Tournament Video Compression?
« on: September 11, 2010, 11:22:48 PM »
For those who are skilled at posting videos that stream very well *cough* click *cough* I was wondering as to how you go about compressing your files so that they load quickly in the tournament?

I don't want people waiting an hour to view one video :P

Thanks, Gig.

Hmmm perhaps. I think it would be nice though if it was done from my server, I don't trust youtube at times!

Try cutting out time here and there. For example: If a minute and a half of a match is just the robots rolling around and not hitting each other, edit out that part, and then put in a little transitiony thingy and boom, you have a shorter vid.
I built that big robot on that TV show that time

Here's what I do.

1.  Import all the video into Windows Movie Maker and arrange it into a nice fight video.

2.  If the total length of the video is more than about 5 minutes, cut out the less-interesting parts until it's 5 minutes or less (5:30 at most).

3.  When saving the movie file, check "Fit to file size..." rather than "Best quality playback for my computer".  (Best quality for your computer =/= best quality for Internet.)

4.  Make the target file size as small as possible while keeping 640x480 resolution.  (Usually the kbps will be ~500-550.)  For a 5-minute video, the file size will be a little over 20 MB.

5.  ????

6.  Profit.

I also record @ 25 or 29 fps.

Input is appreciated. :)
