Expand to other games? This forum has enough sections as it is!

For once the mods did something right

This forum is fine the way it is in my opinion. If it dies, then it dies. We should not "expand our horizons." This is an RA2 forum, and it should remain and RA2 forum. Expanding it to other games will not do RA2 any good, it will just take a back seat to the more popular games. We should just enjoy these forums while they last, not complain about them like Dexterhunter is. The members of this forum will change over time, they may be more immature and more offtopic. That really doesn't matter. As long as people still love to play RA2, then this forum will survive in one form or another.

...not complain about them like Dexterhunter is.

*cough*

No-one exactly contributes in prolonging this game anymore. Sure, people still contribute by: showcases, posting, and signing up for tournaments. But how long will that last? No-one is coming up with anything new, their is to little incentive to actually invest time in the game now.  Is it not easily to say that we pushed this game to its limit? We can only draw so much blood from a stone..

I can easily see the age of Robot Arena coming to an end.

Tch, everybody likes lemons!

And, you know, has anybody tried contacting the makers of the game?
I know it's a slim shot, but there's a surprisinng amount of people here, plus we could always get other people who remember battlebots or RW in a fond light to email them aswell...

OK, everyone, listen:

You're lucky that their is even a community to this game. Sure, we got people spamming the off topic section with pointless threads, but almost all of them still play RA2. If we lose members of this community, then the forum is certain to go down.
Do you know why I joined the forums? Because I wanted to. Because I enjoy this game.
If you find the off-topic section annoying, then just ignore it, and continue posting in the main body of the forum. If you want this forum and game to die by creating RA3, then fine, go ahead, because their still will be a small number of us who will still play RA2.

That is all.

HUNDREDS, may THOUSANDS of times.......It took me nearly a year with weekly unanswered emails for them to do the 1.3 patch to fix the nVidia problem. HELL, I bought an ATI card so I could play!

So, in your logic, Backlash, DSL 3 & Rocket Jets are nothing new.
My above post explains everything about everything.

RA2 Team Championships 1 & 2: Champion (High Speed Train & Upthrust - as part of Naryar's Not Quite Evil Council of Doom)

Faiiling to regard the 2 major mods before DSL and the fact that DSL itself was just a mod compliation and balancing pack for hardcore builders, you are right. we are taking a back seat if we do, but isn't that what DSL is? A mod that took a backseat and grew into the most realistic robot combat simulation ever?

I agree and disagree. Pointless complaints are pointless, but some of them are actually for the better. (See my rant at the start.)

For how long? how long before the next set of PC's makes this game unplayable? how long before the last disc is destroyed? How long before the last torrent is taken down?
Put this onto your signature if you were part of this crappy fad in '03.

I just say if Ra2 dies out we should keep the forum for all things building games, so we still have a comunity.

I get what you mean, it's a good community here, even in the short amount of time i've been here i can tell that's obvious, but I don't think RA2 is going to "die out" for some while yet.

I've been working on a 3d engine adequate for our goal for some time now. More of a long-term project though.

Yes, they probably could.
It's their choice whether they want to partake in such a project, but yeah, they'd certainly have the community behind them to complete it.

Edit:

Oh really, that's very cool.
Like I said, if you wanted to make it more open the rest of the community would probably be able to help someway or another.

wouldn't it be possible for the one's who now own the rights and such for the game to just pass it on? i mean, giving the right of the game and the source code to people here like Acams  and Serge. they aren't going to do anything with this game, and surely they also don't care about it, so why not pass it on to someone who does care?

Hmmm, good point, although that will still probably cost them a little bit (community fund perhaps?), asweell as possible legal palavor.
Besides, the source code would be of very limited use as the game would need a new engine to be even slightly up to date.
