You should defs look up the Acceleracers series, it continues after that movie, and some of the old character's are still in it.
You will notice they have changed though, especially Mark Wylde :P

Comedy animes are highly underrated.  I'm particular to Lucky Star, Azumanga, K-On, Minami-Ke, and Haruhi of course.

Hang on, I missed this earlier, are you saying you watched Lucky Star and not Haruhi?  How is that possible??? Lucky Star is rife with Haruhi references, "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya" exists as a TV show within the Lucky Star world.  You're not getting the full package watching it that way, I mean, watching episode 16 in particular and not getting all the jokes?  I feel for you.

I know what you're thinking, don't judge Lucky Star on the Choco-Cornets scene in the beginning.  In fact the whole first episode is not a very good tone sette (I don't know what they were thinking making that the opening episode, for goodness sake they have one of the main characters out sick on the first day!)  The pace really starts to pick up after that.

It's a 4koma style manga that it's based on, so it kinda runs like Hetalia, kind of in pieces.

My advice, not worth your time. The forum posts that list all the references are a page long - per episode.  Lucky Star rarely references the same anime twice.  Haruhi is the only one that's done frequently.

Well the plotlines are cohesive, they'll have episode like a "studying for exams" episode and a "class trip" episode for example.  It's in the same vein as Azumanga, a slice of life anime where stuff happens but it doesn't necessarily follow the conflict-resolution formula that most shows do.

I'm more really into manga (Reading FMA at the moment on my Kindle) than anime, but there are some really good ones. Just stay away from crap like DBZ, Naruto, Yu-Gi-Oh and other stuff oriented towards hyperactive 13-year-olds.

If you find a good anime or manga you'll like, you may start noticing the appeal of it - very often you'll find a hidden meaning, an allegory outlining a modern problem, the author showing his philosophy...
