correct on all accounts. Free hosting means ads everywhere, and limited features. You're also completely reliant upon your host to install the latest software. You want ad-ons/mods? Forget about it!
Your forum is also really ugly. Having images scroll across the screen got old in the '90s, when the web was still in its "wild west" days. The color scheme is also not appealing on the eyes. Finally, you have too many categories. Having too many categories spreads discussion too thin. As stated by Serge, two categories would suffice, though if you want more, I would say your upper limit is 4. Don't exceed this until it is absolutely necessary.
We're not trying to be assholes; we're trying to help you kids succeed. To do so, you need to drop your ego and listen. If you don't take criticism, your forum will end up a miserable failure like Reier's.

Not really. If you call him "big" you won't tear down his "I AM SPECIAL WHY PEOPLE HATE ME" mindset, and this is what you would need to do to succeed. If he actually is morbidly obese and it hurts his social interactions, the only way for him to change would be for him to realize that he NEEDS to change, ergo realize he's a fatso, not "big but my mommy says I'm special". Only then he will want to change instead of expect (subconsciously) other people to reassure him that nothing's wrong.

He does not strike me as the type to think like that. Yes if people with that mind set need to be "set straight" but for others you'll only make the problem worse if take that approach all the time. As you know every ones different so I try to base there thinking style (in this case how he posts.) and try to help accordingly.

There are just some thing that are the same in everyone.
Even in this case, it's very simple to diagnose - if there wasn't anything wrong with him, he would not post on an internet forum expecting compassion, but instead focus on solving the problem.

If I'm reading this right, your telling me that if something was wrong he would not be posting here? Also the way I see it, compassion can go a long way for some. Yes other take advantage of it and others see it as a way to get attention, but also it can help and show that at least some one has the patience to try and help. Now for all I know you may be showing your way of that but right now from what I see of what you have posted to him on the issue, it was not helping him.

It's like having a car with a valve tap (a tapping sound that you hear as the engine runs). Sure, you could ignore that, but it's always gonna be there reminding you of it's presence. Most people who have the time and money get a valve tap repaired just because it's so annoying.
That's the mentality behind it. Why ignore the problem when we can go out and fix it?

I really need to stop using metaphors, because people tend to be using them on a level I never really intended for them to be (I never mentioned a mechanic with my previous metaphor, it had nothing to do with it).
The point is that you don't go about ignoring this problem with the hopes that it will go away. Chances are, if left alone, it will probably do the opposite and grow to become an even greater problem. The longer and longer you ignore it, the harder and harder it gets to ignore.
