Title: RA2 World Championships
Post by: helloface on February 21, 2014, 05:35:09 PM
Signups end March 7th

Since I've been feeling quite useless lately, I'm going to give this another shot. This theme will be like the Robot Wars International series, but with modified brackets and rules. In this tournament, you must represent your own country and put its flag on your robot (there are a few flag packs in the downloads area). The signups will be split into three divisions: USA, Britain, and Other. Each signups category will have a maximum of 8 spots. If you're British, you must have both the Union Jack and the specific country (i.e. Ireland, England, Scotland) flag. You may enter a replica as your main robot.

After the three-week signup period has ended, there will be another one-week signup period specifically for replicas. If you have already entered, you're still eligible to enter a replica. I will allow an unlimited amount of replicas, from which I will pick the most well done replicas. You are allowed to enter as many replicas as you would like, so long as they correspond to the correct signups category.

- This tournament will be in DSL 2.1
- I will be AIing, but I have the right to ask you do do it yourself
- BFE and re-skinning are allowed.
- Nobody can be entered until a bot is received and accepted
- The weight class will be Heavyweight
- Now that I better understand the IRL building style, it will be much more strongly enforced than before
- The only glitch allowed is the small chassis glitch.
- Arena hazards will be on
- Bots must pass stability tests. I will never decline a robot due to this without notifying you of the problem to ensure it will be fair; however if anyone complains that a bot shouldn't have gotten past it, they are at risk for a disqualification.
- Walkers and Shufflers will gain a 400kg weight bonus, but at least 300kg must be used on the movement system.
- Matches are 4 minutes long, aside from the Grand Final which will be 2 minutes long
- No custom components
- 1st havok, restart; 2nd havok, your bot is eliminated
- No custom armour
- No Trov Glitching, Hax Mode, or any other unrealistic glitches that enable an advantage.
- Multibots are allowed.
- No titanium sheets attached directly to baseplate (Including half-sheets)
- If a bot is out of control for 30 seconds it is eliminated (if a bot is just randomly bouncing around the arena, in counts as being out of control).
- You have an unlimited amount of upgrades. This means you can send a new robot too, however this all has to happen before signups are closed.
- M.O.E Motor & Judge Bursts are allowed
- Emergency flippers will have a 50% HP boost
- Interchangeable weaponry allowed
-

Format
Each category (USA, Britain, Other) Will have 2 four-way melees. The winners of these fights will be guaranteed a spot in the quarter-finals.

After this, there will be a 3 day vote on which two losers will also be pushed through to the quarter-finals. Incase of three or four way tie, there will be another melee in which the top 2 performing bots will be pushed through. In case of 5 or more way tie, the poll will be reset.

From there it will be a standard single elimination bracket.

Arenas
British Qualifying Arena: Wham's RW Arena
American Qualifying Arena: Battlebox 3.0 Containment Cube
Other Qualifying Arena: Combat Arena (heavily increased hazard damage)
Post-Qualifying Arena: BBEANS 2 Arena (no hazards)

Judging
British Qualifying Judging: Damage /20, Aggression /15, Control /10, Style /5
American Qualifying Judging: Damage /15, Aggression /15, Strategy /15, Style /5
Other Qualifying Judging: Weapon Damage /20, Hazard Damage /20, Control /10
Post-Qualifying Judging: Damage /10, Aggression /10, Control /10, Strategy /10, Style /10

Given that helloface put IRL in bold, and that replica robots are involved, I would assume so.

I'm not sure it should be called the World Championships but yeah. World Championships to me would encompass all types of building and have unlimited entries.

Do the replicas have to be from your home country?  Can I enter a replica but not a serious robot?

Ah, thanks for spotting a loophole. No the replica does not have to be from your home country, and yes you can build a replica but not a main entry.

Long as I can use MOE motors, I'm definitely in.
I will add a list of allowed cheatbot components; including MOE motor  :)

Since I'm crap at building robots in Dsl 2.1, I'm gonna build something like nemisis from robot wars xD

Start up a showcase, then people can help you improve :)

Also Helloface, remember we use the polls now rather than greenticks generally

In this tournament, you must represent your own country and put its flag on your robot (there are a few flag packs in the downloads area).
So, basically, its mostly going to be USA vs UK.

Edit: No heavy plows? (http://i.imgur.com/jJdwQ8t.png)

Yeah,  I just didn't want stupid things like Uganda becoming the world champion of robotics.

A deadline will be started once this goes to signups.

He is not, however there's hardly bureaucracy these days. All that is necessary is half the signup list (in this case, 12) absolute positive 'Yes' votes in the poll :)

In addition to my old Tough As Nails rep, I've just showcased Humdrum, just finished building 3 Stegs To Heaven, and am now browsing Robot Wars Wiki for more to do....

I'm not Helloface but from a logical perspective, yes: It says in the rules, even us English have to add the Union Flag as well as St George's Cross, so you would have to have the Union Flag and St Patrick's Saltire, I would guess. Just hide the UF under a panel or underneath if it bothers you that much?

Someone should make a smaller steering unit. Or shrink the current one.

Would be able to push out a few more reps.

You man enter as many replicas as you would like. You can have your main robot as a replica of your choice, or if you want to leave the signup space to someone else you can enter replicas without a main robot.

Thinking of entering but do I have to have the Union Jack on my bot considering I'm Northern Irish? Think carefully how you answer this one Helloface.
If you can explain to me in a pm why N. Ireland isn't part of Britain, then sure.

And remember, you may want to wait before you start making British or American replicas since those categories may be filled up with entries quickly.

On that note, signups will soon be started.

If i were you i would do judge decision if time runs out, cause i got a flipper thhis is fast pushy, and would definitively win a lot of them, it will be fair also if the people that enter the other category enters flippers, consedering that there is no OOTA capability in the Combat Zone.

Nobody uses those parts anyways, but if you really want to, then sure I'll do it in a bit.

"Northern Ireland is a part of the United Kingdom"
All I needed to hear. Please put the Union Jack on it, it's really not a big deal.

I submitted the 12th vote :3

- No custom components
- 1st havok, restart; 2nd havok, your bot is eliminated
- No custom armour
- No Trov Glitching, Hax Mode, or any other unrealistic glitches that enable an advantage.
- Multibots are allowed.

Nah, I agree. The more I think about it, it really is an incredibly dumb rule.

I know, AI works fine aside from sluggishness.

What do you mean by this? Are the people that complain at risk, or are the robots that are complained about at risk? I'd like some clarification before I go build.

Also, what exactly constitutes a stability test?

I like to play around with bots after AIing with them. If they bounce around out of control after a couple hits too much or havok a lot, I will further test that robot and it will be declined until the bot is fixed or replaced.

As for the disqualification, the people who complain about the robots are at risk.

EDIT: On that note, all bots are AI'd.

If we run out of US spots, can I take an "extra" slot?  There's probably some Dutch blood in me if I dig far back enough.  Also because it's getting hard to find an Extreme Warriors bot that I can do with a regressed set of tools (since I'm so used to DSL3 now.)
