Title: RIP3 Signups!

Let's do this!


RIP3 is all about Clusters! Except there is a few twists...
1) One part must be LW, the other must be MW
2) The 2 parts must NOT be the same bot type
3) Popups and Flail weapons are NOT allowed.
4) I want a THEME! Even if it's just related bot names, I want to see themes, complete with Team Name and optional Motto!


Full Rules
1. DSL Clusterbots, 1 part LW, the other part MW.
2. No popups or flail weapons
3. Standard DSL building regulations, all realistic, with no outside modifications. No cheatbot2 components or custom components.
4. Double Elimination bracket, 2 mins on clock.
5. 1 havok restart in matches. I will judge this, and I politely ask for no complaints
6. Unless you send your own AI, I will AI it so that the weapons work and it moves properly. I politely ask for no complaints if your bot does not work how you want.
7. I have the right to disqualify any entry finding loopholes, or excessively complaining.
8. The arena to be used is a reskinned Containment Cube with hazards on
9. Placeholder bots are not allowed, however you get 1 upgrade (as long as it's not overly different)
10. There is a maximum of 32 team slots.
11. You MAY team up with someone to create your cluster.
12. You will have 2 weeks from signups opening to get your entries in.
13. Any non-filled spots will be automatic passes for those the randomizer favours :P
14. 1 free restart if either of your team's bots is stuck on arena hazards (eg stuck on/under spikes) - I will be judge of this.

Lawl no. I'm not sure about LW, they're just so small and stuff, I want some all-out destruction.
Nary did give me an idea that wasn't really anything like his for another tournament that might work one day, dunnooo. (A tournament where you can enter 2 LWs as a tag-team or 1 MW XD)

Not a bad idea, just as long as you don't enforce IRL building standards, then it should be interesting.

Basically no bots that abuse the in-game physics to any degree. Popups, flails, jugglers, Flying Guillotines, TRFBD's, they would all be disallowed.

I'm not sure. I like your idea but there are a few issues I can think of. First of all, what about static SnS (like Pinball style stuff) or SnSnS? They're not strictly as OP as standard flail sns. Also, Jugglers are no less legitimate than VS with lots of teeth like Cash Cow as they're powerful for the same reason, likewise with HS, since they both ignore the rule of energy distribution you see IRL.
Flails and Popups sound like legit things to remove but TRFBD or any other FBD are pretty legit if you don't use flails, and would simply be drums with big wheels and in any sense are probably much more legit than Frequency Rammers or even Rammers with tonnes of weapons.

From Craaig's description, it's more like standard DSL Realism but with IRL bot types. Still not what I'd favour, but it sounds like a sound concept.
But yeah, IRL is a huge failure for actual tournaments because it's not a matter of actual building ability or bot quality (in terms of aesthetics), but more about whether you entered a drum or not; there's also pretty much a guaruntee that certain bot types will lose to others, (see my match against GF93 in BoF 2, where I beat him because I entered a HS and beat his flipper very easily, or my match against Ty in the original Battlebots, where my rammer got annihilated because he entered a spinner).

I'm still not really getting the stuff about Jugglers; if you're going to ban them, you better ban FS, Drums, Disk VS, and Frequency Rammers, because they're all effective for the same reason and is much more accurate to IRL effects than a Disk VS that hurls bots out of arenas despite huge no.s of teeth.

It would just be easier if you flat out banned Flails and Popups- thats the two dominant bot types gone, at least.

And it also amuses me that many people can't seem to read or comprehend what they've just read :P

1) What weight class combination would people like? (HW/LW, MW/LW, or HW/MW)
2) What arena? (Personally, I'm leaning towards something like the AON2 arena)

I don't like that idea, personally, because the lighter of the multibots would be pretty pointless and redundant against the heavier ones. If we were doing multibots, I'd prefer it if they were the same weight class.

Depends. There were a few issues with hazards in Steel Warzone where bots get stuck near the walls without moving much if trying to advance on a bot (that's how I lost against NFX, methinks). I was using a sawbot, so chances are it can still occur here.
I'd say the standard DSL arena is decent and has OOTA capability.

I thought it was AGOD on your wedges that kept you from getting to me. I thought the problem with it was that HS kept on losing their weapons on the spikes, and RPM got one of its arms caught between them. So I don't know if I'd go for the Containment Cube arena, personally, DSL Tourney arena is a kinda standard choice, maybe. Perhaps one that isn't TOO easy to OOTA opponents in, but still possible.

I'd agree with that, personally. I thought he wanted an OOTA'able arena, though, but the Containment Cube's spikes really cause heck with certain bot types over others. Combat Arena's just a box, so it leaves it up to the bots to do the winning, rather than hazards and luck.

I'd rather not, personally. I'd rather have little to no hazards at all, it allows the bots to get on with the business of fighting, rather than the hazards costing someone the match through blind luck when they clearly have the upper hand.

I like the spinning pyramids in it and if the match is really boring then it helps keep it entertaining with the pits RIPPING AND TEARING bots apart, bot if there was a way where you could clog the pits and just keep the spinning pyramids that would be nice too.

That thought did cross my mind, but I'm no good at arena editing and don't want to force anyone else to do it either

Just choose whatever pleases you. I would suggest an arena with enough hazards to be funnier than the usual, but with no game-breaking hazards (i'm looking at pits) or hazards completely ruining the standard metagame (since as a big object in the center of the arena, or the Robot Wars arena).

Of course, the fact that Craaig tends to choose what I suggest him is only a sign of wisdom. *smirks*

Paha, I do take what you say as wisdom, this is true, but in this case I fully agree with what you're saying - this is why I really liked the Containment Cube idea, enough hazards to be a little hazardous and fun, but nothing gamechanging. This is why I'm fully against the COmbat Arena, and don't really want to use DSL Tourney again. XD

I'm against the containment cube. Well, with those side spikes at least. If you could get rid of those and just keep the LW smashing blade and hammer then i'd be all for it.

Just going to make one thing pretty clear, with the outburst of Flamer robots. I have NO IDEA about EternalFlame.py or whatever it is that keeps  the flamer going constantly, so unless you AI it yourself and send me the .py also, I will AI it as I regularly would, using Omni or something along those lines, which will probably not keep it constantly firing, meaning you would run out of gas as you regularly would.

Well this is all straightened out. It will be green-ticked in the next day or so, then 31 slots will be available for 2 weeks. Get ready! And PLEASE, help me get it started much faster, and AI your bots! If you don't know how, it's a great reason to learn an invaluable RA2 skill - the AI chart is how I learnt to AI, I can drop that to anyone who needs it.

Craaig did you get my updated Containment Cube .py with better AI spike navigation?  I just uploaded it with my whole site update.
 
I actually used this for the latter part of Ironbot, after noticing several spike issues in previous rounds, so it is pretty well tested.  Just make sure to give the AI a reasonable radius in Bindings.py.  Common practice is to set 'radius':0.1, but 1 works a lot better.

This is why I've always told people to learn for themselves, AI 2 bots, and if everyone does that, I don't have to AI 40-something making it better for everyone - you guys learn a skill, I don't hate the tournament before I even run it, and it speeds up. I was planning to do some tomorrow, and then a lot this weekend too.


HOWEVER. I did send a PM out WEEKS ago telling those who said 'I'll send an update/AI' to send it in, and I'm still waiting on about 5.

If you have a hard time understanding how much work goes into conducting a tourney, I suggest you try to put on a tourney yourself and tackle all the tedious tasks that are involved with making it happen.   Running a tournament is not all Unicorns pooping rainbows you know?  So chill out.

Wow. I answered this a few days ago. And you've technically broken the rules too - I said 1 upgrade. You updated your LW a few minutes after sending your team, and are now sending an 'Upgrade Placeholder' - breaking 2 rules (1 upgrade, no placeholders).
