Thanks very much to Reier for the arena skin/RIP logo

SPLASH
It's HERE. (https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/85645RIP%20splash.png)
Sorry for the lack of flashy presentation with this, I've always kinda sucked at that :3

Spoilers are in white spoiler tags (:P) underneath the match description.
Winner's Bracket
ROUND 1
Battle 1 - Badnik96 vs Craaig vs Reier - **** (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5liyXzzSH0)
A good match and a great way to kick RIP off! And yes, I suck at strengths/weaknesses.
Battle 2 - 123savethewhales vs R1885 vs Urjak - **** (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEsA6n8K15Y)
A quick match, but nonetheless very exciting!
Battle 3 - JoeBlo vs Pwnator vs Thyrus - *** (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfaEzukr7g0)
A bit more drawn out than the last match, and I'm sure one of the contestants will be having a pure 'FUUUU-' moment...
Battle 4 - Doomkiller vs Jack Daniels vs The Ounce - *** (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEpu9JupqWE)
A pop-up, a gut ripping VS and a poker. Good match but... the outcome could be predicted. Most of this match is in double-speed as recommended by Reier. It looks alright :P
Battle 5 - Condor33 vs STC vs Trumpetguy - *** (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBibiKB2BCs)
Seems one sided... then turns on it's head. Another FUUU- moment, I think
Battle 6 - 090901 vs Clickbeetle vs TriTon - *** (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UUVtbzGYnL8)
Lots of shell spinner action here, although one contestant won't be happy with what his robot does :P
Battle 7 - Naryar vs Rusty vs Somebody - ** (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSCaN2Fe6pA)
Slightly tedious match - lots of circles. Best moment is definately at the start!
Battle 8 - Jonzu95 vs Man Manu vs Rusty - **** (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQao89xnpx4)
A good match, with another surprise!

ROUND 2
Battle 1 - Reier vs Urjak - **** (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Q_FyWZFh_0)
Quick but very action packed. Could go either way!
Battle 2 - Pwnator vs The Ounce - ***** (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOk7KCiLynI)
I personally really like this match, hence the 5*. Suspense, drama, and action all in the space of a minute or so! There's a few good camera shots here too :P
Battle 3 - Click vs STC - **** (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9P6foUTHTi8)
I don't know what to say anymore.
Battle 4 - Jonzu95 vs Naryar - *** (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHJzN_gWcrg)
More circles? XD

Semi FinalsSemi Final 1 - STC vs Urjak - ***** (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2oxsjqmIbos)
Lots of action here, both bots could've won this!
Semi Final 2 - Naryar vs Pwnator - ***** (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXvgQF9fA_A)
Another 5* match, this one doesn\'t even need the double speed!

Grand Final
Pwnator vs Urjak - ***** (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xBozzX9pxrg)
A great match with robots flying all over the place! A fitting end to the Winner's Bracket

Yay, might win my first round! Also your tourney speed is immense. Yesterday entries closed and today you have the splash and brackets. Possibly shortest time between deadline and splash is tourney history. Well done indeed!

interesting ...

Thyrus and Pwn

good news is neither has top armour :-D

give thumbs up to Thyrus for something nice and visually different

pwnator may give me problems.. lucky Codebreaker has a smartzone under the wedges so if a robot goes under its not coming out the other side in one piece :P

good showing from everyone I think the Sheck Spinners will give me the most trouble in this tournament, including clicks work of art lol, there just wasnt a whole lot I could do to codebreaker to combat them

It's good to see you guys all seeming so enthused :D

And thanks MM :P

Personally, I'm not fancying my chances, but I get to make the tourney and watch it unfold, so I'm not complaining :P

Predikshuns!

Four Legged Johnny - Circle of Thorns III minus the flails. A bot to watch out for.

Sunrise - A scaled-down Pyrotechnic Display. Worried about the drive, though.

Dance of the Freaky Circles - Dunno if they are NPCs or NPCFs, but it should do decently.

Megawhirl V - Would be terrifying if it's wedgy enough.

Totally Not Iron Spaghetti - Gah. D:

Calypso - Cute, but sadly that's about it. :(

Razor Storm - Dunno how this bot will fare, but I like it.

Falchion - If the wedge works, it might pull off a surprise win or two.

Code Breaker - If it can solve System Flailure's stability problems, then beware.

BioShock - Wedges don't stick out much, but might be a nuisance to shell spinners.

Why yo teef so big? - Main menu can totally build good bots if he wants to. It should
have a good run.

Blade Barrier - Yay anti-shell! <3 <3 <3

Paper Cut 3 - It's not wedgy enough to beat all of the bots in NAR AI, but if bots get above it, PC3 can be a major pain in the butt.

BLADE.EXE - I don't think a 259 disc is enough for a MW, but it won't matter that much if it's wedgy.

Cadet - Fast, wedgy and destructive. PA skirts = <3

Ripterra Returns - WHY IS THE CHASSIS STILL SO BIG >:E

Paraponera - Dunno how many razors it packs, but it should still be a pain in the butt for the shell.

Dirt Devil 4 - Awesome design, not enough weapons. Too bad. :(

Desperation - It would've been a whole lot better as a popup. It should act fast or the weapon extenders would go bye-bye.

Nero 1.5 - I hope it doesn't pull off a Rage III. XD

Vertical Impulse - Very powerful, but might be too powerful for its own good.

Cute FTW :P
I'm hoping it may be able to surprise a few people though (:

Oh and Falchion has 2 vertical discs that spin upwards - it tends to work as a good gut-ripper, while the vlad spikes hold the opponent there.

Thanks Joe.
I like Code Breaker but I said it already in your SC =D

Prediction:

1 Reier
2 Urjak
3 Pwnator
4 Doomkiller
5 Trumpedguy
6 Click
7 Somebody
8 Man Manu

Edit:

Pwn... I realized that i should`ve made a spinner instead  of that hammer-thing

Predictions for round 1

1) Badnik could do well here but I think both bots are capable of giving it grief, I think Reier will take out this round

2) things could backfire for urjak with 2 VS's, overturning them and they could take out the bursts but if its lucky I think it will win via double oota

3) my fight :P its almost like rock paper scissors, Pwnator will find it hard to be Thyrus, Thyrus will find it hard to beat me, and I will find it hard to beat Pwnator, I may win if a get a couple of good shots to the top... it only takes a few

4) hard to really say, I would say DK but ounce is awkward to be hit for that design but DK chassis is hard to be hit also... I think I will just wait and watch this one :-D

5) On the basis of the last time I saw a DSL Rammer vs Flail SS fight.. the flail bot lost via havok

6) Triton doesnt have the best weapon set up to fight Sheck Spinners, I have faith (no pun intended) in Click :-D

7) rusty will have a quick death in this match :P the speed of naryar will be the deciding factor here

8) I will say Man Manu here, if Jonzu gets under MM the extenders block any real damage

:-D

Hopefully he wont, my bot has pretty good wedges.

Predictions!

Four Legged Johnny: Circle of Thorns II clone. Should do decent... it might win it's first fight.
Second Sunrise: Very well built and the best VS in the tournament. Obviously it can beat Ribbs's bot, but now can Urjak send it OOTA ?
DOTFC: Meh. It's pretty much average. Insufficient drive for a SnS and if a popup gets under it it's pretty much toast (especially with the 400 HP Mags)
Megawhirl V: Weapons with normals = bad. It looks cool, but i'm not sure if the design is competitive against today's bots.
TNIS: Cloning anyone ? It is obviously going to win it's first fight but with very little effort.
Calypso: Obvious weapon fail, but it's the host's bot after all.
Razor Storm: It looks good. It's probably going to have a hard time fighting 2 popups however.
Falchion: Nice name but i don't get that bot. Is that a popup?
Code Breaker: And another clone. It's not badly built, but it has a skirt hinge wedge however and it's pretty much toast against Pwn.
Bioshock: Not badly built as well. It lacks defense however.
Why yo teef so big ?Is that a Little Red Riding Hood reference ? It does look pretty decent.
Blade Barrier: Anti-gut-ripper and anti-flail shell spinner design. It has performed well in testing and i am very confident about my first fight.
Paper Cut 3: Solid true popup. Pwn has become pretty good in DSL. It will most likely win it's first fight.
BLADE.EXE: Ribbs is finally being somewhat creative... I never got good results with that type of VS, but i know for a fact that the wedges are going to be very good if they are on metal hinges.
Cadet: Reier is a top DSL builder, we all know that. It is very well built, and it's first 2 opponents are pretty easy. First fight = win.
Ripterra Returns: Slow and a weak weapon. It has good armor, but heavy armor doesn't win fights. Disappointed by a builder that could have become one of the top DSL ones, but NO !
Paraponera: I pretty much like the idea of the shell spinner panels as defense, and it makes that popup slightly out of the norm. (Would have been better with skirts however)
Dirt Devil 4: Very creative, but i still have to give this bot the SFTW award because such armor fails on a hammer, plus no wedge and an insignificant weapon. Sorry Thyrus, but you just can't get far.
Desperation: Short hammers with steep wedges fail. Period.
Nero 1.5: It is too fast for my taste and for having a good wedge.
Vertical Impulse: And i was expecting a shell spinner... It might be built by an elite DSL builder, but it barely deals any damage and entering a flipper in a tournament is just too much of a risk for me. We'll see.

First round predictions:
Reier wins
123STW wins (not sure)
Pwn wins
Ounce wins (not sure)
C33 wins
090901 wins (not sure)
Naryar wins
Man Manu wins

Post by: Reier on November 01, 2009, 09:40:51 AM
Round 1 - not to be vain or anything, but I think I have a fairly high chance of winning.
Round 2 - Pretty Sure 123STW will win here.
Round 3 - I can see Pwn taking the cake pretty easy here.
Round 4 - Not sure what JD's or DK's bots do here. But Ounce's bot looks pretty good...
Round 5 - C33 cause of cheet flailz.
Round 6 - What does Desperation do...? Not gonna call this because I really don't know.
Round 7 - Naryar wins.
Round 8 - Pretty sure MM takes it here.

Yup... I really didn't want to enter another shell spinner, and I had just recently built Vertical Impulse so I thought, why not? I am not expecting to win this tournament, but I should have some exciting fights.

As for all the other robots, the shell spinners worry me the most. I should have a chance at putting the VSs OOTA so I might be able to win round one.

I'm against a wedged poker and a small VS, two bots that could easily tear off my wedges.  Not really what I wanted, but the wedges did well during testing, so I could do well in the first round.

Since a lot of people can't really figure out what my bot does or how it works.... I made a DSL showcase and put it there with more details. (because posting a splash here would probably be a tad rude).

Best of luck to Ounce and Doom! This is going to be an awesome fight >:-D

Okay, given the mix-up with multi-extenders on STC's bot, I have allowed a resubmission.

The brackets and splash have been updated to recognize this.

A randomizer chose that STC will take the place of the 1st Rusty.

Had a chance to enter this and didn't. Stupid me.

Badnik/Craaig/Reier - Reier wins
R1885/123/Urjak - Urjak wins
Pwn/Thyrus/JB - Pwn wins
Ounce/Doom/JD - Ounce wins (Not sure about this match)
Trumpetguy/Condor/STC - Condor (Trumpet has a chance though)
0909091/TriTon/CB - CB (Like the design of Click's bot)
Rusty/Naryar/Somebody - Naryar
Man Manu/Rusty/Jonzu - Man Manu

First round predictions.

1.  Reier, unless Craaig manage to sneak in a few chassis hit.
2.  Too luck/position dependent to make an accurate guess.  I think when my bot get toss out of the arena would be primary determiner in this match.  I would predict that, base on the position, me and urjak have roughly 30% chance to win, and r1885 40%.
3.  Pwn, since it clearly out-wedge Joe
4.  Edited:  The Ounce
5.  Cordor33
6.  Not sure
7.  Depends on what drive motor Somebody's using.  If it's the locked one, Naryar takes it.  If it is npc fast though, since the tracks can rotate, it would have the ability to climb the blade barrier and cut at Naryar's exposed top at an arc.
8.  Man Manu

4.  Doomkiller, I can't really tell from the screen but my guess is that it's a metal hinge wedge, so it should beat Ounce's skirt hinge.

My bad.  It's really hard to tell from those tiny images what are the exact components of everything.  I just guessed base on the wedge having no gaps in between (signs of 2 angle skirt + 1 strait in middle).

That's not a flail FBS (you mean SnS) that's a flail shell spinner. But yeah, you're still toast :P

I very much doubt Somebody has NPCs on his bot... and Ounce isn't a fool, obviously his popups use metal hinges like everyone else.

Lol I think it's one of those battles that can end with different results if you run it a few times.  Suppose that Urjak was the one that got hit in the back instead of Ribbs, it could have turned out very differently.

Well I slightly modified it from this (https://gametechmods.com/forums/showpost.php?p=66907&postcount=539) by moving the center 2 plates a little bit and I managed to get it perfectly invertible. So I might have a chance.

The hitpoints of the JXs are pretty high and Reier's weapon isn't very damaging so taking out the burst will not be easy.

I've got the intro for the next match done. It may be a few days til I get your match done though TG, getting busy now.
I've been entered early into my GCSE English Language exams (I've had 6 weeks to do the syllabus o.O) and they take place next week, so the rate of vids may slow down now.

ah well, Pwn deserved the win and I needed to test out the Flail bots I have been making over the last month (thats right there is more then what I have been showing ;))

I like 'overhead' Flail bots because of their unique design. But overall they're not very effective. For the same reason CB's was cool...
Nice job, on this one too...

If you're a top builder, you can perfectly mix originality, cool looks and combat efficiency in a bot.

Hard to do though.
Title: Rust In Pieces - Splash/Brackets/Videos
Post by: JoeBlo on November 04, 2009, 07:47:09 AM
originality
cool looks
combat efficiency

well I have mastered the first 2 :-D I think only click has done all 3 on a single robot
Title: Rust In Pieces - Splash/Brackets/Videos
Post by: Madiaba on November 04, 2009, 08:18:19 AM
I like originality, for sure, Joe.
True, anything can be improved, Nar.  And that's good. But there are some bot types that people tend to avoid, and other types that are more popular for tourneys;... all because of their intrinsic advantage/disadvantage(s)....
Title: Rust In Pieces - Splash/Brackets/Videos
Post by: JoeBlo on November 04, 2009, 08:22:49 AM
hey Mad can you start a showcase haha or at least show me some of your bots I have only seen a small handful of yours and they were creative

Mad's response: (I wrote this here to not further spam Craaig's tourney thread)
Joe: I have soo much stuff, a lot of it experimental crap...err...prac-tical stuff. As far as bots, I'm like Trov, where I try out a new design and then see how it works, but once I know then I move on to another new project... SOW is one of several, but since Phil was also interested in the potential of SOWs, I followed up on it. Most designs I have tried are not efficient, just new/different. There's a new design for RAW-2 that may be or not be good; Pys (sympathy to him) and I are working together as a 'team' effort. He's a better regular bot builder for sure. I'm just trying some exp coding stuff to see if it helps...(Sage has been very helpful here too..).
BTW: I wanted to send you my whole game (about 3.5 gigs) of stuff so you can use whatever you'd like for your new game version. Better than collecting dust... There are hundreds of abnormal bot designs in there. Many are un-kosher coding/gmf freaks....Easier than posting them. I started Mad's Mods to show some of these experimental tweaks, but I just don't have time to post these things these days. Duh, I was going to start a thread on Evolution or Design, but I just can't follow through as of right now. People are waiting on the RAW-2 arena, so add that in there too....while daily answering question here on the forum.... So, if you'd like to PM/IM me your Ausie address, I'll send it over so you can see and also use anything in there you like.

I actually got several people asking me how I did my wedge, might as well tell,
1. Get metal hinge
2. Wire it.
3 If it didn't fly away put you wedge on it, if it did test arena then back.
4. While the wedge is down there add the plow.

Great, a true popup, probably the only bot type I dislike.  I should have done some more 1-on-1 testing in that arena before I submitted my entry, then I would know if my wedges were ≥ decent enough for the tournament.  Too bad I found that my wedges were only decent in that arena, oh well.  I'm also surprised how close that match was!
Good match!

Congrats Ounce. You got me back for the doomed bots tourney matchup.  It was a close match.  I should have invested more time in my bot too. More damage from Falchions weapon would have been nice. I wish I had lobbed off a wheel somewhere :P  Good luck in the next round.

@ Ounce - I just realized my wedges were decent, too. So our match basically depends on who has the better wedge. Let's just hope it's more of a R4 vs. Seism 13 rather than a Trojan Horse vs. SandStorm. XD

Anyway, it's always nice to see videos coming in regularly. Good job, Craaig. :D

I don't get why Blade Barrier backed up and rammed Ripterra repeatedly at the end of the match. It uses Omni.py and it does that ? (OK, the match was more exciting with this, but that tactic would be more dangerous against a popup...)

Okay, there will be a few videos tonight (hopefully), and also the announcement of the loser's bracket starting places - and I have a surprise for a few people there ;D
Title: Rust In Pieces - Splash/Brackets/Videos
Post by: cephalopod on November 13, 2009, 03:31:58 PM
Time for the surprise :D - the losers bracket has 16 slots, and there were 16 losers. Including Rusty.

After randomizing where everyone would be on the loser's bracket, I took the Rusty's out, and using a randomizer again, got 2 of the losers in Round 2 a second chance.

These lucky two came out to be 'Battle 1 loser' and 'Battle 3 loser' - Reier and Click!
Gratz on the second chances.
(I wouldn't have announced this if Battle 4 loser had popped out, because I don't know who that is yet!)

The updated losers bracket can be seen on the front page.

LB Prediction
1: Gotta say Razor Storm because if RS is fast like my bot and it is pisitioned like my bot and C33's bot before then TNIS is gone do to OOTA, Somebody will take out TriTon's hammer or the hammer will take out the motor either way something is gone giving Razor Storm the advantage.
2:123STW is the only one without a wedge hindering his bot a disadvantage, I JoeBlo's bot is really strong like he said CB's shell is gone, but if MM's bot has good wedges then....
3: My match, no comment.
4: Somebody is in the bracket 2 times, so I don't fully know the bots.

Post by: 123savethewhales on November 13, 2009, 09:20:51 PM
Lol 2 popups on my flanks and click on opposite side?  Does my luck have to be that bad?

Prediction, both popups will drive at me at start and roughly 90% chance that I will OOTA in the first 5 seconds.
Title: Rust In Pieces - Splash/Brackets/Videos
Post by: JoeBlo on November 13, 2009, 11:04:03 PM
The only way I can see myself winning is if a pop up takes care of click, 123 im not sure of but I think i can take MM

WB predictions:

Urjee over S.T.C. - Unless the flippers get ripped off, this should be a quick match.

Nary over me - BB has a great wedge (according to my clone). PC3 also has a nasty tendency to flank single-wedged bots, but I doubt it could pull it off in time.
Title: Rust In Pieces - Splash/Brackets/Videos
Post by: Naryar on November 14, 2009, 04:22:58 AM
AHAHA I SO CAN WIN THIS

Predictions !

Me over Pwn: After extensive testing against the NAR AI, Blade Barrier proved it's worth as a gut-ripper killer.

Urjak over STC: Urjak's flipper fared better than i thought. STC has no wedge, and i think VI's titanium skirts can resist STC's drum long enough to put him OOTA. STC could perfectly win this because of good driving though.

Losers bracket...

C33 since none of the bots out-weapons him, neither is able to put him OOTA. DK has a chance though... as all the other bots because of the chaotic factor of the matches, but still i think Condor takes it here.

Click i think. MM might take it as well - Joe's bot isn't really a combat-efficient bot and 123STW's looks too unstable for faring well.

090901- With no solid gut-ripper in the field, that shell has the potential to shine. However, if Nero repeats his rather impressive performance from last round...

Reier - Simply the best bot out there. I know by experience that Ribbs has a great wedge though, so it might win this as well.

Well, may I just say how well Razor Storm did against the shell spinners in the NAR AI

I think I have a chance, but I only entered this to see how well razor storm would far agaisnt the other bots

I am highly pissed at that loss because in testing, Blade Barrier fared very well against every single NAR AI popup and here, i pretty much got dominated by Pwn the whole match.

Well, at least Megawhirl V proved itself in the first round.  I didn't think I would win that once the front wedge plates broke off, but MWV actually seemed to do better without them...

My losers bracket match is gonna be tough.  It will probably come down to who attacks who first.

Prediction for the final:  I think Paper Cut has a better chance, but it would be cool if Vertical Impulse could pull it off, just because pure flippers win so rarely.  And as far as pure flippers go, VI is awesome.  VI vs. Box of Evil Noobishness = Big-OHH

Wanna try doing a tournament yourself? Read the 'Notice' JB put up please.
I've got a very busy life atm (major exams) and of course it's almost christmas.
To be honest, you should be happy that I did the Winner's Bracket in a REALLY good timeframe.
But do I see you thanking? No.

He's completely right. The winners went up very quickly indeed, and anyone in England knows these exams could (unlikely but possibly) affect his future. That, plus the fact it's christmas next week means we should let Craaig put up the brackets when he has the time to, not when you want him to.
