Haha, I can't help but agree... I really wish I could have found a way to fit more weapons on that bot... but I built it in 15 mins and really wanted to see if DSS would be beneficial in this tourney.

But yeah... if i lose my razors, I'm pretty much done for.

good luck to everyone though!

Edit: actually, after reading the rules, I don't think my bot will die the fastest out of the group... So I think it will at least score 1 or 2 points.  I think II's HS stands the best chance for this round.

QUESTION: WHY ISNT MY BOT USING THE .PY I SPECIFIED?
Title: Robo Zone splash/Vids/Leader board.
Post by: ianh05 on April 06, 2009, 10:51:18 PM
it is, i had to search for the pillar.py file but eventually found it.. I'm using the bindings you sent also. unless your pillar.py file is different to mine (the one that comes with DSL) then it should be working as intended.

Glenku, you lucky one... Only a 4 secs difference...
Ianh, what you do with the AI, which one you use? It was suppose to stop spinning when the enemy is not close, so the bot be more controllable and go faster for these loser house bots...
Title: Robo Zone splash/Vids/Leader board.
Post by: ianh05 on April 07, 2009, 02:55:26 PM
i used the range command, i'm not sure if it stops spinning >.> the ai'd version didn't load for me and you could use mad's smartzones which is what i use and send the AI'd version then there wouldn't be a problem?

i wanted to get all the AI right this time, that's why i said i would prefer people AI their own robot.

when Inf sends me the pillar.py file he uses i can start recording the next challenge. Venko can also fix the problem with his bot if he wants.

bump.. Beat the Box challenge part 1 is up, i need to know if Venko wants to change the ai for his entry before i can complete part 2.

the order that the robots compete in will be based on total points at that point, so robots with the lowest number of points will go first and the current leader will go last in each challenge.

might have this tourney finished by the time BBEANS starts, i'm hoping to have it finished by then anyway.

there's always next time.. your aw's certainly give us something to watch :)

not sure if Venko wants to fix the AI on his bot, personally i think it does stop spinning when not in range but because it's spinning so fast it will make it unstable anyway.. i could be wrong. so I'm going to finish up the beat the box challenge. Inf has fixed his bot already.

beat the box challenge is complete and part 2 is up! (check first page) i also updated the leader board.

next challenge is Tilt, which should be entertaining... :)
Title: Robo Zone splash/Vids/Leader board.
Post by: Naryar on April 08, 2009, 01:23:00 PM
I think i will do better in Tilt (possibility of the dozer hesitating on the bot to take on) and Survival (two bots to KO even if they're weak)
Title: Robo Zone splash/Vids/Leader board.
Post by: Venko on April 08, 2009, 03:23:54 PM
1. Ianh, i don't have time to remade the bot using Mad smartzones... So, leave it this way... No need to replay any match.
2. Come on... Is this some kind of "the festival of Venko's bad luck"... Ianh, go to youtube, load "beat the box part2" and go to time = 2:04 . WTF! I hit the unprotected chassis very well and... nothing. Watch the whole match, there are some others "blank hits" too. Damn, that bad luck...
3. The next round is not very good for me so... I'm out...

Venko, your robot hit an unprotected bot so hard a mace came off O.o

anyone can get lucky in the next round, one slip up from the house robot Dozer is all it takes.

here's the results from beat the box:

9pts- Robotogeddon - win in 0:11
8pts- spin cycle 2 - win in 0:13
7pts- UndeaD - win in 0:21
6pts- Razor wind - win in 0:22
5pts- Antichrist V.1 - Win in 0:25
4pts- Anti-pacman - win in 0:28
3pts- Solar07 - win in 0:39
2pts- PinHole - win in 0:46
1pt- Sadie's closet - win in 0:59
0pts- Jackpot deux - win in 1:00

robotogeddon got an insane time!

it's a very tight tourney at the moment with a 4 way tie for first.

no one has won yet, only 3 challenges completed out of 4. looks like UndeaD will be hard to beat with survival being the last round... i fear it could even get under the massive hw :/ cause i didnt use snappers for the wedges.

I think system is asking about the multibot still on the platform.

And, no... I think Ian stated in the rules that Multibots lose if one of the two is taken off the platform.  Something like that.

Post by: ianh05 on April 09, 2009, 04:59:25 PM
what Jack Daniels said is right, i did mention that in the rules.. however in survival both need to be beaten for it to be a loss.

thanks again to all who entered, hopefully the next tourney will be bigger and better!

who would like to see a top 4 battle royal for fun? i also want to know what everyone's favorite and least favorite challenge was, rank them in order from fav to least fav.

Congrats SD :]. Realized I never wired my bot correctly, so that was why it wasnt working properly even though i sent you the right .py (and the one you had before was probably right too!)

Even without SnS capabilities, i think we all know who is more destructive after the rumble :]]

I like the way you run a tournament. Once the bots are in a couple days later you have the splash, then a couple days round one, etc. Good work on this tournament.

PROOF THAT POPUPS OWN.

...and proof that multibots suck.

And congrats to SD to make a champion other than a HS.

I love the idea of this tournament, it makes us think in a strategic way. (However to be honest i don't like season 1 that much because i was pathetic)

Can't wait for next season !

You entered an AW with a single spike (Probably chicken drill but still). Ofcourse it was going to fail. Stock RA2 wasn't exactly built for 125kg bots.

If it was DSL LW, an AW multibot might of stood a chance. The lower classes are still pretty poor for multibots, but atleast it has parts designed for sub-lights.

Awesome, I am pleased with how my bot performed.  It essentially did what I had hoped... though total-epic-failure at BTB was not totally expected.

Congrats on the top 4 finishers!

Damn... This late-start-spinning fails me again. I'll hope for more luck in BBEANS...
Congrats to SD. Good tournament Ianh... but it was more luck-important, thats why most of the predicitions was failed, and some was have a lot luck compared to others...

Post by: ianh05 on April 10, 2009, 12:25:15 PM
some got lucky for sure, i didn't expect spin cycle 2 to beat dozer in tilt O.o and antichrist V.1 held on for a draw against torture chamber! when i tested the AI it only last like under 20 seconds..

and guys i'd still like you to rank the challenges from your fav to least fav.

i wanna know what i should keep and what i should get rid of for something else... maybe i'll make a topic in general discussion to ask what people think.

1 - 2-1
2 - beat the box
3- tilt
4- survival
Title: Robo Zone splash/Vids/Leader board.
Post by: Jack Daniels on April 10, 2009, 08:09:58 PM
Favorite:  Survival
Why: Because the house bot was designed perfectly to be dominating, but still beatable (congrats SD).  It totally reminded me of Robot Wars when Matilda was actually defeated... or when Sir Killabot was tipped over. Excellent stuff, really riveting.

Almost Favorite: Beat the Box
Why: Because it pretty fun to watch the box get damaged... Next time, make the box have a lot of extenders and useless parts so that we can watch tons of parts fly. I think you should design a bot that has tons of useless crap attached to it and see which bot rips it to shreds first.

Almost least favorite: 2-1 challenge
Something about this round seemed kinda boring. I don't know, just wasnt exciting.

Least Favorite:  Tilt
This challenge depends more on the environment than the actual bot itself.  I'm not a big fan of the tilt arena as it is, mainly because it's a PITA to navigate with most bots. And it ends up resulting in some cheap deaths.   Even though my bot did well on this challenge, I still am not a fan of it.

Hope this helps man

tilt provided 2 of the best moments in the tourney i believe..

1. Sadie's closet retreating from battle.
2. UndeaD using its pop-up weapon to lift itself up from the middle of the tabletop!

thanks for the info, would love more from others too.

anyway here's my fav's.
1.Beat the Box (will get buffed up next time!)
2.2 on 1 (i might change this up next time, maybe 2 very average lws...)
3.Survival (might have hazards or something extra next time!)
4.Tilt (the rounds don't last long enough imo, need to figure out a way to fix it)

You entered an AW with a single spike (Probably chicken drill but still).

These are rammers and they have 3 spikes each including 2 overlapping spikes.

Also:

Favorite = beat the box, the box could be faster though
2nd Favorite = survival, a LW that can beat a decent HW is a rare thing
3rd Favorite = 2vs1, too easy to enter a HS to win that
Least Favorite = Tilt, matches are too quick or too lucky.

EDIT: If you want Ian i can rebuild the box.

1.Survival - challenged the contestants while not killing them too quickly (or at all)
2.Beat The Box - I think the box could have been better but I liked the destruction scattered throughout the arena
3.Tilt - it had the most surprises but didn't really last long enough.
4.2 on 1 - it seemed a little boring compared to the others

This is a very good tourney and congrats to all. I recommend that the next one of these tourneys is MW something, probably DSL.

Also
1:Beat the box :)
2:Survival
3:2 on 1
4:Tilt

Also, are you going to release the bots in a download for us to see?

Ok, here some feedback...
1. Will be better, if you rebuild the house bots. As the guys said, and some other updates...
2. Will be better, if you add more challenges. All was good but... I can help you with ideas or bots about this one. These challenges we saw was... just not too highly varied as a game type, there must be a challenges that every bot type will "fear" and "like a lot". So there musn't be a bot type that will preform well in most challenges... as we all saw happaned...
3. Will be better, if you make the scoring system more challenging. Every round must seems that anyone can go on the top of the list...
4. Will be better, if you keep the tournament STOCK, and make the entrant bots at least MW.
5. Will be better, if you make the time limit of the arenas more.
6. Will be better, if you give more registration period, so more people to join. 8 was just not enough for fun...
7. Will be better, if you use the other tabletop arena. This one sux...
I can't think of something more for now...

I think this tourney in the future should be MW like people have been saying but I dissagree with venko by saying it should be DSL as that gives more variety which will help with his #2 point. I also think, Venko, that 8-10 people is just the right amount for this tourney as it is just a quick tourney not a huge one such as BBEANS and RAW. Additionally, think about how many matches Ian will have to record if 20-30 bots entered. An almost impossible task. As well as that I think the round time was spot on! Long enough for the winner to reveal itself, but short enough so the match doesn't get boring. But I do agree with you Venko that a different tabletop arena would be great as that round was far to quick, maybe a custom made one? Finally I'd just like to say thanks to Ian for this tourney as the amount of effort gone into it was amazing to get the whole thing done in around 2 weeks. Very well done Ian and I hope you will continue this event as I thoroughly enjoyed particiapting in it.

thanks for the feedback. seems like the most popular is beat the box and least popular is tilt.

i thought the challenges were varied enough for all bot types to get a fair chance at winning. I will add more challenges next time.

-2 on 1 favored bots with defense and offense (don't worry this will get harder).
-beat the box favored the bots with the most powerful weapons such as spinners and pop-ups.
-Tilt favored bots with a good wedge (in future i hope it will favor bots with powerful drive such as rammers).
-survival favored bots with good defense, any bot with a plow or wedge should last longer then a robot without one.

i actually wanted to keep it lw for a while for a good reason, this type of tournament is suppose to bring out different designs and i don't think we achieved that and i was also planning to bring back the best robots from each season in a champions season.

i hope to have the next season starting up sometime after BBEANS has finished. if you have ANY idea's for a challenge pm me your idea.

i would also love anyone who can make arena's to help out with the custom arena we need for the final round of the tournament.

Well, looking at the sheer scope of how big BBEANS is shaping up to be. It might be a good while before that is finished (I'm thinking about a month).

I will try to think of some good suggestions soon... right now I am too tired to really think about much.

and... Wow... Man Manu spoke a lot of words...  mostly coherently. Bravo!

I would love then next one of these to be DSL. Very nice job on managing the tournament!

Back from holidays, i rush on this thread :
First of all, the looking at the video demonstrates your inovative and challenging idea and the big work you've done for us. thank you.
2 vs1 and Beat the box were my favorite.

second : well, i've not been very sharp and my bot (solar) did not shine as much as i expect

Third : HS get the preference, and indeed, they're some of the most deadly, striking in every direction.

Fourth : I do appreciate the paint jobs of Scrap Daddy, Venko. and Jack daniels : pleasant-to-see-bots

Fifth : could you share this bots and their AI ?

Nope. I was watching the unpainted chassis of the bot and was wondering how to paint it... Then i realize that looks like a ghost from pacman and so... But this was just lack of ideas for the chassis paint. I couldn't think for some other "anti-pacman" text so thats why i made this...
