PREDICTIONS

Sealion Hammersmith: At least a contender for the top four

Five Ideal Verbal Efforts Son: Way too much going on, but still not a bad robot

Trikilla: No. Not feeling it. Probably not going to last long

Weaponized R.: Not that great, but it could be worse

Papyrus Bike: wut

Conundrum V6: Another strong contender. At least top four material

Tastes like spakle: What kind of idiot makes a bot like this? I hate him and his stupid nose >:C

Disappointment Trike: Decent in terms of weapons, but weakest in terms of drive. I dunno, 50-50 on this one

I'm not at all serious!: Probably be funnier if there wasn't two others that are worse

Late night Aberration: Another top four material bot. I would not be surprised if it took it all

Winners of the first round I predict:
Weaponized R.
Tastes like Spakle
Late Night Aberration
Sealion Hammersmith

Saloon Hammersmith:It like it does.

FIVES:OMGGGGGGGG.

Trikilla:What the.

WR:Still battling of WenXiangLee.

Papyrus Bike:

Conundrum v6:still good

TLS:...

DT:Ok

INAAS:Ok...

LNA:Ok look good.

I love how you kept Wen's font for his name and bot in the splash.

What awards are you going to have? Just 1st/2nd etc?

Predictions time:

Sealion Hammersmith: This bot is pretty tough.  I can see this bot making the top 3.

Five Ideal Verbal Efforts Son: No.  I never said I took things too seriously.  I just wanted to have fun making a bot for once, so I don't expect to go far.

TriKilla: I definitely see the Tri.  Not sure about the Killa.

Weaponized ReIntriverter: Looks underweaponed as hell.  Might be a huge problem.

Papyrus Bike: This is underpowered and fragile.  Yeah okay.

Conundrum v6: This will live or die by the wedges.  It looks pretty vicious if the wedges are good.

Tastes like spakle: A very R4-esque bot.  Might do really well unless the wedge are crap.

Disappointment Trike: This looks very dangerous.  Hopefully it has the speed to go far.

Im not at all serious: At least they're being honest.  :P  Still might win a match.

Late Night Aberration: A bit messy, but this also look pretty tough.  I expect this to do well.

Overall, a varied tier of entrants.  And correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like every entrant used three wheels on their bot, which would fit the name.  Good luck guys.

Sealion Hammersmith: Hey that's pretty good

Five Ideal Verbal Efforts Son: There is some many things going on like R1885 said

TriKilla: TriNoobWarzEntrantTier

Weaponized R.: A joke bot that was meant to sh** on a Robotica bot

Papyrus Bike: Another one of Wen's wacky creations.

Conundrum v6: DRUM

Tastes like sparkles: SWORDS

Disappointment Trike: 9000000 iron spike on a spinner yeah yeah typical stock robot *yawns*

I'm not at all serious: I wasn't serious either

Late Night Aberration: AXES
Title: Re: Tricycle Takedown SBV

Sealion Hammersmith: Always admired Axe bots. Hope it does well.

Five Ideal Verbal Efforts Son: I cant visualize how this bot will work. Should be fun.

TriKilla: A flipper? I'm not actually invertible so...

Weaponized R.: Could use more weapons for the Weight Class, unless there's something hidden in there.

Papyrus Bike: Very intrigued to see what will happen with this haha.

Conundrum v6: Don't scratch the paint job please.

Tastes like sparkles: Pop goes the weasel? If the wedges are good, I don't see much resistance from popups on anyone's bot.

Disappointment Trike: Generic HS, looks slow, but we'll see. No wedge, could prove costly if anyone can get close enough?

I'm not at all serious: Why so srs?

Late Night Aberration: Looks painful; it's the sort of thing I tend to stub my toe on at midnight.

Sealion Hammersmith: Really scary hammer bot there

Five Ideal Verbal Efforts Son: holy flying **** on wheels, just how many weapon systems are there on this thing ?

TriKilla: A flipper with a single DDT ? in HW ? you won't overturn anything any time soon

Weaponized R.: More weapons would be required to have decent sucess.

Papyrus Bike: What in the name of Gaster is this Sanseless aberration ?

Conundrum v6: Pretty good bot here from Hi5er, if wedges are good then this could be dangerous

Tastes like sparkles: Potentially able to oneshot it's enemies, but no frontal armor...

Disappointment Trike: If speed isn't gonna be an issue this thing could do pretty well

I'm not at all serious: And it shows....

Late Night Aberration: Litterally assembled this thing at 3AM in the morning being tired as hell and after a month or two of not playing stock... if this thing wins i'll laugh...

I donno yet.  I'll probably throw out some wacky joke awards like I did with my previous tournament (https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=19070.0).

And correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like every entrant used three wheels on their bot, which would fit the name.
Yup, you're right!

A review...
Sealion Hammersmith: looks good but does good? probably
F.I.V.E.S: bizarre to say the least...
Trikilla: may as well be weaponless and not exactly a favourite to win.
Weaponized R: looks good but very boring.
Papyrus Bike: A Undertale fanboy bot that's creative for something built by a 10 year old.
Conundrum V6: Nice should do well.
Tastes like Sparkles: Nifty and shifty!
Disappointment Trike: Yawn...
Im not at all Serious: my my what have we got here ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)...
Late night Aberration: Very interesting me likey!

Stock plows are made of cardboard so it's not looking too good for Sealion either.

Anyway, I wanted to get the next two matches up so no one would have to wait too long to see their bot in action:

For additional matches:

I'd love to see my bot take on Sealion and Tastes like Sparkles - I don't mind hosting a few of these bonus matches if you want a hand Thrack?

I also built a 5 wheel drive rammer bot for this (would have been the only entry not using 3 wheels as well as it turns out!), my thoughts were, simple weapon, insane drive power... In the end I opted to enter Conundrum instead...
Be interesting to see how he would have fared though!

They're team 1 and the first four bots of team 2.  My idea was that you could just take the AI folder out of your copy of RA2 and paste in the AI folder I provided, then switch the folders back whenever you were done with the Tricycle Takedown bots.

Speaking of which, I should record something.

Well I did just that just now and it kept crashing whenever I launched a match... Something must be slightly tweaked in the versions I have that doesn't like your AI folder for whatever reason.

Either way, it's half past midnight here and I'm giving up for now.

Do you have the smartzones installed correctly?  Disappointment Trike doesn't have any smartzones, try doing a match between two Disappointment Trikes and see if the game crashes.

Do you have the smartzones installed correctly?  Disappointment Trike doesn't have any smartzones, try doing a match between two Disappointment Trikes and see if the game crashes.

Smartzones. That will be it.

Since my return I haven't built anything with Smartzones, so haven't downloaded it yet.

I'll download that when I get home and try again.

Cheers,

They're team 1 and the first four bots of team 2.  My idea was that you could just take the AI folder out of your copy of RA2 and paste in the AI folder I provided, then switch the folders back whenever you were done with the Tricycle Takedown bots.

Speaking of which, I should record something.

Well I did just that just now and it kept crashing whenever I launched a match... Something must be slightly tweaked in the versions I have that doesn't like your AI folder for whatever reason.

Either way, it's half past midnight here and I'm giving up for now.
Yep you need the smartzones, had the same problems trying to open up Redace's bot when he uploaded it after the tournament. Let me save you the trouble of searching the downloads page(it's under custom components) and link it here: https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=237
To install put the stuff from the Smart Zones V.3 folder into components. Not sure if you need Smartzone.cfz or the setting in the .cfg file(I remember adding it but now it's gone?!) also get whatever makes Starcore V3's UI have 6 instead of 3 bots, it's needed.

About the bonus battles:

Appreciate the direct link bud.

I'll see if I can upload a couple matches tonight...

As for the videos

On a side note, I may go down in your estimations here, but Stock was my go to version of choice. I first joined the forums around 2010, but first played the game when I was around 14 ('2006ish I think?), but this is my first time playing competitively and actually fighting another bot from fellow forum users.

Looks like i'm mounting the drum on a burst motor next time and making a Drum/Axe Hybrid that covers both the front and the back  :laughing

Anyway, managed to get a few videos done. For all that care, please enjoy the below! Haven't used Movie Maker since I was like 10 lol...

You using Win7's movie maker or higher? Dunno what settings you used but if you export for HD display you get the best quality(sound sounds a bit lower quality than usual in your upload, but it's only barely noticeable, still good quality otherwise)
Am I the only one that notices that everyone writes Tastes like Sparkle while the bot doesn't seem to have that in the name? :P

Hey thanks!  I wasn't sure anyone would actually do any videos.  Would you mind if I added these to the OP?

Am I the only one that notices that everyone writes Tastes like Sparkle while the bot doesn't seem to have that in the name? :P
The bot's name, in game, is "Tastes like spakle", and I've tried to remember to stick to that throughout the tournament.

Kinda forgot to mention it before, but I did read the rules for this, single elmination sure makes thing quicker and avoids long boring matches, so I can agree with that(maybe if you had direct elimination without losers bracket this wouldn't be such an issue, at least not after the first round?) looking forward to more hosted tournaments from you.
I like to either do best of 3 matches or double elimination.  Single elimination + best of 1 feels too short and kinda unfair to people who get unlucky, and Double elimination + best of 3 can start to drag IMO.

I planned on doing a few but since I didn't have fitting soundtrack and no way to do the YT splashes(no idea how you get thumbnails now, think you need to confirm your account with a phone number? not going to happen) wasn't sure if it would be a good idea, might do them sometime soon or on the weekends.

Yeah you got the names right, everyone else(I almost did that as well :P) calls it Sparkle, makes me wonder if the creator made a typo.

Double elimination(going to 3 rounds if each bot gets a win) is probably the best, 3 matches shows if the bot possibly had a chance(higher probabilty of a successful fight), but like you said it drags on.

Feel free bud :)

I intend to host my own tournaments at some point so it was a good opportunity to download and get acquainted with all the relevant software.

The drum is the secret to the wedgyness... I feel like a lot of us know how to create the "most efficient" wedge, so a lot of bots tend to lock wedges nowdays. I don't think Conundrum has a better wedge than Sealion or Late Night Aberration, but when the bots wedge lock the drum just grinds away at the opposing wedge until it's gone and then Conundrum can swoop under easily for the win. I definitely think drum style weapons should see more use.

I agree, single round, double elimination feels balanced. Single round on it's own gives way for flukes and I tend to agree that best of 3 AND double elimination could drag, unless it was a high scale tournament.

And as a final side note, the thumbnails in my above videos youtube just created for me and you're right, you have to verify your account with them, but when you upload a video it gives you a choice of 3 random stills, the trick is to try and pick one that doesn't give the result away :laughing

Return of Drumbledore? Also I might have found a way to get Snapper II's more stable again.

Is it really that? Technically if something gets under the drum it shouldn't instantly be removed, instead the other bot should keep on pushing it's wedge under the other, however something under the drum keeps it there(bot not having enough speed to push?) after that it just gets ripped off and is gone.

Best Wedges? I only know about the "place it a bit below the chassis" trick, people say that DDT's are the best, yet I see Snapper 2's used and II's(which are apparently the worst but very good if put far back?). There's also been discussion about normal vs Emergency wedges(with normal being better) but I think a lot of that depends on how they're used.

Yeah I knew about that, back in the day it had 5-8 selections, also thought that google+ now required other stuff to confirm your YT account.

Anyway, I think I'm about done with this tournament.  Anyone interested in an awards thread?

Yeah, think this is finished, most of the matches that I wanted to see were done and all my talk probably dragged this on way longer than it should have. Looking forward to your next tournament.

On the contrary, I'm glad my tournament could spark discussion!

Anyway, awards: https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?topic=19158
