There are multiple reasons. The following are examples that come to mind: You don't have to deal with traffic if you're biking on a machine in your garage instead of riding around town. If you're a bit hefty (or not), you might be embarrassed to exercise in front of the public. You might not be coordinated enough to ride a bike. It could be raining outside, or snowy.

Why run on a tread when you can run outside?

Basically the list I provided for the bike could apply here as well.

Why buy fat free when you should just eat less?

Why assume that eating less would be better? Eating healthier isn't necessarily eating less. Some fat free* products are actually quite good for you like skim milk. You get all of the goodness of milk without all the fat.

*Fat free is actually just really really low amounts of fat.

Why spend money on stuff you can't afford?

For one, spending stimulates the economy. Secondly, it provides pleasure (at least in the short term).

Why watch sports all day when you can play them?

Why assume that we're all coordinated enough to play the sports we enjoy (assuming we enjoy watching any of them)?

This is sort of like asking, "Why listen to music all day when you can play it?"

Presentation. Most food colorings have no negative effects to them, so why not? It makes the foods look cooler.

What kind of stupid question is that? We have "special words" so that we can accurately describe things. Do you really want a lecture on why we've developed language?

Believe it or not, foods go bad. They go bad very quickly if they're not handled appropriately. Why keep around moldy/rotten food? Why eat such food if it has the very high probability of making you sick?

I don't know. I don't hunt, nor do I see the appeal of hunting.

Why do you assume that public transportation is good in every city? My city, for example, has terrible public transportation. To get anywhere, I would have to wait an eternity for the bus, and then have it not go where I want to go.

The latter, is actually quite common; many politicians, salesmen, news casters, reporters.
The former, well, I presently have a client like that. I'll skip the psychological details, though; ...except to acknowledge the astronomical observation that there have been attempts at introducing certain fruit trees to Uranus. It's surrounded by moons, is only a debris field, and has toxic gases present continually. Why would someone introduce fruit to such a place? Definitely seems like such an alien and hostile environs would deter such endeavours, butt....

Yes true, but what I was aiming for is when people don't like some/take too much food and then they trash it. I have been raised to never throw away food on my plate. Also if I commented and said I didn't like some certain food, they gave me more and I HAD to eat it.
