Well, it kind of is, as it doesn't come with stock.

That would be class to be in that. Like you could try to fight with your Pokebot.

So many 3 bar spinners and popups...

I would name my robot after my favorite pokemon Raichu.

Laaame.
I had this idea yesterday (for after I finish RIMP soon) and was gonna do it as a DSL HW tourney where you fight through a 'league' of 4 different pokemon-bots built by me, with 2 or 3 being eliminated each time (slowest time to kill pokebot or least points or least time survived etc) and then an all-out brawlfest at the end.
A plan which is infinitely cooler than restricted Stock MW single elimination.
AND JD and I had plans for a Pokemon Challenge.

Post by: Conraaa on June 13, 2011, 11:54:18 AM
I had a similar idea, but I was going to do just general good guys vs bad guys.
I wrote that idea off because I doubt people would actually make bots similar to the subject matter they were trying to encapsulate.
With this I have the feeling people would just make a 18hs, name it Snorlax and claim it's pokemon themed. Especially in the stock Mw class. That class seems to be popping up a bit. First Box of Nightmares, then Roboleague, now this.
However, to make this work, I would personally try this sort of idea in DSL and allow skinned components. You know, allow people to really go to town on their bots. So you may end up with something which looks like a Pokemon.
Title: Re: Pokemon Tourney.
Post by: cephalopod on June 13, 2011, 11:55:46 AM
That's what I thought (DSL/skinned components/Stock MW just meaning HS)
I think DSL... I mean, Dugtrio looks pretty sexy, you couldn't make anything LIKE that in Stock.

I can see it now...
So many 3 bar spinners and popups...
Just re-color an  existing 3-bar-spinner and say its Vileplume
?????
Profit

Exactly why I think they should look a lot like the Pokemon, and so need flexibility, and so need DSL. Anyone got my point yet? ;)

Lots of things to point out:

 - You already have a tournament in discussion.

 - You're restricting a lot of bot types. Why?

 - Everyone is going to unleash a cheaty cheatbot since you're allowing all cheat parts except hovercraft.

 - Everything else.

I'm going to be brutally honest, when I saw this thread I was really intrigued and excited at the prospect... until I saw who was hosting.

I'll enter if we can get a host who's shrewd enough to figure out a way to ensure that the bots are truly Pokemon themed, not just accept anything with Pokemon decals slapped on it.

If you're wondering "how shrewd is shrewd enough?"  well, they have to at least know that a cat's name should contain vowels.

If anything, the bots should be limited to looking like the pokemon, and performing one of the pokemon's physical attacks. You would have to pick a pokemon, and to be fair, request a move from the host to see if it is suitable. No swords dance HS here thankyou very much.

This is Stock LW (I decided this because the Japanese like them). Anyway, I just lol'd at something: some of the BBEANS bots fit the criteria: Pillar of Fire, Darkblade 1.0 and 3.14 Ston and Box of Grime.

Hardbot, I don't think you have enough skills or respect needed to run a tournament at the moment. Try focusing on improving you bot building skill first.

On a serious note, I'd be willing to take the reins of this tournament; I'm just about done with my own series and have nothing to do.  Would people actually be interested in this if I posted a new thread right now?

You have to rethink the rules, listen to what other people have said in here, and fix the rules accordingly, if you do that this MAY become a decent idea.

It should probably be less serious too, not like moaning about bot types, I mean who says it has to be battle-effective? I'd prefer to see a nicely crafted, weaponless Porygon or something than a cheap Staryu SNS.

In a sense.  I took each of the 17 Pokemon types and decided on 4 robots to represent each type.  The only ones that really could be passed off as Pokemon were Pika 2 and Lethal Swan.

Custom by definition is anything that doesn't come with stock

So only Chopper, Flipper, LittleMetalFriend, Poker, Pusher, Rammer, Simple Weapon, Spinner and Whipper python files can be used..

Unless Hardbot would like to reword it..

I think you need DSL or custom components to be able to make decent Pokemon reps. I mean, what Pokemon have you seen that look exactly like a chassis you can build or have red/black extenders XD
