Title: Not Quite Replica Wars
Post by: Squirrel_Monkey on June 03, 2011, 10:32:50 AM
*Insert cool logo here*

Rules:
DSL MW (No multibots)
Replica Wars arena skinned (If Badnik gives permission) otherwise RA2 tourney arena skinned with no hazards.
16 bots
Single elimination, alternative choice brackets (I'll explain later)
Entrants choose and reserve a DSL replica of a real life bot and then make a replica using ONLY the parts found in that replica and only up to 3 times the amount of them. e.g. use of BOB only allows 3 flamethrowers. Multi extenders (only as base extenders) and ant batteries may also be used. Reservations only last 24 hours from posting your reservation (so only choose just before you build).
Standard 1 on 1 best of 3, 3min matches.
No AAM/BFE/Outside modification except skinning.
AMENDMENT: BFE may be used ONLY to attach components that may only be attached by BFE such as the Thermidor wheel or Nightmare's Disc. This is at my discretion and so must be requested.
Realistic (Usual stuff) but all in-game glitches allowed within realism.
Once sent, you can change which replica you use but only once. Minor updates within the same replica are infinite.
One free havok restart per match, any more results in disqualification.
I can AI but for best results, please AI yourself. (I'm not going to spend ages optimising AI for each entry)

Signups close when I get all entries or on the 3rd of July.

Alternative choice brackets: Each entrant ranks the other competitors in order of how much they would like to face them. I use this information to rank the bots. The lowest ranked bot gets its first choice of opponent, the next lowest gets its first possible choice in its list. etc. etc.... This gives more evenly matched battles. If not a full bracket, the lowest ranked bots get the byes.

Entrants:
1. Squirrel_Monkey (T-Minus)
2. MikeNCR (M.O.E)
3. G.K. (Growler)
4. freeziez (Killdozer)

13. That Robot is a Spy! (Supernova)
14. xanoz (Techno Destructo)

only up to 3 times the amount of them.

You must mean 3x whatever amount is on the actual robot right? not 3 of each part

because you used 4 T-Minus wheels and wheel guards

I'm not gonna call. I'm pro like that. :3

Also, I just had a thought, why aren't CB's allowed in with ants and multis?

Sorry didn't make that clear.

@G.K. Nope, all replicas have a decent CB and I felt there would be no problems.

Mike's bot received.

I love some of the comments Click made on components, I'd totally forgotten about them.

Example, on Ruiner Blade End: "It's the same as a 20 to 40 DSL bar, just looks more differenter.  So once again there's no point to using it.  The name sounds sorta like Bag End though... WHAT?!?! YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT BAG END IS?? IT'S BILBO BAGGINS' HOBBIT HOLE IN THE LORD OF THE RINGS, CLAM!!"

Must the bot really be like the original bot or are we allowed to build something a bit different ?

'Cause IDK if I can get SwitchDirOmni to work, and 6WD on a MW is really pushing it.

Not complaining.

You should see growler's. And his head's DP values are psycho. 7.9 concussion and 7.4 piercing.

I was going to use growler but getting 2 bodies + heads + jaw mechanisms all in a MW seemed too much like hard work.
Now you've told me those DP values I wish I tried a bit harder.

Erm... didn't notice that.
Technically I can't change the rules so no BFE. I might be able to change that little bit to "no BFE except to attach unattachable components that need BFE to attach" if JB allowes.

If anyone wants to go at Mechavore, good luck. The big frame is just a solid block, and most likely will require some BFEing, or creative component placement.

Can I make something clear. Use ONLY the components found on your chosen bot + ant batteries and multi's attached to the baseplate (and a CB in some cases). Many of you are using things such as 20cm extenders and anglers when they are NOT permitted. Please make sure your bot conforms BEFORE sending to me. Also, check if it fits in the arena.

After building my bot... I can say it was a lot harder than I thought it would be.  It is a bit challenging.

Guess we got to harass some of the new members... What happened to that Wolf dude that joined when all the other tourneys filled up? I forget his name.

Well, I have started building but I can't find all of the useful Minion components on the cheatbot2 list. Notably the weapon motor.

I have my bets the ghost angle txt file is in Components.cfz.

Yeah, some components are completely hidden, such as the stock CB. You can just make then unhidden though.

Yes, you can. Only if they are found in the replica of your choice. Just read the rules.

And c'mon guys, I only need two more entries. Nary said he would build (well we all know he's too lazy) and a few of you reserved bots but never did anything. I'm sure many are eager for this to get started.

Well I can't show it because signups aren't closed.

Title: Re: Not Quite Replica Wars
Post by: Conraaa on June 29, 2011, 02:54:35 PM
On the bright side you have the right number of valid robots for a 12 bot bracket.
I'm surprised that more people haven't built for this aswell. It's not like it's a bad idea. It's probably because all the obvious bots have been used already.
Title: Re: Not Quite Replica Wars
Post by: Jack Daniels on June 30, 2011, 04:18:03 AM
Soooooo. What is wrong with Hard Bot's entry anyways?

If he is not responding, perhaps someone could fix his bot for him instead?  I think he would prefer that vs getting booted out altogether.

Personally, I think many are too lazy to figure out which bots are listed in the DSL folder to find out the components they have available.  That step is rather time consuming.  Don't know how to fix that though...

Hope you get more entries.
Title: Re: Not Quite Replica Wars
Post by: Squirrel_Monkey on June 30, 2011, 04:31:46 AM
His bot is unrealistic (badly) and uses illegal parts.
I can't really have more than 2 byes.
Title: Re: Not Quite Replica Wars
Post by: Conraaa on June 30, 2011, 04:33:55 AM
If you extended the deadline a bit you'd have time to put up a list of replicas with useable parts to save people from looking at them all to find good ones. I'd be willing to help on looking through them all.
Title: Re: Not Quite Replica Wars
Post by: Squirrel_Monkey on June 30, 2011, 04:36:03 AM
The problem is no-one seems at all interested.
Title: Re: Not Quite Replica Wars
Post by: Conraaa on June 30, 2011, 04:38:15 AM
Which is a shame, it's not like it's a bad idea with an incompetent host or anything.
But I think if you listed most/all the good reps to use and pmbomb'd anyone who has shown interest/reserved a bot you might be able to get some more bots in it.
Title: Re: Not Quite Replica Wars
Post by: Squirrel_Monkey on June 30, 2011, 04:39:06 AM
Well, I you could have a go at that then I may extend the deadline if more people say they will build.

Title: Re: Not Quite Replica Wars
Post by: Squirrel_Monkey on July 01, 2011, 05:40:02 AM
SKBT reserved a bot, 2 hours later xanoz sends me a bot based off Techno Destructo. So SKBT has to send his bot within the 24 hours of xanoz gets his place.

Or I could just let them bot use the same bot...

Title: Re: Not Quite Replica Wars
Post by: Squirrel_Monkey on July 02, 2011, 05:28:54 AM
OK, 16 bots have been recieved.
I need to AI 3 or 4 more.
Scrap needs to BFE correct wheels on his bot.
Hard Bot needs to fix realism issues.
Effectively we have space for 2 more entries until the problem bots are fixed (whichever is first)
Splash is 80% done.

Also, who wants a Battlebots/Robot Wars rumbles at the end for the respective best bots in the respetive arenas? i.e. Top 4 non finalists from each competition go into their own rumbles? (Does any Battlebots arena accept 4 bots)?
Title: Re: Not Quite Replica Wars

OK, signups should close today but I will extend it for 2 days. I really hope someone can help Scrap with his BFE problems (no he can't use HAX mode) and I've given up on Hard Bot so there is still a place left.
