Starcore HW Display Tournament
« on: November 01, 2013, 04:10:54 PM »
I finally have software for it and I don't have to make the bots!

Here's the bracket. I removed Flying Sheep for being a Trinity Spinner, and Shedenator and Battlebox because they kind of sucked. Best of 3 matches in the Combat Arena, hazards disabled.

EDIT: First 16 battles done, editing into videos soonish.

Apart from the weird shifting barrier, I think the quality looks quite good.

Here's 3 more.

From now on, I'm going to do 4 videos a post to try and stop myself from racking up multiple posts.

Feedback wanted please.

Thank you for doing a video presentation of the various HW Starcore bots. I look forward to watching in a modern context. When we started this, there was little or no YouTube for example.

I understand removing Flying Sheep. We put it in at the time to show something that was very new (back then) and to show off the technology for people that had not encountered in online matches (a key goal of the Starcore pack was showing what you might encounter in stock fights online).

I would say Shedenator is yes rather asymmetrical but I would think would beat bots like Time Pixie.

Battlebox was designed as a visual show off and for arenas with push off and into pits options which I agree does not match this enclosed no hazards arena.

Don't forget, what 'sucks' in one arena type can be awesome on another type.

It was tough making the cuts but I eventually did away with the semi-joke bot and the art bot. It's not so much that the bots suck (as they'd easily beat 2 stock bots together), but that they pale in comparison to the other 64 that made the cut. I kind of phrased it wrong when I said it.

I don't have the time to watch all these videos, but if you update the brackets with each match I'll definitely be following this.

I'll do a bracket update for the first half now.. Just finished filming the second half and there's quite a few surprises. One of the Anti Epic vs 1337 Speek 2.0 matches is one of the best I've ever seen.

EDIT: Bracket up. Scores not updated though.

JS, the first fight between 1337 Speek 2.0 and Anti Epic is awesome.
