Title: Not Just Another DSL 2.2 IRL Tournament [Inactive]
Post by: -iKa- on November 18, 2016, 09:55:59 PM
(https://puu.sh/sn4tB/fc0d997776.png)

cue "another DSL 2.2 IRL tournament? really?"

I apologize for all of the typos and general errors I made while making this. Note to self: don't write up tournaments while you're exhausted.

So I was thinking of how to make a truly interesting tournament the other day, because most tournaments these days tend to fall into flipper-dominated tournaments with a nice little side of Horizontal or Vertical Spinners. So I thought, hey, why not encourage creativity with a nice little DSL 2.2 IRL tournament because those haven't been saturated to all sh** yet. (In case you couldn't tell that's a wonderful little thing called sarcasm)

BUILDING RULES:
DSL 2.2 IRL with DSC's IRL Packs
Weight Limit: CruiserWeight (399 - 600kg)

The following types of bots are allowed:
Ring/Shell Spinners (that aren't built with standard DSL discs)
Anything that functions off of turrets
Unconventional Flippers (i/e no Apollo-style flippers)
SnS/ MeltyBrains
Multibots (That conform to the other rules)
Creative variations on conventional bots (i.e. some sort of odd variation on Tombstone would be allowed, but just straight up Tombstone wouldn't)
Lifters(Not flippers, proper lifters)
Swiss Army Bots (all of the weapons must apply to the other rules as well.)
Hybrids

CF can be used as much as you want, so long as it's still more or less IRL (i.e. no batteries within batteries)
(EDIT: after looking at 090901's new DSL showcase, nothing too ridiculous like sticking your robot controller on the top of your bot.)

All bots will be put through inspection to see if they qualify.

I can't AI that well, so I'd highly recommend you do your own AI for this, but if it's needed I can AI.

TOURNAMENT SYSTEM:
The Arena will be a modified DSL Tournament Arena, with custom textures, Hazards enabled

In the following order of amount of entries:
8 entries;
12 entries  -- 2 wildcards;
16 entries;
EDIT: After further inspection of the rules, I've realized that because this is my first tournament I'm not allowed more than 16 entries.

All fights are 1v1, Havok results in a rematch.;

Each person may submit up to 2 bots.

SUBMISSIONS:

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.

Can't you just write which genres ARE banned?

I'm getting confused

Encouraging creativity and then banning almost every IRL class seems kinda counterintuitive tbh. You should probably more specific about whether things like shell and ring spinners are allowed as well since some might consider them to be horizontal spinners. Also SnS is a real life thing and should be allowed if you're encouraging creativity.

If you're wanting to encourage creativity, allow only a quota of different types and make it first come first served, or by application? Banning all those types is gonna make for a more boring tournament to be honest, you've lost almost all spinning weapons. You've got claws and axes, basically.
Also you said none of the following types are banned which would suggest they're allowed.

We've got lots of other stuff running too.
Also, be the change you want to see. Want more of something? Run it!

To be honest, I do not know the weight limit.

So I will assume CW, and I have made a bot for it.  I Love Loopholes.

None of the following types of weapons (save for variations) are banned.
Don't you mean "None of the following types of weapons are allowed"? Also you haven't specified the weight limit, as far as I can see. If it's HW, I have something pretty neat lined up; if not, I'll have to rustle something up.

Okay, so after editing it a bit to make everything a bit clearer, does it actually seem interesting to anyone?

Right now you've cleared things up Im entering. Also are swiss army robots allowed?

It does sound good, and I definitely intend to enter this, but I still have a couple of questions:

I might be being a little pedantic here, but I'm the kind of person who gets his dick caught in the proverbial ceiling fan if the instructions aren't clear enough, so I want to try and avoid that.

Also are swiss army robots allowed?

Yes, I'll add it to the list with this: (All weapons must conform to the other rules)
  • By "Chimeras", do you mean bots with multiple weapon types at once (e.g. Mortis, Splatter, the Series 7 Robochicken), or bots with interchangeable weapons?
  • Actually, what about axlebots, like the Robot Wars bot Chimera? Do they count as SnS?
  • What counts as an "unconventional flipper"? Since you specified "no Apollo-style flippers", does that mean front-hinged flippers are fine?
  • If ring and shell spinners are allowed, does that mean Son of Whyachi-style overhead hammer spinners are allowed as well?

I might be being a little pedantic here, but I'm the kind of person who gets his dick caught in the proverbial ceiling fan if the instructions aren't clear enough, so I want to try and avoid that.

so your wording is fantastic, just wanted to tell you that.

a)Multiple Weapons being used at once, and they don't need to conform to standard ruleset, so long as they're all accessible and able to hit the other opponent.
b)Yes, it'll be added to the list.
c)Front-Hinged flippers are not banned.
d)No, Son of Whyachi-Style Hammer Spinners are not allowed, they would probably overpower the competition.
Okay, so after editing it a bit to make everything a bit clearer, does it actually seem interesting to anyone?

Is a bot like a blade like Ghost Raptor Allowed?

If it's attached via servo and is able to change angle (like Ghost Raptor), then yes.

You'd probably be better understood if you said Mortis, instead of Chimera. Also, that's a pretty big lists of bot types that are allowed. Isn't it just easier to name the bot types which aren't?

If you just want to host a tournament in which people enter unique designs or designs which aren't seen too often, then you are allowed to state, in the rules, that you can reject any entry you like, if you think it's too generic or is pushing the IRL boundary, and ask people to not be pedantic dickheads by trying to argue that their Last Rites rip-off is unique because subjectivity or something. You don't have to go through the process of white-listing and detailing every single bot type that you'd allow just so unfair ones don't slip through the cracks.

Front-hinged flippers are legal, eh?

Well, I know what I'm building, then. Thanks for clearing all that up for me

What about Echo? It's attached via a hinge

Yes, the question is, does it havok a lot? Because I don't wanna have to deal with a million havoks, there'll be enough of those in this tournament anyways.

tbh if you are looking for more oddball bots or w/e you shouldn't allow shell spinners made using the DSL discs since they literally all look the same

honestly haven't built many shell spinners myself so thanks for the info, I've added it to the rules.

Yeah, I mean there's not really much you can do with the shell spinner parts to make 'em look unique, it's mostly just "flat sides or angled sides" and then maybe a little decoration on top. I hope DSC puts coloured spinner shells in one of his IRL packs.

Well as weight-inefficient as it would be, you could use extenders, I think that would work relatively well.

do i see irl hybrids allowed ?

fyi, an hybrid is a bot that has two very differently working weapons, aka, two bot types in the same bot.
