Tournament Rules
1. The tourney has a Robotica-ish Bracket, 4 bots in each heat.
2. Two bots start off in the King of the Hill match (1:00 minute match) in the Hill Top Arena. The goal here is to get more points than your opponent.
3. The second part of the heat is going to be in the Clawtop Arena with the hazards OFF. Here I'm going to make a pushbot (it ain't going to be a hard to beat bot) and the 2 bots will be a team against the pushbot, the goal here is to get the most points in the battle by damaging the bot (pretty much a 2 vs 1 match). The amount of points you get will be added to the points you've obtained in the King of The Hill match (this part is also gonna be 1:00) the bot with the most points makes it to the heat final (if there's a tie, both bots will go to the heat final). If you destroy the trialbot, the decision will still depend on points. One more thing, If you fall off the platform, you will be automatically eliminated. And if you destroy the trialbot, you automatically go to the finals.
4. Then the heat will end up with 2 bots, those 2 will fight it out in the fight to the finish arena (I found it here a while ago) and here's how it works; two bots start high above on the platform and they will fight it out for 3 minutes and the bot that gets destroyed, immobilized, or pushed out will be eliminated and the winner will go to the finals.
Rules:
1. DSL Middleweight
2. Realistic Rule Applies.
3. No cheatbot2 or custom components.
4. No SnSs (won't do good in the KoTH part anyways).
5. No crawlers.
6. Please AI your own bots, if you cant then I will AI the bots (if anyone's willing to help me with AIing, that would be awsome).
7.NO WHINING ABOUT THE BOT AI BEING SCREWY UNLESS THERE IS BELIEVABLE EVIDENCE AND NOT SOMETHING STUPID (I think we all know why this rule was added).
8. Multibots are NOT allowed (due to the fact that if there's a tie).
9. No havok prone bots.
10. No AAM or BFE.
11. No flamethrowers.
12. Only bot types allowed are Horizontal Spinners, Rammers, Face Spinners, Axes, Drums, Pokers, and Lifters (NOT FLIPPERS).
The idea of this tourney is to get builders thinking about what kind of bot would perfect for this tourney and has a chance to win.
Also, a prize is being planned, so it might take a while to get the prize planned out (big thanks to JoeBlo for helping me with this) but I'll do my best to make sure there will be some sort of prize for the winner.

Wow! This sounds awesome! I must start building today.
-
(I know,it sucks)
:O someone get that man some candy..... oh wait ? :P why didnt you mention a lack of a logo in your pm buddy?
-
didn't wanna ask for much :embarr
tho if you can help out a bit with that too I'd also appreciate it.
-
done (in the first post ;) )
-
thanks alot! =D
by the way, I'm planning on starting signups sometime soon (maybe on wednesday) IF I get the approval to start this.
-
I`m very interested in this.
-
Hmmmm.... I like this.
-
Hey cool !
It's going to be a flipper fest but i am in this.
-
so the bot with the greatest pushing power wins?
-
Not necessarily. A NPC-Techno bot might as well end OOTA quickly.
-
I forgot to mention, I'm planning on getting 8 or 16 competitors for this.
-
I like this idea a lot. In fact, I'll prototype tonight.
-
Everyone, meet Trialbot

This is what will be fighting in the tabletop arena (might take off the beater bars tho, don't want it to be really good)
-
Intersting, you should definetly ban flamethowers, its going to give a nice edge for others in King of the hill.
-
hmm good point, thanks for the tip.
-
DP!: I fail horribly, I forgot that the clawtop can't be used in a team fight >_<
anyone know how to make it so I can use it in a team match?...
-
Not while retaining the tabletop qualities, I don't think. I may be wrong. Let me look at the .py.
EDIT: I think it might work if you change the ['TABLETOP'] in the py to ['TABLETOP', 'TEAM MATCH'].
-
Yup, that worked. Thanks =D
aaanyways, I'm still working on when to begin signups, maybe tomorrow but I'm not sure yet.

nothing fancy with Tabletop arenas just have to set them in the right menu is all, as long as they have 4 start zones
-
Yup, pretty much just figured that out today lol.
-
A poker might be a good idea as well... Ill Omen 2 ?
-
Mighty fast turnaround on those signups. I'm not sure it's ready for approval yet.
Why don't you wait for a bit, see how much enthusiasm there is, whether there are any more rules issues that need to be worked out, and give people some time to work on their bots. A few days minimum. After that the signups should be ready for approval.
-
yah I regreted doing that a bit a while later. I'll see what happens after a few days (tho idk how many days for sure tho).
-
I like this idea. I'm in.
-
I have the perfect bot idea :idea2:
-
A rule was added for the tabletop match (its underlined)
-
This seems like a really good idea.
I'd suggest you put more restrictions on weapons, as the current rules permit people to enter a super-destructive spinner or something that wins all three events via KO.

and that leads to rule number 12.
-
so lifters are burstpiston powered?
I could enter with the winner of my tourney :P
-
So what is your definition of a lifter and a flipper.
-
In other words, something like the stock sentinel, good enough to lift a bot and flip it over, but not like Second Sentinel, that can flip a bot in the air and possibly make it fly higher than Sky High.
-
What do you get if you push the pushbot or your partner off in the second challenge?
Also I'm a little worried that the format still rewards destructive robots too much. The maximum you can get from King of The Hill is 1800 points, but you can earn exponentially more in the second challenge. Even with the weapon restrictions, a well-built DSL bots can score really high, to the point where the King of The Hill challenge is negligible.
Perhaps you could take the King of the Hill score and multiply it by 400? That way, a bot could score up to 24,000 points; an effective balancing measure against Robot Arena 2's selective scoring system.

If your partner falls off, the partner is eliminated, if the bot is pushed out, it'll still depend on points cause if not, the whole points thing will have no use.

1. This is why the KoTH match is only 1 minute. And so is the tabletop.
2. Well the point is to make a really good bot and win.

DP
Updated the rules for the tabletop tournament, any doubts just post here.
-
What if one robot gets immobilized in KOTH? Does the other robot get some extra points? Because hypothetically, I could build a dragging wedge that beaches itself on the ramp since my opponent can no longer score points after Cease is called. That way, if I'm not confident I can win at KOTH, I can at least limit my opponent's point adavantage.
PS, I'm sorry if I'm being difficult, I just want to make sure I know exactly which Robotoica Replica what kind of bot to build.
-
hmm,good question
define dragging wedge plz.

It doesn't have to be a dragging wedge per se, anything with a really really low ground clearance would have the effect.
-
You mean intentionally immobilize yourself to limit your opponents chances of getting lots of points in the KoTH? If so, its a very strategic, but a rather risky move imo.

The problem is that the scoring system is way off-balance. You can only get a maximum of 600 points in KOTH, whereas you can earn tens of thousands in the Clawtop challenge. What would your priority be?
-
Well, after the tabletop challenge, I'm going to sum up the points from the tabletop with the points from the KoTH challenge. Both of these events are only a minute long so in the KoTH, not many bots are going to score over 1000 points. And in the tabletop they'll be trying to destroy the trialbot (see 1st page to see it if you'd like to see it) and that's also a minute long.
-
hmm.
I would like to enter.
