hey, Badnik96 here. i thought since a lot of people are building replicas, I thought i'd do a Replica Wars tourney.
-RULES-
1. DSL HW.
2no reskinned, custom or cheatbot components!
3.the tourney will have 24 competitors.
4. tournament will be 1 on 1 battles in the ra2tt arena.
5. no BFE. snapper loading is OK, however.
6.When you send me your bots, send a pic of the real thing.
7.Matches not decided by KO will be decided in a Battlebots-Style judge decision (Agression, Damage, Strategy).
and yes, I can AI.
PRIZES: the winner of the tourney will recieve a pack containing all of my replicas.
the runner up will be able to choose 6 of the replicas in the pack.
most creative builder (the person who built a replica of a bot not many know), Best Replica and the Rumble Winner will be able to choose 2 replicas.

If it was how accurate they where, and with the no custom parts rule, yeah, i can see VERY few replicas being allowd.
If you acctually check the components next if you do allow custom ones, then that might not be a problem.

if you want, you can enter multiple bots if there is empty space after the deadline.
i can AI.
and i can check the Robot Wars Wiki and Battlebots.com to see how accurate the replicas are.

just to answer everyone's questions about how powerful a bot can be, i will test it against Mako from DSL 2.0. if it can beat Mako, its too powerful.

What about a replica of Gravity? I could make the case that if it DIDN'T toss other robots 10 feet into the air, it wouldn't be accurate.

If you mean the blue rammer from UK Robot Wars that competed in every series but always failed, then yes, that's velocirippa.
But for all I know, there could've been another combat robot called "Velociraptor" that I hadn't heard of. THat's why I asked.

lol hmmm I guess we are not talking about the same bot:smiley:. The one I'm talking about is in DSl and it's a hammer type bot, Also I think there is one in Stock called Raptor which is also a hammer type bot.

These rules are sooo confused.
Should be an usual DSL tournament, but the bots must be replicas YOU BUILT YOURSELF.
If you clear up the rules however and do not mess with custom components however, i'm in.

Can we use components specifically made for a certain replica? Like, if I wanted tomake a Kig B replica, and I noticed that Pussycat's blade looks a lot like King B's blade, could I use it?

yeah you can do that. i had a cyclone raptor (robot wars extreme warriors bot) replica with a 259 Blade, so you can use that sort of part.

Well custom weapons shouldn't be too much a problem as long as it fits within the 50000 dp/hp with dp no greater than 300, and likewise custom armor shouldn't be a problem as long as it does not exceed 300 hp/kg. Custom parts need to be slightly weaker that pre made dsl parts in stats since they can have any shape they want. And of course, no custom part are allow to be mounted directly onto chassis for obvious reasons.
Although personally I probably do better if custom parts isn't allowed.

ACAMS doesn't need to approve every tournament, he'll just close the ones he thinks are badly planned or won't get finished. And I don't think you need to worry about that; this tournament looks like it could succeed.

alrighty I have made a decision to change the arena from a reskinned RA2tt arena to a reskinned Combat Zone, just to make it fair for bots that are versus flipers.

IMO it would simplify your life greatly if you just didn't allow custom components. There are plenty of real bots you can replicate with just the stock DSL parts.
Also, fighting in the Combat Arena may make it fair for bots that are versus flippers, but what about the flippers? They have no way to win (turtling is a long shot because the AI doesn't detect when the enemy is non-invertible and upside down).

No, no no. The AI does not have sufficient skills to avoid the hazards. Most of the matches would be decided by bad driving. You had it right the first time; the RAT2#2 arena with hazards disabled
Also, do Lightweight class entries actually have to be of Lightweight bots? Because there were only a handful of that weight class on Robot Wars.

I dont know if you could manage 16 replica builders.. maybe 8 would do better. I sadly lost a few of my replicas when DSL when down the toilet a while ago (got a new version since thanks to sage) if I dont find any time I might see if I can make some but I really dont know at this stage

Seriously? But my entry is a heavyweight, it's not easy to build a middleweight in DSL and still have it both powerful and accurate, especially when it's areplica of a heavyweight to begin with. Have you actually got any entries in the Middleweight division? I'd really recommend that your one weight class be Heavyweight, or you just allo any weights to enter.
Also, maybe you could color-code the entrants on the front page like the other tournament organizers do, maybe green for entry received, blue for AI'd.

Yeah, you better add the realistic rule to this...
Snapper loading is a completely legal technique in DSL as long as the bot could work IRL.
Also - yes, we enter middleweights, but do the original (real life) bot has to be a middleweight?

I might have to drop too if it's middleweight only, my replica that I spent so much time working on before you changed the rule, is a HW.
I'm sure I won't be the only one caught off-guard by this new rule, I seriously advise you to allow all weight calsses, or you might get more dropouts than just me and Joe.

I can't make any promises about staying in. You've basically put me back to square one by telling me I can't have a heavyweight. My robot is about 234 kg too heavy to be a middleweight, trimming to down is not going to be possible. So, I'm forced to now choose a different robot to replicate, and hope against hope that I can find that balance between power and accuracy that I did so well with my heavyweight entry.
Look, I'm sure I'm not the only one who was thinking of doing a heavyweight, you never answered my question as to what class the majority of people were building in. So I'm begging you, please re-open the competition to heavyweights. It really would be a shame to let this one go to waste.

Look badnik, you don't even have eight entrants yet, you probably shouldn't make the tournament any more restrictive than it has to be.

A: I'm having trouble thinking of a decent British MW that wouldnt involve custom components (since im doing this for Britain, as always, lol)
B: Middleweights to me are, the 'odd' class.
Now adays, theres only like 5/6 middleweights still running in britain!
So, i think it would be better if the weight class was to be changed to something wider like LWs and HWs.
If these things are not met, then i can see this tournament going very badly.

I think out of respect to Sonny (the replica king) you should consider doing HW. He has been the most supportive of your tourney thus far. I am, honestly, not convinced that you have the skills to pull off a successful tournament, which is why I have not entered.
However, these experiences are how we learn. I hope you are learning a bit so you can be more focused and prepared when you possibly host a second event.

since the game doesn't allow multiple links, I have to modify it and use only 2 servos. It sorta moves, but it's not very stable. I might have to replace it with wheels or something if I actually intend to fight with it.

Except for the obvious fact that you "cant" even make connection like that in the game. So it's either modified walker system that uses only 1 motor connection, or ditch it entirely and use wheels.
Then again, it's probably better for me not to enter this tourney seeing it's a lose lose situation. I guess I take my steps out while I am ahead.

Okay I made a warhead prototype. It looks pretty good but it's absolutely horrible at fighting. I will see if I can do anything about it's fighting capability. If not I guess I would submit the prototype just to participate.

AI weapons can be used, but not anything else.

I'll join - put me on the backups if you wish. I've decided to work on my replicas a bit more XD

My bot is done. I will send it ASAP. I doubt Crabmeat will win any matches because my replica is just as vulnerable as the real bot. If it gets flipped over in any way, it is out without question. The weapons do not do a lot of damage, but it still can pull off the occasional upset win against some of the HW bots in DSL (namely Pressure Drop and El Diablo). This should be interesting.

by the way this is just an oppinion but the bot pack that the winners and runners up get could maybe have the replicas that are entered into the tournament like mine supernova.
like i said its just an oppinion.

I think it should be randomly chosen like in Micro Mayhem, since judging one's newbieness is not very nice nor fair, IMO.

I was also going to ask how you determine who is a newbie, since it's difficult to judge base on skill level, and join date/post counts are fundamentally flawed (I mean there were LRA2).

just to be clear im not having a go at Badnik's decisions I respect what he chooses and its his tournament after all just saying that it seems to be one of those "grey areas"
someone doesn't get to compete because there building skills arnt as good or parts dont work in there favor like they do with other replicas.
but at the same time it stops people filling up the bracket with something they made in 5 mins
positives and negatives from it :-D

what Thyrus is saying, Stagfish, is right-click the BOT file and find the option marked "add to____________.ZIP or_____________.RAR." (______________=insert bot name here!) then go to the GTM file uploader and upload the bot, then post the link in a PM to me.

It's probably too late. I mean, Badnik's already AIed all of the robots, which must've taken him a long time. He can't do it immediately, so I think it'd be wise to keep the one you've already sent.
