Title: About Ian.
Post by: ianh05 on October 31, 2012, 04:49:32 AM

*I don't have the best social life.
*An illness made me drop out of school, never graduated year 12.
*The same illness means I can't enjoy things like take-away food and even basic white bread.
*I was bullied a bit at school.
*Even home life can be tough.
*I don't drink, smoke or do drugs. I believe you can have fun without all those things.
*over the past year I have lost 2 special family pets.
*I came here to let out my creative side as I don't have any artistic talent.
*I was raised with the saying "if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything".
*I will defend myself if my character is attacked.
*I was mad that people would rather spend time talking about silly things then take notice of my work.
*I did everything here for you guys not for my own ego, I just loved being creative with tournaments and such.
*I have always wanted to make others happy, often caring about others more then I care about myself.
*I had over 30 gig worth of RA2 on my PC.
*I had almost 200 RA2 videos on my youtube.
*I wish I could find a place to let out my creativity, my dream is to make games that allow the player to create certain games (based on the title) from a simple menu interface with a variety of options etc.
*I believe back in the day was better, you could get 32 entries for tournaments no problem. People here don't care about the game as much as back then.

Anyone who knows me knows I'm a nice person, it sucks that here I come of as a drama queen considering I have done more for the community then I have done for anyone else.

Ian, just take a rest and just don't bring it back up... We know that you're great contributor in here, but please. Calm down and just ignore those who you can't tolerate.

...You are aware than self-pity is just going to get you less respected in there ?

*I was raised with the saying "if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything".

Then why did you violently attacked Enigma back then ? Not to go through with the many long term problems with that philosophy.

Just saying that in my experience when a typically "nice" person tried to take care of the situation here, they have failed.

-Joeblo : Kind and helpful, then he became increasingly cynical after years, and then suddenly ragequitted, not delivering what he promised for years. and when he was confronted about it he threw a tantrum.

-Kill : Is widely considered as a "nice guy". But yet again, he has grown more cynical over the years, and even left thereafter due to feeling not useful anymore. Then he came back and started bitching about how he had no powers anymore. Congrats to him for still trying and still being active as a mod though.

-Yourself, Ian : Trying to be kind and helpful => community does not meet expectations => frustration => creates drama.

I could even do the same with Click but i'm not sure of his whereabouts. So nope.

Of course there are disappointments in there. If you think everything's you are gonna make is going to pass easily, you are wrong.

It is JUST and RIGHT that everything is not easy ! Because it tests our mettle, and because it strengthens our resolve. Or it can do the opposite, but that's the difference between strength and weakness.

Now for one last word... try not to mix familial issues with your forum life. It's not helping your case, and most people don't want to see them.

AHAH! YES MY DIABOLICAL FOE/OCCASIONAL ALLY, THIS FORUM MUST BE RULED BY A FLAMING IRON FIST!

Also I dunno about Click. He's been as good as usual when he's been about.

Also yes, it would be better not to mention you personal life or self pitty here Ian. Nothing personal since people have done it before and it didn't work well for them.

I don't have anything against you, personally, but you do need to realize that this community just isn't what it was even a year ago. We have nearly reached the boundaries of ways to play this 10 year old game and it's mods. We have explored almost every possibility within reason. For that reason, many members have retreated to the Junkyard because they like this community, even if they don't play the game much anymore. Some of the members that frequent the Junkyard still contribute what they can from time to time, myself included.

I'm afraid that this is the way it's going to be until DSL 3 is released, or until some amazing new discovery is made. This game has lived way past it's intended life span, and is still pretty popular for a PC game of it's age, but it's only a matter of time before it's players get bored and a new crop of players discovers it. Thus the community changes. It's all part of a slow cycle.

It's a pretty common occurance on GTM. I even faked my own suicide at one point because I was leaving. Needless to say, I came back and admitted the hoax.

I think ppl are just trying way too hard to get attentions around here.  That's really all there is to it.  It got nothing to do with being nice or being helpful, it's just pure attention whoring.

The absolute best thing that could happen is a seriously big set of tournaments, BBEANS style. The largest tournaments get the most attention, and hopefully that could kickstart some people into building again.

sh**ty home life is not a free pass to be an asshole. Starting a pity party because sh** isn't going your way is going to make everyone dig their heels in like the last billion times it was done. IRL is le suck for tourneys, but stock's still got potential and so does DSL. Hax Mode can be chosen to be used or not in stock, flails get raped by static piercing weapons (so we just build moar rammers, FS and SS. Variety helps). There is still hope.

Because the game is "broken" apparently, IMO people just aren't trying hard enough to create new bots that aren't clones etc. Also don't tell them to notice of the game because they will hate you for it too.

and to all these pathetic man up comments I say, No I came here for fun not to have my "manhood" tested by people who like to push my buttons, I came here to play the game, share bots, create tournaments and create AI packs NOT to talk about sex, fetishes and MLP.

You guys have lost direction, I tried to get my tournaments more attention but it didn't work and now most of you hate me for it? It's a robot arena 2 forum before anything else.

This ain't the first sh**storm to hit the forum either is it? If people think HX is cool for saying sh** like "If you can't take the heat.. drink bleach" then what real nice community we have.

So everyone's hating on me for:

*trying to get attention for my tournaments.
*because I liked the old days where people actually gave a sh**.

You guys made a camwhore thread for attention seeking that is now 123 pages long! and you complain about me wanting some attention for a tournament that I made for you guys?

helpful advice:

*Instead of ignoring people, give feedback on how to improve. 123's post in my other thread about losing interest is a prime example of HELPFUL feedback, instead of stirring sh** he actually showed the kind of person he was and it's what we need more of.

*Instead of saying "... is broke" try and make a fun unique tournament to inspire designs, build a cool new bot, try to build a new BW (they have barely been touched yet).

*Say thanks, honestly people invest times into things Trovaner made a new arena that gives people new ways to play and when I released it with the AI pack there is only one thanks for his hard work? It does not hurt to say thanks.

ive only said this sh** in recent days as a simple comparison to the sob stories of others. not once have i claimed sympathy from those around me. all I'm doing is proving the point that we all have issues that we have to deal with, but those of us who keep our problems to ourselves don't get chased the **** out of dodge. fact of the matter is, complaining about sh** like this just shows weakness. you say you got bullied in grade school? i did too. but there's bullies everywhere you go. if you make yourself vulnerable they will come after you. fact. i'll say it again, man the **** up.

i didn't give you sh** for sharing, that would be counter-intuitive. what i gave you sh** for was demanding respect because you shared.

No, I dislike you because you're a Nintendo fanboy, and you can't recognise (and very much less respect) anyone's opinion that goes against that. Furthermore, then I pointed this out and defeated your arguments, you called me a fanboy and abused teh rep powerz.

You never listen, and you bitch when we call you out.
To be fair, you seem to have rather prejudiced to whatever Nintendo does. Much while I dislike some of the moves they've pulled recently there are moments where you seem to overreact to failures they've had in the past or excessively display an easily argued opinion.
Title: Re: About Ian.

I have nothing against Nintendo. But, IMO, the Wii and Wii U are horribly underpowered and have sh**ty control systems.

But that is my opinion. Last time I checked, I was entitled to it. Unless I'm in a thread specifically made to voice opinions on the Wii U. Then ian has a nerdrage.
Well, at the time you were extremely aggressive with it. I do also disagree about the Wii having bad controls, but it's irrelevant.

Then stay the hell out of chatterbox and playground, and don't read them or at least don't let the mess in them get to your head ? It's pretty damn easy.

You guys have lost direction, I tried to get my tournaments more attention but it didn't work and now most of you hate me for it? It's a robot arena 2 forum before anything else.

We don't hate you for trying and failing to advertise your tournament, we're blaming you for the WHINING that followed and the drama you stirred. Big difference.

If people think HX is cool for saying sh** like "If you can't take the heat.. drink bleach" then what real nice community we have.

1-It was a JOKE. Yes, HX is a troll. If you can't handle it, stay out of the off-topic section.
2-If you take playground and chatterbox just as seriously as the rest of the forum, you should realign your priorities.

So everyone's hating on me for:
*because I liked the old days where people actually gave a sh**.

Yet again, nonsense. No, you got flak because you complained about how the forum was degrading and about the "good old days". Nobody wants to hear that.

Communities change over time, and you can't try and emulate the past. It's like evolution : either adapt to find your place in the changed community or fail to adapt and leave.

Now do you think throwing a huge temper tantrum over all of this is worth it, and throwing away all your projects ? You say people should contribute but what do you do ? Leave 5 projects unfinished.

The whole main board is for RA2 stuff, where you are now, is for stuff not on the topic of RA2, and further down is a place that you can leave if you don't want all of the stuff that you mentioned. Plus, nobody is forcing you to go into any section, you make a conscious decision to enter the section then bitch about what is in the section, it's almost as bad as the trolls on YouTube that just go onto a video to say how much better channel X is, or the people who purposely go on music videos to say 'what is this sh**? <enter modern rap/pop person/band(s) here> is much better'. Also, there is the ability to block people you don't want to see, why it is seldom used, I do not know.

Different sections have different purposes, this section is off topic before RA2, the main part of the forum is for RA2 stuff. Also, bugging people about your stuff makes people less likely to enter it, a bit like with Badnik advertising his F-Zero thing in every thread. It is possible that people didn't know what to enter, or just didn't want to try to enter for whatever reason.

Actually, the camwhore thread is less for attention seeking, and more for randomly posting pictures of oneself should they so desire... and then Gaz can take them and make an amusing captioned images... oh wait, that thread was lost. But it is really only attention seeking if they just go 'hey, this is me, hey, hey, comment on my appearance, hey, hey, how do I look', or do one of the generic Facebook poses where they follow it up with a comment about their life, for example, a picture of them looking really depressed and saying 'today was so sh**, FML : ((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((' or something along those lines. I don't see how a simple image is attention seeking.

There are some people who actually want to help people, and there are some who just want to see how angry one person can get through use of basic comments, you are not obliged to listen/reply to the latter, you could just not care about what they posted, and not give  them the satisfaction of a response, or you could reply in such a way that just digs you into a hole, and, no offence intended, you seem to be doing the latter.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that people receive more thanks than you let on, or, at least, people visibly appreciate/respect them more rather than needing to say thank you, or compliment them for the good work instead of needing to say thank you. There are more ways to thank someone, or show someone that they are thanked than by just outright saying it.

Also, it is quite contradictory to say that you are leaving and then say that you need to reply to everything, because if you are even viewing the forum then you haven't left, you are just another forumite that views the forum until they find something the want to reply to, so essentially you are saying 'I plan to leave once people stop talking about me'.

I admit that some of what I said may be completely wrong/out of line/said in an overly offensive way and I apologise in advance if any of the aforementioned things are true.

The learning curve is too steep, 99% of what you can do in the game (and 100% of your real-life robot building instincts) is useless if you want to make a bot that's tournament-worthy.  The process is long and tedious.

This ain't the first sh**storm to hit the forum either is it? If people think HX is cool for saying sh** like "If you can't take the heat.. drink bleach" then what real nice community we have.

-Joeblo : Kind and helpful, then he became increasingly cynical after years, and then suddenly ragequitted, not delivering what he promised for years. and when he was confronted about it he threw a tantrum.

-Naryar: Absolutely useless at recalling anything

I left on a good note.. I came back here later and said I'd finish off everything.. then you abused the crap out of your privileges and a good amount jumped on the bandwagon of abusing me.. yet I returned to for-fill what I promised? THAT was when I figured it wasnt worth my time hanging around so much or as you put it "ragequit".

Facts > Story Telling

OK, my first line is false ...I dunno why I said "ragequit" ? You just left tranquilly, and then when we complained about you not releasing stuff despite promising it for years (which is NOT abusing privileges, i dunno why you call it this), you then got outraged and promptly left after a bit of drama.

Criticism =/= abuse

I returned, the topic about reviving my projects came up in general chatter, then you moved one of my posts as a starting post for a new out of context topic and gave it a title that implied I was acting incredibly up myself which spawned a pile of hate mail... so uh.. thanks for that..

Just wanting to keep things to facts rather then "ragequits" and "tantrums" as you chose to put it.. nothing more

Apparently you should have said you were gonna **** his ear because ears are considered to be sexual now. On this forum anyway.

He did actually say at one point in a post that he was gonna do Jonzu's ear. I can't remember the context though.
