One thing that bothers me,

5. Robot who wins the knockout phase is declared world champion.

I hope thats for the gimmick of this tournament right?.. otherwise I think your opening a can of worms.. just a warning in advance..

Title: Re: Robot Arena 2 2014 World Cup
Post by: cephalopod on May 11, 2014, 04:22:22 PM
Moved back to Active Discussion.
You'll need to check out the new Tournament rules, you need to get half your entry list size of 'Yes, I will enter this tournament' votes in a poll and then drop me a PM to move to signups - also, as you have 0 tournament points you can only have up to 16 entries, sorry, but that means you only need 8 'Yes' votes to proceed.
Let me know if you have any questions :)

2 other things you might wanna change:
-You'd need to show your entry before signups open so you need to decide whether you'll enter or not
-You may wish to update your allowed list of Custom Components, a few you've got down have been outlawed in most tournaments since (like the Beta Hammer)
Title: Re: Robot Arena 2 2014 World Cup

It Will be ran kind of like the world cup itself with the groups and knockout stages. Ill get to the rules in a second here.

Format)
1.DSL HW IRL (subject to change based on feedback) 799.99 weight limit
2.4 groups of 4 so 16 entries in all. All robots will fight one another in the group so 3 fights guaranteed
3.Top 2 from each group advance to the knockout phase based on the points system
4.Knockout phase is single elimination 8 robot bracket based on a random draw (with a third place match)
5. Robot who wins the knockout phase is declared world champion.

Points system
1. A win will give you 3 points (even if it is forced to a judges decision)
2. A loss by knockout, OOTA, immobilization will result in 0 points
3. A loss by points at the end of time is 1 points
4. once again top 2 teams of each group advance

Rules etc etc
1. DSL HW IRL 799.99 weight limit
2. Arena is a skinned tournament arena
3. 1 entry per person
4. 2 minute matches
5. will be filmed with ZD soft
6. If it goes the distance the bot with the most points will win
7.No glitches narmour, DSA, BFE, etc
8. Only IRL bot types
9. multi bots are allowed (it doesnt matter how much each weigh but the total must not exceed 799.99)
10. two judge burst max
11. other parts allowed are

12. metal hinges NOT allowed
13.Arena hazards on

I will not be entering. I am very open to feedback so let me know what you guys think.

This thread is now a signups topic, the rules above may not change.
You have 3 months, enjoy :)

Dp Shield you don't have enough weight on the judge bursts and that causes it to spazz out. You can either replace it with a normal mag or add weight onto the flippers.

I like IRL, Infact I cannot stand Non IRL, all robots are uninspired, going for the "Razor Rammer" or "Stick pointy things on tribars woop". IRL is how I believe RA2 should be played.

So Qwerty brought this up and I can't believe I didn't think of it haha so if you want to represent a country you can but it is not a requirement.

Uninspired? Really? It's more inspired than "let's build a wedge with four wheels. Yay, done." or "eugh I've got everything I need and I still have 100kg left, let's chuck on random pointless components!" every other bot.

And if you consider BFEing the way it's meant to be played, then sure. Considering a large portion of IRL bots have been BFE'd in some way or another...

Title: Re: Robot Arena 2 2014 World Cup - Signups
Post by: cephalopod on May 16, 2014, 09:17:23 AM
At the end of the day everyone has their preferences, but I don't think people should go around 'hating' other building styles. It's all part of RA2 history and unless you embrace that then THAT'S where you're doing RA2 wrong. Even Nary has built IRL. There is creativity in all styles, people just aim for the most efficient. It's the exact same in IRL, how many people enter bots with the prime objective of looking as real as possible rather than to win?
Anyway, back on topic...
Title: Re: Robot Arena 2 2014 World Cup - Signups
Post by: nicsan2009 on May 16, 2014, 02:57:20 PM
DSL standard and IRL are both RA2 and both are fun to watch and build so yeah what Craig said back on topic and get to sending me some more entrants haha.

Note : I don't hate IRL, hell in plenty of cases I have said an IRL bot was cool, awesome or some combination thereof.

IRL is good for LOOKS and COOLNESS (although DSL-S can be just as good or better than IRL at that). However it's not good for proper fighting.

Therefore I wonder why all these people are so eager for IRL tournaments. It's not like you don't win IRL tournaments by spamming drums (or HS or VS) which are mostly the same designs in standard and IRL anyways...

In all these tournaments, people don't exclude dual beta bursts when they, in a walled arena, can finish the match in 3 seconds, why is this?

because they are large and weigh a lot it is beleived that you have to sacrifice something else on the bot like armor

yea what he said

dual beta burst requires ALOT of battery power anything less than the required amount means it's gonna get it's flippers stuck raised in the air doing absolutely nothing before the match ends

I built one before and it was slow, had terrible armor and all it could do really was flip so yea. balance

Ah Ok, I was just wondering because if you look at things like second sentinel, if you made a remake of that for this it would go in your favour if you got a good flip in

second sentinel is made of pure magic there is no way you can make a bot that tough while still having decent speed and enough power for the beta motors

I built one before and it was slow, had terrible armor and all it could do really was flip so yea. balance
Ah Ok, I was just wondering because if you look at things like second sentinel, if you made a remake of that for this it would go in your favour if you got a good flip in

second sentinel is made of pure magic there is no way you can make a bot that tough while still having decent speed and enough power for the beta motors
magic? What so has the bot file been edited?

In all these tournaments, people don't exclude dual beta bursts when they, in a walled arena, can finish the match in 3 seconds, why is this?
because they are large and weigh a lot it is beleived that you have to sacrifice something else on the bot like armor

yea what he said

dual beta burst requires ALOT of battery power anything less than the required amount means it's gonna get it's flippers stuck raised in the air doing absolutely nothing before the match ends

I built one before and it was slow, had terrible armor and all it could do really was flip so yea. balance

Second Sentinel has just good wedges and awesome flipping power. Also, good AI.

Of course I want the Moon. The Moon is far superior to Earth. And it fits the bot.

Considering I was thinking of entering Lift-Off!, Craaig bagsying The Moon as a country disappoints me.

I'll boot up RA2 and build something for this now though.

So I guess if I ended sign ups now it would be four groups of 3 and the entrants seem to be slowing down now, but Im really hoping I get more entries to make it 4 of 4.

I would leave them open until the end of the week.
Anyways, I should send in something by the end of the week.

On second thought, Im gonna let sign ups go until Saturday. Then I'll do SBV over the weekend. I have a TON of things to be doing in the next two weeks but that will only be Monday through Thursday.

Im gonna scramble into anti gravity. GET READY TO FLY! Entering as either UK, England, GB. Select your pick.
https://gametechmods.com/Robot_Exchange/DSL_HW/Avalanche_Anti%20Gravity%203.8.1.bot (https://gametechmods.com/Robot_Exchange/DSL_HW/Avalanche_Anti%20Gravity%203.8.1.bot)
This is the link. I think the axes will be dodgy, so i will later today put up a variant if that one gets kicked out, but seeing as this is a afterthought entry, it wont matter.

flame bait in tournament threads isn't allowed.

It's not like it's the first time you post flame bait in the main forum either.

helloface got muted for borderline flaming in showcases in the main forum today... he was at 50% warn and that's where you will be !

I am fully willing to switch to either Cyprus Or Greece, because i spent holidays there and they were very good. Its MKB's call whether he'd like to actually enter as england or leave the scraps to the biggest failure of all time, me.
