Just what Jaws Of Defeat Funsize was designed to fight...

Looks like a pretty good selection of bots. =] Predictions time.

n00b: Actually doesn't look too bad. Exposed weak motor is a bit of a worry, but I think it'll certainly do alright in the Damage The Trialbot round.
TesseracT II: It's very well built, but I forget how many HP the motor on the front has. I think it could be a dark horse.
Mr Flibble: Looks damaging enough with a Perm on a BW, though it may end up becoming unstable a bit too easily.
Micro Mako: What is this, MMR all over again? Should be damaging, certainly, but unlike an HS, I think will do well in the FttF as well.
Puncture III: Yes, it is MMR all over again. Basically Puncture II with more weaponry. Damaging, fast, agile and surprisingly defensive as well,. Even with Plastic 1 armour, I think I'll do well here.
Snakehead: Slightly odd extender setup at the back. But I think the weaponry will be alright. Depends what armour it has, maybe.
Micro M.A.D. 3: It's just a wall, but it's not a very good one. It's not invertible, the extenders are hideously exposed...I can't see this going far.
EENH 4.5: Similar to Puncture III, but with more weapons and slower drive. More a wall than a rammer, I think, but it should do pretty well.
Parfumerie 2: Looks deadly at first glance. However, the CF extenders look far too fragile for me, and its wide stance could let it down in the FttF (Think Groundhog in RW Series 2).
Cape Stag Beetle: VERY strange wheel attachment. But doesn't look terribly bad, I think. Could see a couple of upsets.
Devour: Hammer? If so, it could fare very well with the multitude of rammers, and even the mini FG. I'm still slightly unsure of it, but it could be one to watch.
Enturon II: Nice weapon attachment. Very well built, it should do quite well, I think.
Plastic Smelter: I'm slightly concerned about the stability for some reason, and if it's properly invertible. But I think it's a good built, and I'm hoping it does well.
Jaws Of Defeat Funsize: Another proper rammer instead of a wall. I do like the looks of this, it's definitely one to keep an eye on.
Incompetence: Interesting build. It actually looks like it could do well, but I think it'll fall down in the FttF. Not stable enough, I reckon.
Dimwitted Background Pony 4: Sledgepuncture. It's a wall, but it's also quite fast. I think this will do very well, personally. So long as its wheels or extenders don't get taken off.

Final Four: Jaws Of Defeat Funsize, Snakehead, Incompetence (Lucky draw), Micro Mako

Predikshions

n00b: Seems damaging, but the exposed motor could let it down.
TesseracT II: Not sure about this one. would be a pain to fight (i would imagine) but i don't like asymmetrical robots :P
Mr Flibble: Interesting design with the perm but the extenders might let it down.
Micro Mako: Weapons might be brittle and not have enough reach. Otherwise it could do well.
Puncture III: Very good rammer, could go far.
Snakehead: More of a wall than a rammer, does have a lot of (brittle) weapons so it could go far also.
Micro M.A.D. 3: Oh dear. Not great weapon choice plus i don't think it i invertible. I'd say this is the SFTW.
Meeee: Obv winner by a mile More a wall but does have quite a few weapons. The chassis might be a problem though.
Parfumerie 2: Good design, apart from the wide stance which could be a problem. Also the extenders are weak.
Cape Stag Beetle: It... has a long chassis? Not too sure about self-righting and it doesn't have many weapons. But it does have a good wedge.
Devour: Is that a pop-up or hammer or whut. Looks unrealistic but could do well.
Enturon II: Not a ss :o  It looks like a nice wall/rammer but with better extenders (and not so many weapons). Might get outweaponed but otherwise it should do pretty well.
Plastic Smelter: I doubt this will go far. Could easily get putweaponed and has very exposed motors. But it has a wedge (which some others don't).
Jaws Of Defeat Funsize: very good rammer but might get outweaponed.
Incompetence: good VS, can it self-right?
Dimwitted Background Pony 4: Seems a nice rammer with good weapons but i fear for the wheels. Otherwise might go fairly far.

I think that either JODF, DBP4 or Puncture III might win this.

what's the name of the song you used in the splash vid?

Also, like 5 entries are from MMR :P

"Rhythm and Balance" from Sonic Adventure 2 (used in the level "White Jungle"). Also used it in the second trials splash.

I also noticed that.

I'm stuck here, it only havoks in some arenas but not all of them.

EDIT - The rules say no havok prone bots, so I might have to disqualify it.

Either use the fix or swap arenas (with permission)
Title: Re: RA2 Trials Series 3 Brackets, Videos, and Predictions
Post by: Vertigo on June 07, 2011, 01:40:01 PM
It may be because you don't have the skirt hinge fix

But it says DSL in the rules, so you you can't use it...
Title: Re: RA2 Trials Series 3 Brackets, Videos, and Predictions
Post by: NFX on June 07, 2011, 01:41:26 PM
I don't see why he couldn't. It doesn't change the basics of the game in any way, it just prevents the use of Narmour.

And it's probably the motor/wheel combination, anyhow. If you try reducing the turn and turnspeed, that could probably stop it.

Post by: S.T.C. on June 07, 2011, 01:49:40 PM
@ty4er - Bad idea, no offense, but the chosen arenas are part of the rules.

@Vertigo - Yup can't use it.

@NFX - Tried it, failed.

Title: Re: RA2 Trials Series 3 Brackets, Videos, and Predictions
Post by: S.T.C. on June 07, 2011, 01:51:55 PM
Everytime it tries to move, it only lags on the KoTH arenas. I've tried it in other arenas and it works fine.
Title: Re: RA2 Trials Series 3 Brackets, Videos, and Predictions
Post by: SKBT on June 07, 2011, 04:13:49 PM
Whats up with Jaws of Defeat's and havoking lately? First Jaws of Defeat in Tag Team Tussle and now Jaws of Defeat Funsize in RA2 Trials. :P

JODF doesn't havok on my computer. I tried it in the KOTH arena and in a random assortment of others before I sent.

Edit: Did I also forget to send an AI line for JODF?

On the whole Jaws problem, you MIGHT be able to take a poll and see if anyone is against the skirt hinge fix. I certainly wouldn't be if it means preventing a disqualification.
Title: Re: RA2 Trials Series 3 Brackets, Videos, and Predictions
Post by: NFX on June 07, 2011, 05:13:42 PM
I'm certainly not against it. I can't see how it would drastically affect any of the entrants thus far, aside from SKBT's jaws actually working.
Title: Re: RA2 Trials Series 3 Brackets, Videos, and Predictions
Post by: S.T.C. on June 07, 2011, 05:28:24 PM
I tried the skirt hinge fix to see what happens and it still havoks.

and yes you did SKBT.

Incompetence: Interesting build. It actually looks like it could do well, but I think it'll fall down in the FttF. Not stable enough, I reckon.
Incompetence: good VS, can it self-right?

It can self right, and is quite stable. Only problem is that it is a little slow.

FINAL 4:

Jaws of Defeat Funsize, Puncture III, Incompetence, Micro Mako
Title: Re: RA2 Trials Series 3 Brackets, Videos, and Predictions
Post by: NFX on June 07, 2011, 06:43:20 PM
JODF's position in the final four depends entirely on whether the havok gets fixed. If it doesn't, it could throw the whole tournament up in the air. I don't have any doubt that it won't be, though, it is simple enough to do. =]

I just had an idea. Could I re-make JODF with a larger chassis and see if that works? I've got 4 kg to play with so I know the chassis can be a lot bigger.

If there's no real change to the function/effectiveness of the drive/weapon outside of removing havoc issues, I don't think it's a problem

I don't see how so...

This is a case of a flaw in the game causing problems with the bot, it's not a flaw with the bot, and therefore it's not really fair that SKBT be punished for it.

Besides, I can't see this being abused, i'm sure the host would quickly realise any changes to the bot other than a slightly larger chassis, and in turn disallow them from using the edited bot.

I can't see how this system is open to abuse, in all honesty. If the bot is received, then that means the entrant was happy enough for it to take part. If the only problem is havoking in a certain manner, and it's been established that the problem is the size of the chassis, then they should be allowed to use what weight they have left to enlarge the chassis only. All the other components must remain the same, I think that's a pretty fair ruling on it.

well I was late to read this but 2 things could have been tried

1) Re-import/ export the robot in the game that the robot is havoking in

2) Remove the wheels and re-place them in the game that the robot is havoking in (also try rotating the wheels before attaching)

but to late now..

Seems really dodgy though.. clean game?

I remember my robots always acted really odd in Badniks tournaments (Revolutionist and Tentomushi) but no cause was ever looked into..

I've just hit another issue, it appears that Squirrel_Monkey's bot goes through the floor in the Small Arena. I'll PM him the situation and give him the same option SKBT had, to modify his bot to fix the problem without removing or adding components.

EDIT - S_M gave me a better idea, anyone know how to raise the start point of the arena?

I imagine it's the extender work giving SM's machine problems. It would work if the chassis was lower down, but then that would defeat the purpose of the bot.

Serge's arena Decompiler? If it isn't in the Downloads thing on the Front Page, then you could search in the Robot Arena 2 forums for it.

The decompiler doesn't work on my laptop, it said I need to install msvcr100, I did and it still says I need the file.

Get a SZ and stick it significantly below all of SM's components.. this should cause the game to drop it higher..

Otherwise I will make a second arena GMF, one with a raised point and one with normal points.. the raised points might effect other robots which you dont want..

Also I strongly suggest in future you test all robots in the actual arena's your using when you first AI them to avoid these kind of issues..

Okay, so how do I compile the file?

Can you be more specific?  What have you done so far and what do you need to compile?

I used Serge's decompiler to modify the starting points on the small arena, but idk how to compile the file.

I'm assuming followed this link:
http://code.google.com/p/gmftoolkit/downloads/list (http://code.google.com/p/gmftoolkit/downloads/list)

...and only downloaded the decompiler.  You need to download the compiler as well.  Can't have a Yin without a Yang

Nope, I used the one on the tools list here. The one Serge made.

I would just like to apologize for the delay in videos, I'm currently having some trouble with the small arena (as some of you know) and as soon as I finally fix the starting points, I will upload as many videos as I can again.

Again I would just like to apologize and I'm working on it, though help would be appreciated =) just sayin'.

It's my fault. Nothing I build fits in this arena. STC is currently asking for help to raise the start points. JB has offered but I'm not sure if STC has accepted the help.

I did, and it's more my fault for not testing it in the arena. I apologize for that again btw and I'll make sure this won't happen again.

Ah, so it's a four-way. Should make things more interesting. If two bots are eliminated, will there be a fight for 3rd place?

If there's a 2-way tie for last, both go out, a 3-way tie for last means the trial will restart.

Yeah. I did notice how myself, you and Vert all submitted the same bots (basically) from MMR. And now we're all in the final. It should be a good deal of fun.

Muchos gracias.

I think that's a good move, personally. It would stop cheap wins like that from happening where the bot that leaves the platform first isn't the robot that's eliminated first. How high would said walls be?

Still, one step up from last time, 4th, 3rd.... Can you do two more STC?

Funniest thing is, I originally built Micro Mako as a joke bot, never expecting it to do well in anything XD
