Can we at least be given a full bracket with all the heats in text? - Just think that some people would want to know what Heat they're in so they don't have to waste their time checking every time a new heat comes out.

I'm really sorry for the delay, but I've been unable to upload the video to youtube due to poor internet connection. The video will be up whenever I get chance for it.

Except that would be 2/3rds as fast compared to 1 episode per week.

It's been upgraded inside to take advantage of the weight-limit, so if it performs as well as it did as a MW, i'll be happy.

Not really, I've been having problems with AIng Kan-Opener. Plus, I've been busy. If I'll sort out the AI mess at some point, expect a video this weekend.
Title: Re: Robot Wars Series 8 DSL Edition - Videos
Post by: Jonzu95 on January 15, 2014, 06:27:11 AM
Sorry guys, but I have to admit. I can't AI Kan-Opener.

I have troubles AIng Crushers, and all I need to know is a correct .py and the correct controls to servos/crush motors

When these have been sorted out, I'll push videos out for you.

TBH, I'm still stuck with Kan-Opener. I just need the goddamn servo controls. Plus, I might be sliiiiightly lazy.

Title: Re: Robot Wars Series 8 DSL Edition - Videos
Post by: MassimoV on February 05, 2014, 07:42:37 PM
No one cares about Kan-Opener because it's no one's robot. It could go out because the weapon doesn't fire, and nothing would change.
Title: Re: Robot Wars Series 8 DSL Edition - Videos
Post by: Thyrus on February 09, 2014, 05:51:00 AM
can you not simply replace canopener. Dropouts caused by technical problems weren't rare in robot wars. it just makes it more like the real thing. just take any other byebot and let this go on
Title: Re: Robot Wars Series 8 DSL Edition - Videos
Post by: helloface on February 09, 2014, 12:16:28 PM
Yeah Kan Opener is not the problem. He's just not trying because he's lazy.
Title: Re: Robot Wars Series 8 DSL Edition - Videos

Sorry guys, but I have to admit. I can't AI Kan-Opener.

I have troubles AIing Crushers, and all I need to know is a correct .py and the correct controls to servos/crush motors

When these have been sorted out, I'll push videos out for you.
I can help with AIing kan opener. It's really basic. Here's a guide for anyone else. This also works for axes, but not spinners or hammers (like frenZy or Beta). I'm not trying to call anyone thick or anything, so please don't think I am!!!!
Treat it as a flipper. Use the 1st smart zone on the batteries section (it shows as red) fit it where you want it to fire (so in this case it is between the claws) and name it 'flip'. On the wiring, name the button used to fire the weapon 'Flip'. Name the driving ones as well. Name the one to go forward and backwards 'Forward' and the one to go left and right 'LeftRight'. Copy it from Robot Designs and put it in which team you want it (jonzu95 already knows about renaming things but for the benefit of those who don't). If you want it to be the first bot in the team, delete bot0 and rename the bot you want to be the first 'Bot0'. Go out of the team folder and scroll down the AI folder until you see Bindings.py. Open it with notepad. For this, you'll need the RA2 bindings with no mod. Copy BackSlash's or EMERGENCY's bindings info to which team AND SPOT to where you stored your bot. Rename it to what it is called (e.g. If it was called 'woo', minus the quotation marks obviously then you would have to delete the name backslash and type, or copy the name, woo. So I hope you find this helpful, and I know you already know most of this but it may help in the future. Anyway that concludes this.

This is what you get for trying to host too big tourney... I just don't have enough patience for all the video-editing and AI stuff. Mainly video-edit.

If I ever run a tournament again, It will be most likely with 16 bots and no too much video-edit.

That's my point, if I'm busy with all the things going on in my life and still find time to host, then he should be able to host something as well.

It really isn't even that hard. I have football going on, I went on vacation, hang out with my girlfriend and friends and I'm still managing a tourney with over 250 matches in it. You really should be prepared any time you host something.

It's not that he's busy. He's got plenty of time. He just doesn't want to do it anymore.

Yeah but I don't have any interest on running the tournament anymore.

The post you reported wasn't particularly offensive Jonzu so I will not be taking action, truth be told you ARE being lazy by taking this on and not following up.

I didn't know whacking was allowed in the main forum. I don't care much really tho, because it was expected.

Calling you lazy when you have admitted that you are isn't whacking :P

Why don't you just run this with just the user-submitted entries rather than with all the replicas?

It wouldn't be the same.

Who cares? You'd still be running it and therefore wouldn't incur a ban or a point penalty and people wouldn't think less of you for dropping out.

yes honestly no one cares about replica vs replica, i mean people are emotionally invested in their bots and I know for sure I only watch my fights these days.

i mean replica vs actual entry maaay be interesting for some RW fanboys, but replica vs replica ? you've done that for a while now.

besides it's always the same bots being entered... 'tis boring if a replica wins without anyone here to claim the victory.

Oh yes, I forgot I entered this. Funny how the two tournaments I actually DO enter (and this is the one where I'm actually proud of my robot's design) are the ones which are barely updated.

Sorry to bring my curse on you all, fellas ;)

While looking for another job, trying to keep my university work going (which I inevitably failed at doing), trying to hold down a decent sleeping pattern considering I don't finish until 1am most nights, and still keeping my real life commitments (gaming group and band practices) going

Sure, I committed to doing a tournament, but circumstances change, and that tournament ranked pretty low on things I needed to be committed to.

I don't give a BLOOP if I've risen to bait here, but lord knows I've made this point and got shouted down for not having a good enough bloody reason to stop caring about an online tournament for a 10 year old game, so I'm going to have another go at defending myself.

(awaits inevitable mute)

I think I won't be finishing this tourney, since I've lost my interest on running it. If anyone is interested on continuing this, feel free to contact me.

Sorry guys. I just can't do this.

Okay I think that's enough.

Mazakari, we all know your situation, but the fact remains, you did drop out. I don't know why you rise to the bait when you say you don't care about the game. But the whole thing is over now, it's dealt with, and yeah you'll probably have to deal with people bringing it up because people bring stuff up here, it's kinda what happens, I think you know that.
Which follows on well to Jonzu. A good solution was offered here, one that'd reduce the workload to a few videos rather than many. I'd honestly recommend just doing it and getting it done rather than dragging this situation out, plus it'll look better on you.

If the drama gets worse in here, I'll lock the thread until Jonzu has sorted a solution of some sorts.

In all honesty what this conversation should be about is who is going to pick up and continue this tourney. If its not continuing then lock the thread. Just don't start wars lads. We're all different so try to be nice here. If you want to throw insults and other unnecessary stuff then go to playground. It's that simple.

Okay, I'm going to lock this now. Jonzu, when you have decided a solution let a mod know and we can unlock. Mazakari, as has been said before at least twice now, take it elsewhere.
