I'm gonna get beat real bad if I face Sage, Nar, R0B0, or H@z.

Lots of VS.

Predictions:

Archy 6: Visibly more stable than the Archy we know, faster too, but it looks it's weapon is too heavy for the motor. I still bet he's going to bounce across the arena.

Chuzzle:

Crashman: Messssy wedge and far discs won't help this, however it's a fast juggler and it's the only bot to have snapper wedges besides mine, so still a good entry.

Destroyer WDB: Totally original. Not bad though.

FMLAF: As i built (well) half of this... it's a nice bot.

Far Cry: Another VS. Not bad again, but classic wedges and average speed won't help this when there's so many mako wedges on there.

FlamesfromUnder: Again a VS ?? And visibly not the best...

Haunt 5.1: Probably the best of the horizontal spinners out there. I can see that getting raped by the first undercutter that it will fight against. Might see the efficiency of that against VS.

HoHoHammers: Very well built poker, although i would have dumped rear armor and it dramatically misses a good wedge.

HnM 3.2: Fast, very powerful and i'm pretty sure i have the best wedge of all the tourney (followed closely by R1885). Even invertible. Main issue: exposed wheels if a VS begins to bounce all across the arena, or a bot manages to flank me.

Ice Blast:

Immortal Corruptor: VS, VS everywhere... wait, it's Jules, and we all know about Jule's vertical spinners. I wonder if it's better than Mako 4 ?

MD8: How original. Wedge is kinda poor compared to some of the others, however it is well built. We'll see about the combat efficiency.

obZen: Visibly much better than the RAW one. Rumors of the small wedges being awesome are to be tested against Mako wedges and snapper wedges, however...

panther: Only shell spinner in the competition. And a really average one IMO...

poison of Maatet: AND FINALLY WE'RE FINISHED WITH VERTICAL SPINNERS. This one is original, though. Not much defense though, not much weapon HP's and i have no faith in that wedge... We'll see.

Purple Pest: Only sawbot in the competition. I have it, and i can tell it's a good one... Has the potential to go far.

Thunder God: The by far coolest bot in the competition is by far not the better (not the worst, still). It's decently built, but axes on HS placed that way fail, and no wedge, probably going to get destroyed by the first undercutter it's going to met (heck, even a VS could beat it).

I laughed when you used the SFTW pic, Naryar.

Looks like an interesting lineup. Could be more variety though.

Yeah, i was expecting a little less VS.
Ahh well, maybe a good SFTW (or 2) is what this toruny needs to lighten things up.

I wonder what the line up would look like if I had never built Mako.
I think it would be mostly pop-ups, not sure though.

I know that mine is a Mako Clone... And I don't really care since it still works pretty well.

But most of these do look pretty good, and I hope that I'll do better in here than I have in the other ones.

Jules, Mako was/is innovative and effective.  And you put some work into it because of the inherent 'gyro-effect' issue, which makes it tuff to control (as Sombody found out with 'Smackinator'). I think that was a deterrent before Mako. In this case imitation is a form of flattery.

My opinion :

Best paint job for Wham, TClee 's one looks good too.

Best constancy in bot Building For Reier who had explored almost all of the way to attach big hammer to piston.

Best "grandfather of all bots" for Jules : so many sons of Mako

Best WTF :  Supernova

Best Uncommon weapon : Urjak

Best Horizontal Spinner (:):)) : Somebody showcased its bot, it is terrific !

Best inoffensive : Mine ! i knew it, but also most original AI .

Best shy bots : Naryar and Robosh4rk : they do :):):) want to show their weapons on the picture ... so cute ! so lovely !

Most adapted name for the picture : i like immortal corrupter , also like faceme like a fool

Post by: R1885 on April 01, 2009, 07:19:29 PM
PODA
Can go any way, but my moneys on H@z.

PODB
obZen. Small wedges own.

PODC
Snapper wedges kill anything else. HnM is the clear winner

PODD
Most likely the hardest to chose a winner. One with durable weapons, one with a proven weapon, and the last with a superior wedge. Any things possible.

PODE
Haunt's a scary bot, but Jules makes some of the best DSL bots. Jules will most likely win.

PODF
Simply put, Far  Cry has the upper hand, iceblast's weapon most likely takes forever to get up to speed, and HoHohammers has no wedge. Kill will certainly win.

I predict Urjak will win the tournament.
Title: Wild Robots Live! Splashes and Videos
Post by: JoeCB1991 on April 01, 2009, 11:12:09 PM
The one I entered has gotten under Smashbox, so I think I can get under HnM too but it will probably beat me.
Title: Wild Robots Live! Splashes and Videos
Post by: Naryar on April 02, 2009, 01:59:36 AM
PodA: SA probably didn't hide a snapper/metal hinge/axle wedge on the lower wedge... Urjak and Haz have both axle wedges. They're both fast, but Archy has a MUCH slower spinup time than Purple Pest and is probably less stable (because of huge ass weapon and taller). I pick winner = Urjak

PodB: PoM hasn't the weapons/the wedge to stand up to both of Panther and obZen, and i can see obZen having issues getting under panther, and losing it's weapons. I pick winner = courthousedoc (although R0B0 might do this too)

PodC: Wham's slow SnS will get eaten alive by the two other powerhouses of the pod. HnM usually beats Mako, so think i have my chances. I pick winner = myself (AND because i'm the best builder of the three obviously. Bow before me)

PodD: With three fast bots and two gut-rippers, the fate of this match relies on the wedge. And in the wedge department, Crashman > FMLAF > MD8. I pick winner = R1885.

PodE: Tlee's bot doesn't even counts. The other... well it's a HS against a VS, and HS usually own VS, BUT it's Somebody against Jules and we know Jules IS better.
I still pick winner = Somebody just because i can see Corruptor failing at pinning Haunt and losing a hammer.

PodF: Ice Blast doesn't counts. And i can see Sage's really low poker NOT being lifted by Kill's really high VS, and Kill losing a hammer. Plus Sage's is faster. Might be another MDIII VS Far Cry. I pick winner = Sage.

What is the Arena like?
Title: Wild Robots Live! Splashes and Videos
Post by: System32 on April 02, 2009, 05:16:35 PM
Pod A: VS VS VS VS VS. Heh. Purple Pest might lose, having a single weapon, but may get the upper-hand with his better spin-up time. If Flames from Under and Archy VI: The Resurrection go after each other Flames from under might win. This is rather tight...

Pod B: I have doubts about Naryar's statement. That Turret VS from Philletbabe could cause problems for obZen if he drives like a bitch. But ObZen is a powerful popup...

Pod C: I'm thinking that Chuzzle is more than meets the eye. I hope I'm wrong. Destroyer can cause major damage to HnM if Naryar's bot does the thing that they are famous for...

Pod D: I'm beginning to think I won't win a single round here. My FS vs an Armoured poker, then a Juggler? I know I'm screwed. R8115 for the win.

Pod E: Immortal Corrupter will win here. End of. (Haunt will win too, but will still lose.)

Pod F: I see HoHoHammers as a dark Horse. Ice Blast won't get out alive......
Title: Wild Robots Live! Splashes and Videos
Post by: JoeCB1991 on April 02, 2009, 06:41:23 PM
Yeah, I'm wondering if Chuzzle has anything hidden on it. But I think that it will lose because Naryar has a good bot, and it will be pretty easy for mine to get under it and throw it around.

The only big flaw mine has is weak armor [I think it is 1 mm Titanium], but other than that it works pretty well. I just think that I should remake it with heavier hammers sometime.

[EDIT]

I just tested the one I entered against Mako and Smashbox, and it is capable of getting under and beating both of them. But I feel like the Wedges were too far apart.

I also just built a new version of it, and has a smaller body, heavier hammers, and better wedges that almost always got under Smashbox when I tested it. I wish I would of entered the new one, but I guess I'll save that one for the next DSL HW tournament.

Working on vids as we speak, im at Pod C at the mo, woo!
All im saying so far about the tourny is i'll be back next series with a better bot...
I hope to have Pod C done soon, then uploaded A-C on YouTube, so let the fights begin!
Not very suprising on winners for Quaters so far, altough there is 1 very suprising winner of a pod...
Plus, here is the format for the tourny:

Pods(18)-1st Place Quaters(12)-Semi-(6)------------Final(4)
Pods(18)-2nd Place Quaters(12)-^-Semi Losers Pod(3)-^
The numbers in the brackets are how many robots are in each round (18 for pods, 12 for quaters, 6 for Semis, 3 for Losers Pod and 4 for the final)

Yes folks, things are going to get quite bumpy.
Plus, if in a pod all 3 robots win a fight each (so a tie) the 1st place and 2nd place winners will be decided by who got the most points in thier winning fights (but if a bot gets 2 wins and another gets 1 then thats that, if you know what i mean)

the AI was one of my firsts servo one, (this tournament starts a long long time ago) and it wotks with custom Zone so it is not as effective as the last AI likes the ones of Madiaba or the one i called LazeGuidedV2. it was effective at near range.

Moreover, it has locomotion trouble : the wheels were so high (to have a good wedge) that the smallest grip problem immobilizes it : yes i had a lucky win, but it does not count at all.

Anyway, i had a good time building my bot, i'll have a good one following this thread.

That's the way to learn things.

That Havoking Housebot was pretty entertaining. And I thought that mine was going to fly into the pit when it started flopping around in the first match.

But good job Naryar. And I actually did not notice the weapon until this fight, I though that it was just a flipper.

Nothing very special is under FFU.

I was aiming to get the mini-wedge (under the floor... dumb thing to say). (bla-bla-bla-bla :P) for a lot of the video.

Reier should have won Pod D. He CLEARLY put on the best fight of the pod.

Seriously, S32 won because of a havok and Crashman is the most combat-worthless juggler i've seen in a long time.

And i will even say that FfU is an illegal bot because that wedge-under-the-floor thing is taking advantage of a glitch and against the realistic rule.

Gonna start since the beginning...

PodA: A surprise... due to a cheap wedge glitch. Entertaining matches though (even if that wasn't really entertaining for me to see Purple Pest losing).

PodB: R0B0SH4RK's sheer skill and love for popups strikes again. Luckiest win award of the first matches goes to Phil.

PodC: No surprise here. Just like in beta testing, HnM stands up to it's name and tears through the opposition.

PodD: Another winner than can say thanks to havok. Reier surprised me for dominating the pod all way long, despite having theorically the worst wedges. Cheapest win award of the first matches goes to S32.

PodE: No real surprise here. The better builder wins. Credit to Tlee for not knowing what battery power is.

PodF: HOLY CRAP THE NOOB WON ?!?!?! And pretty easily... seems the fast HS with a  low weapon/weapon motor weight ratio is a nice design, and i will definitely clone Ice Blast and try this. I was right on one thing anyways: Sage VS Kill was another MD3 VS Far Cry.

FFU is alot better than it looks. I faced it online a few months ago and it pwned most of my arsenal.

EDIT: and with the wedges, I am guessing that it did what alot of mine do, which is just that the collision mesh of the wedge is a little bit higher than what you actually see of the wedge.

"And i will even say that FfU is an illegal bot because that wedge-under-the-floor thing is taking advantage of a glitch and against the realistic rule."

Maybe.

But it's only a wedge connected to an extender connected to a skirt hinge.

Isn't it everyone's aim to get the wedge as low as possible?

Oh heck.

Can't really blame you for being cunning, finding a loophole in the rules that did allowed glitch use like that and coming with probably one of the best wedges in the tourney.

... I'm still aiming for at least 3rd place !

EDIT: Quarters:

HnM VS Ice Blast: Heh. Destroyed. Didn't thought it would be so easy.
obZen VS Crashman: aka HazCon VS RRG, first match. Nice one.
FfU VS Immortal Corruptor: One word: RAPE. I'm starting to think FfU could be one of the 3rd best.

1st place semi finals:

Ice Blast VS HnM: Ice Blast was to busy dancing to fight, as expected, it's out.
obZen VS Crashman: House robot gets pitted, LOL. obZen also shows why it's a good popup.
FFU VS IC: I'm glad FFU got disqualified, now, we should add that glitch to the Realistic rule breakers.

I'm disqualified? Didn't think the wedge was that big of a deal. It's just a simple hinge...

Also these house bots aren't as deadly as Mad said. Keeps havoking (entertaining though) and not that damaging...

Yeah, that's a weird thing. I get a Dual Perm 132 and put a tribar on it with 60kg sledgehammers, but the power is NOTHING compared to an DSL bar. Atleast 3x as powerful. (1800 -> 4600)

I might just be a rookie at DSL HW spinners but damn, that's a difference.

Title: Wild Robots Live! Splashes and Videos
Post by: ShadowArts on April 04, 2009, 12:46:19 PM
No - but in my opinion, FfU's wedge is debatable. It's not necessarily the design of the bot that messes with the wedge, but rather the fact that it's a heavyweight and the hinge is pressing down on the extender.

Guess we have to wait till Wham comes back.

Also Wham i didn't exactly get the brackets's form -

After the pods and the quarters, we have 3 winners and 3 losers.

How do we fight now ?
Title: Wild Robots Live! Splashes and Videos
Post by: System32 on April 04, 2009, 01:21:41 PM
I think it's like the first pod for the winners and losers, then the Second place bots on the first bracket do the same. (FMLAF, HoHoHammers...)

Title: Wild Robots Live! Splashes and Videos
Post by: Clickbeetle on April 04, 2009, 06:29:42 PM
I don't think FFU's wedges actually go through the floor.  They probably just have messed up collision that makes it look like they're going under the floor when they're really not.

The only component I've seen that actually goes through the floor is the Ghost Wedge in FB's component pack, and that will snag and pop out of the floor whenever it encounters a seam between polys.  FFU doesn't ever snag.

Some good, if controversial, fights here.

Sometimes my axle wedges on FMLAF go under the floor when I enter the garage. They never snag.

Now what are you doing exactly?
Title: Wild Robots Live! Splashes and Videos
Post by: WhamettNuht on April 05, 2009, 05:23:55 AM
Well you know that a pod has a winner (but 2 in the first round) well its a pod with the 3 losers of the semis, but the winner of the pod moves onto the final.
So then that makes 4 finalists.

Simply brilliANT.

EDIT: I would complain about Mutant Dragonfly pinning Haunt to be counted out, but I know Haunt wouldn't have had a chance against obZen anyways, so I won't.
Title: Wild Robots Live! Splashes and Videos
Post by: WhamettNuht on April 05, 2009, 06:45:56 AM
lol on the use of BrilliANT!
Yeah, that pin was rather illegal, but if you noticed when Haunt was being counted out, MDVIII.V wasnt moving, so Haunt could of self righted then gotten out then when MD wasnt moving, besides, its how the AI work.
Title: Wild Robots Live! Splashes and Videos
Post by: Naryar on April 05, 2009, 07:54:06 AM
Pinning ? Illegal ? That's much less illegal than S32's win by havok...

Plus the fact is that MDVIII IS better than Haunt, and Haunt wasn't designed to self-right easily anyways.

Semi-Finals!

FfU vs. DestroyerWDB: Uneventful towards the end... being counted out like that is lame. Destroyer had a good chance of winning if he hadn't flipped. I was kinda' proud of that one hit of mine that stripped all of the armor and damaged the control board.

Purple Pest vs. Hope No more: Lawl when the house robot rolled over Hope No More for kicks. Then the house robot just got in the way of the battle.

Mutant Dragonfly vs. ObZen: Mutant Dragonfly is one sick looking bot... But ObZen owns as a pop-up to me. The problem with pistons and such (for me) is that if you're pinned in a corner with your weapons facing away, you're pretty much a goner.
Title: Wild Robots Live! Splashes and Videos
Post by: JoeCB1991 on April 05, 2009, 09:48:12 AM
Yeah, I think it is easy to tell from how badly mine was damaged in one hit that the armor is really weak on it. And I thought that I would of won if I did not flip over, although it is able to drive on its back like that but I think that the AI isn't able to do that.
Title: Wild Robots Live! Splashes and Videos
Post by: ShadowArts on April 05, 2009, 10:01:16 AM
Yep. Judging by the 2nd Quarters, Destroyer obviously can self-right. So can FfU, but neither were AIed to do so.
Title: Wild Robots Live! Splashes and Videos
Post by: JoeCB1991 on April 05, 2009, 10:07:53 AM
The same thing happened in RAW. Even though my wheels were still touching the ground, when I was flipped over it would not move.

And when I am flipped over using one of my robots that works like that, I normally drive it into the wall until it flips back over.

...snapper wedges > axle wedges and i'm pretty sure Destroyer couldn't self-right because of the bars being too long and the weapons too heavy for this.

Also for the awards..;

Best Design:
Tie: R0B0SH4RK and Naryar (obviously)

Should Have Done Better:
Jules

Coolest Bot:
Tlee

SFTW:
Tie: WhammettNuht and Tlee

Most Original:

Most Fearsome Opponent:

Most Surprising:

Who says there will be awards? And I'm still hoping that there will be tag team match.

Best Design:
Reier: His Piston pokers are the deadliest ones I've seen. I've been honoured to fight him.

Should Have Done Better:
HoHoHammers: This tortoise never read the sory about the hare.

Coolest Bot:
Somebody: Haunt looked awesome, end of.

SFTW:
courthousedoc: he didn't even make it to the other bot!

Most Original:
philletbabe: It sucked as an AI, but looked freaking awesome while it sucked. Good AIing from Madaba and Phillet.

Most Fearsome Opponent:
ShadowArts: Shockingly effective, and scared the crap outta quite a few members.

Most Surprising:
