Title: The Cauldron - SBV

For those of you who like to do predictions on each of the bots, here's a list of all of the bot names.

Damn, I have to face the VS...

I'm actually very happy with the variety of bots entered. Only 2 HS, 4 popups and no SNS? That's gotta be a record for stock MW.

Thoughts and predictions on these bots:

Adopted Nazi: Looks kinda fragile and it's quite narrow.  For a Popup, that's not a real good thing.

Butterfly Sting: Doesn't look like the best popup here, but it might dish out some damage and go far.

Complexertivity: Speed might be its only benefit as it is very underweaponed for an HS.

Crouching Robot, Hidden Bear: While it's a dangerous overhead poker, it is super slow.  That might be it's biggest downfall.

Darts.02: It has some defenses, but it's got nothing else.  I'll cut some slack for Joe as it is his first tournament.

DONT TREAD ON ME: Might go far as this is in the Ring Arena, but without frontal protection, that's quite bad.

Hope And Dreams: Might be pretty good at trapping, but it doesn't have much for taking advantage of that, but the bot's pretty good overall

Long Schlong: This might be a bot that might have issues since it's quite fragile and doesn't have too much protection.

Radioactive Whale: Since the back claw is useless overall, it might not go very far as a lot of things are exposed like hell.

Re\/olution: AGOD might be a contributing factor for if it bounces or not.  But it's not too bad since it's like an overhead poker, but unlike S_Ms bot, it has some speed to back it up.

Rules of Nature: For what is (technically) the only hammer here, I think I might do quite well considering my match-ups.

Rough N' Tumble: The narrow length might be good for wedge wars, but might be bad for attacking the opponent.  Could be decent here.

Starburst III: Probably the toughest popup here, but the wedges will be a contributing factor if it does well or not.

VRI-6C: This popup has quite the number of armor, so it might be a great tank and take out those bots with bad wedges or those with none at all.

Zealot: Love this bot as it's (technically) the only hybrid and it's a rare breed to boot.  Might be great at gut-ripping opponents.  This might be one to look out for

Zoom Zoom Flip-Kun!: It's fast, but very fragile.  So, it's gotta hope for a good toss.

Overall, I like the variety and quality here with the entrants.  I'm pretty much on the same boat as Geice in terms of variety.  Good luck folks.

fun fact: I had made StarBurst III awhile back for MO2, but that died so i just entered it here, lol.
May the best bot win. I'll be waiting patiently for my match.

Adopted Nazi: Way too narrow to be any good against HS or SnS, but there's not a whole lot of HS and there's no SnS. We'll see how good the wedges are.

Butterfly Sting: Generic and narrow. How good it is depends on it's wedges.

Complexertivity: It could beat some of the narrower popups if it didn't have the plow . I can see it lasting a few rounds but that's about it.

Crouching Robot, Hidden Bear: I can see this getting far. A lot of wedges for it to cheese.

Darts.02: Will get 0-3'd twice.

DONT TREAD ON ME: Might win a set if the planets align just right, but it won't get past the second round.

Hope And Dreams: This will be the most boring robot in the tournament and if it wins matches, they'll be by points, but I can see it doing well.

Long Schlong: Will probably win a few rounds before getting slid under by a popup.

Radioactive Whale: Will get 0-3'd twice.

Re\/olution: Sucks against HS. :( I should do well against the popups though.

Rules of Nature: It's performance relies almost entirely in how good it's wedges are. Won't win against ant of the VS either.

Rough N' Tumble: Kind of like H&D but worse. Higher weapon HP though, but that's cancelled out by how narrow it is.

Starburst III: Generic. Wedges are a bit too short, so it automatically loses against the long narrow wedged bots.

VRI-6C: Depends on how good the wedges are.

Zealot: Too many popups for it to do it's job, a real shame.

Zoom Zoom Flip-Kun!: Standard 090901 memebot. It'll either suck or get to the finals.

yo mr. AS i was gonna build the EXACT same idea as you (with razors though) but the axles AGOD made it too sketchy. Then I tried a drum design but ran into some other issues. Woulda been funny to see two of the same bot though.

loving the emergence of "stiltz" bots ;)

i'll probably lose to anything with a double wedge. we'll see, i tried to keep the irons really close to the ground to protect against popups.

this guy knows whats up

Darts.02: Will get 0-3'd twice.

Radioactive Whale: Will get 0-3'd twice.

Well they are going to fight each other, so you are WRONG.

Not gonna lie; I was expecting Darts to lose from the get go, so
Darts.02: Will get 0-3'd twice.
Is probably how I'd put it's chances too.
I'm not too familiar with what popups are, so chances are Darts is ridiculously weak to them. After all, it started life as an IRL bot (was gonna upload it to my stock showcase alongside the lightweight Darts.01 but didn't want to give away the entry) that I modified to be... Slightly more resiliant to not dying instantaneously? I'm not sure where I was going with it. Ehh, at least I can learn what works and what doesn't from this.

I'm not very knowledgable on what's likely to win, but I will say that Hope and Dreams, Zealot, and VRI-6C all look particularly vicious.

Good luck to everyone else and rip in pepsi, Darts.
Title: Re: The Cauldron - SBV
Post by: Badnik96 on March 29, 2016, 10:43:14 PM
It's ok, Joelu. Getting annihilated in a tournament is the first step to getting good.

Anyway, here's (in my opinion) the robots from best to worst:

Re\/olution
Zealot
Hope and Dreams
Crouching Robot Hidden Whatever
VRI-6C
Rules of Nature
Long Schlong
StarBurst III
Adopted Nazi
Butterfly Sting
DON'T TREAD ON ME
Zoom Zoom Flip-Kun
Rough N' Tumble
Complexertivity
Darts.02
Radioactive Whale

I'm a little pissed I waited so long to enter because I think my entry would probably be in the top half.

Woden. after i release ASAI 1.0 it will very likely be moved to another team, reskinned, and renamed, but its cool for now. DSA, hpz drive, 6 razors and 2 blacks.

Round 1 Predictions (odds in bracket):

VRI-6C vs. Darts .02 (9.5-0.5)
Darts .02 has no defense against popups whatsoever so it's a free fight for VRI-6C.

Rules of Nature vs. Radioactive Whale (9-1)
If Radioactive Whale's wedges are somehow better than RoN's then it may win, otherwise free fight.

Adopted Nazi
vs. Zealot (7-3)
The only way Zealot can win is if Adopted Nazi misses the first boxrush.

Zoom-Zoom Flip Kun! vs. Rough N' Tumble (5-5)
A total wedge war, can't predict this because wedges are unpredictable.

DONT TREAD ON ME vs. Hopes and Dreams (4.5-5.5)
Similar to above, but Hopes and Dreams have a slight advantage since if DON'T TREAD ON ME can't OOTA it on the first flip then it's wedges are gonna be total crap (fun fact : if you fire your main wedges then they'll lose all of their pressure and be horrible till your bot gets raised off the ground)

Long Schlong vs. Crouching Robot, Hidden Bear (6-4)
Crouching Robot, Hidden Bear's weapons are just gonna suicide against the VS.

Complexity vs. Re\/olution (4-6)
Unless Complexity veers to the side then it'll just gonna get smashed by ReVolution.

Starburst III vs. Butterfly Stink (4.5-5.5)
Also a total wedge war, but I have a sneaking suspicion that Butterfly Stink's gonna slide right in the middle of Starburst 3.......

Long Schlong is my favourite but I boldly predict Butterfly Sting to win. Also if Geice still wants music suggestions, video game boss themes work well. Here are a few specific ones:

...****. I've realized something verrrrry bad for me.

The Darts in the tournament splash image has only 1 razor on the end of each extender. Meaning the robot I sent was Darts.02 1.0. The robot I was supposed to send was Darts.02 1.1, as I realized the robot initially had glaring weaknesses that needed to be addressed (the extender could easily be knocked off as it clipped through the plow, causing Darts to lose all means of attack.)

(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/89196I Screwed Up.jpg)

Doesn't look like that big of a difference, but Darts preformed far better when its weapon was't broken off almost instantly.
When I got around to sending the robot, I forgot that I saved the crap version of Darts as well as the one I wanted to enter. As I put a version number on all of my .bot files, I looked for "DARTS.02 1.0" and sent that.

So due to my own incompetence, A weak and easy to beat version of Darts.02 is in the tournament as opposed to one that isn't as bad.
I'm sorry for posting this, I shouldn't really be whining if it was my own stupid mistake. I just wanna put it out there that the Darts that was gonna be in the tournament isn't as sh** as the one that is in the tournament.

Still very bloody frustrating that it's even more sh** thanks to me. I mean, 1.0 was an embarrasment. And I entered it into a tournament.

EDIT: Oh, look what I found.
I'd enter, but I'm rather new to the forums and RA2 in general. I'd probably end up entering an embarrassment of a robot.
Fulfilled my own goddamn prophecy.

Sorry, wasn't trying to direct any anger towards anyone. Just quite frustrated with myself.

Now I can gauge how well the other version would've done. As S_M said, the other version wouldn't have helped it's matchups, so I'm guessing Darts is gonna lose.

The production involved is really good! Two things I noticed were that the first match tricked me into turning my speakers up but the in-game sound was really loud compared to the music, and sometimes the bot splashes passed by a bit too quickly.

Hope you find a way to fix those lag (framerate?) issues.

I'm not really sure what's causing it.  It's not the recording software though, because my RA2 has the occasional stutter even when I'm not recording.

It might have something to do with RA2 having V-Sync when you play in fullscreen but I'm sure if that actually matters.

edit: just launched a few other games, they all have the same lag/stutter so it's something on my end and RA2's

Round 1 of the losers bracket is up

My bad on the FPS counter on the top right, I'm recording in windowed mode to see if it helps reduce the lag. I've removed it for all future matches. A few of the R2 winners bracket matches may have the FPS counter in the corner though.

Oh. That's not what happened when I tested it, but ok.
Regardless, you see how the red extender goes through the plow? That's the main reason why it's worse. The extender got damaged very easily, causing Darts' weaponry to fall off which made him lose its means of attack very early on in its test fights. The extenders on 1.1 are shorter, and only the razors clip through the plow, as intended.
Also, 1.0 has these razors close to the robot's chassis that don't hit anything. They were moved on 1.1, so it can potentially hit with more razors and can have backup razors in case the main ones are broken off. Having 2 razors at the end of the tribar honestly didn't seem to hinder it in any way.

I mean, if it does hinder it, then I've earned my title of 'noob builder' but I noticed a significant increase in points which gave the message to me that Darts was doing more damage.

For my sake, I hope Complexertivity gets sent to losers.
Nothing personal, the bot is great and if it wins, it deserves it, but a popup is an instant loss for me.

Comperplexitivity is a HS, what do you mean?

I may win using my power from the god himself Razor Guy.

It's less "who do I want to win" and more "how do I want Darts to die".
Either way, I'll have "Only Time" playing while I watch Loser's round 2 when it gets uploaded.
1 like = 1 respect = 3 prayer for darts

For those of you wondering why Geice rejected my first entry, here's why :
I'm sorry to say, but I'm going to have to reject your bot on the suspicion of BFE.

I find that the extender stacked inside of the anchor to not be possible no matter which attachment point I used. They are also too close to the zteks to attach.

The first razor will not attach in the position that is shown and I have never seen two razors perfectly aligned on the same extender. You also showcased the robot with said razors improperly aligned.

I would prefer that you send another bot. However, if you can prove that no illegal methods were used, I would allow and accept your bot.

not trying to sound like an ass, I just question if your robot is technically legal.

Of course I BFEd them do you think I'd waste 4 hours trying to get lucky ?
(Fun fact : Even if you use movepixel it's never guaranteed that you'll be able to land hard stacks like 2 blacks + CB or a SnapperII exostack)

remember kids: if you are going to bfe, at least do something that is possible in the botlab.

sooo how did you do it then
do you think I'd waste 4 hours trying to get lucky ?
with stock you gotta do that sometimes
not resort to bfe lol
the things he did wouldn't be even possible without bfe lmao

In the end it didn't matter anyway as making the chassis slightly bigger to fit the SnapperII was way lighter than BFEing the extenders

i know
but he obviously found a solution
lmao
he built it with the achor at 0 degrees, then bfe'd it to a 90 degree anchor. doubt most people would have caught it since most people know nothing about stock

if i did the same thing in ironforge or dsl with a component that doesn't fit, would you say it's alright?

BFE that's possible in the bot lab is kind of accepted as you can't really tell it's been done.
In this case it clearly wasn't possible.

I don't condone its use. But I also understand why people use it in stock (and I'd hunch that plenty of people use it) since it takes an eternity to stack/axle load/etc things that you could add quicker with bfe and would look exactly the same.
you don't really have the same problem in DSL/IF because you can build robots much quicker in those.

i don't think you get what i'm trying to say, what gauche did is IMPOSSIBLE to do legally in the botlab. the only way to build his bot is with either bfe or aam. His bot could not be built legally at all.

as long as the end result is indistinguishable from a legitimate bot, i really don't care if BFE is used. GS's is not, and that's why i have issue with it.

if people want to use bfe to stack their blacks, then go ahead, i doubt anybody really cares.

eh. I could see maybe using hax mode to stack blacks, cause that's at least semi-legit, but I will never condone BFE

I don't condone BFE either, but until someone finds a way to accurately catch those who do it, it's just something we're going to have to accept and live with.

I would prefer a new thread be started if we're going to start debating on the legality of BFE.

Losers Bracket Final is now up.

If you guys have any bonus matches that you would like to see, then post your requests. the only rules i have are that I won't be doing any re-matches with 16 main entrants, and any "vs the world" matches will be BO1.

Aside from that, post whatever you want, I'll try to do as many requests as I can.

Right now I'm planning on doing a few matches with Joelu's updated darts, and Badnik's late entry.
