Seriously. I don't get it. What exactly is the appeal of people with headlight eyes and chins that could be used as tent stakes? And when they talk they're too lazy to make the mouth have more than 2 frames.

Someone explain what people like about these? Because this seriously freaks me out.

That's just sh**-tier anime, some of it is actually good and has better drawing and animation than that.
I don't even know if that picture is from a particular anime, but maybe Scourge does...

Don't look at Mainstream Anime, and you'll find the treasure troves I fell in love with.

I'm not a Naruto Fanboy, but I do like stuff like Princess Mononoke, and Howls Moving Castle.

Kujii, why does your profile say you're a female? Anyway, I like Ghost in the Shell and Cowboy Bebop, and a few others, but there's no point in listing them all. The others are similar to those two anyway. Pic realated, it's Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex

for me it's the story that is the appeal of anime. you can tell any story imaginable with anime, at a relatively low budget. Some animes have been running for years with an actual storyline, not just episodes. the whole concept is great.

So wait, what is your definition of "mainstream" anime? If not "Haruhi" I mean.

The creators of Tokyo Mew Mew, apparently. That girl looks to be Ringo Akai.

I myself have never watched Tokyo Mew Mew. I have, however, been subject to a lot of requests to do with its anthropomorphs.

The anime I watch are very ranged in style - from the gory BL Togainu no Chi through the popular Naruto and Bleach right down to the kids' Teen Titans and Digimon. Heck, I've even watched Sailor Moon (I was probably about 7 when it aired on Fox Kids)

Oh, and I've watched all of the Transformers series too.
